Thread: Free JTL coming up
Well I'm unsure how i fell about this ..i dont think many new players will treat space with the respect she deserves....she is a harsh mistress !
Recently me and anothet lvl 80 Vet decided to finally tackle space as we had been stuck at lvl 2222 for a long time ....we felt we had mastered most of what the ground had to offer.
After dying more times than i care to meantion...We finally made master pilots a little more than a week ago...and I have since completed the mining ship quest ! w00t for me ![]()
Now if they can just make the YT-2400 quest do able
( a recent group of mostly jedi all dies there, damn factory guardian )

Erm, Tomo just accused us of inbreeding....yikes!
Other than my initial grumyness, which has mostly passed (NGE still irking me), do you really think giving it for free with bring in that many new folks? Remember RotW brought new pilots becuase they either just bought the game or had to fly for a mission. My money would be that most long term vets already have it for the instant travel feature. We shall see though.
Like I said, I just hope it isn't a cheap way to fix space. What? Pilots need something? But we gave everyone free JTL, there should be lots of people in space now.
No, no, no Nes, you are looking at it all wrong! This a good thing, maybe even a great thing.
Sure, at first there may be a bunch of nooblets we have to deal with (though I'm not even sure about that, how many people really don't have JTL already that will of a sudden start flying a lot now?) but they will eventually turn into experienced pilots or be weeded out.
The realy important part of this announcement is that space and ground can be fully integrated now! Nobody has an excuse not to be able to get into space, so the devs can design with an integrated game in mind. If you've been on Testcenter yet, you know what I mean. The tutorial has you jumping into the falcon's turret and the beginning missions have you flying through space...just as a means of travel (cool!) I'm really looking forward to some of the things they will be able to do with more integrated gameplay, including an improved GCW.

Hrmmmm... Fresh Meat.
I wonder how fast I can drive the 1337 kiddies back into the ground. They'd be in for a rude awakening if they accept /duel in space and expect to P0WNZR as they do with their I R UBER template on the ground.
like i said to a friend who just got into space a while back when he was questioning the advice i gave him
"when 88 million prestige you reach, make the rules you can"

Some of the stuff on the Ord Mantell space station (newb area) requires some flying. Also, in the tutorial, you need to head into the turret of the Falcon and shoot down some TIEs. That in addition to having Shipwright be intertwined with Droid Engineer in the Engineering sub-class basically means you can't seperate ground from space anymore.
It's sort of like accepting that it's as intergral to the game as the ground is (and not this cheap attempt to keep the two seperate).
Unfortunately, SW is intertwined with Architect, and DE gets master artisan and 4404 weaponsmith. I'd be a lot happier if it was different, but I doubt it is going to be changed at this point in time. There's posts on how the skills break down in the NGE Trader section of the forums.

I doubt they'll make any serious changes to space. Additions, yes, but not changes.
Why?
Because most of what I've read indicates that the devs believe the gameplay in space is superior to the gameplay on the ground. They know with space they've already got a winning strategy--aside from some balance issues with the RotW ships, it's a pretty solid, well-thought out system.
Ground, on the other hand, has never been "right"...there's always been something seriously wrong. Composite armor, uber-but-neccessary buffs, too-slow combat, AFK macroed players, and so forth. Every change has been an attempt to fix the problems ground sees. So, when the devs decided to do a /lastditch to save the ground game, they decided to model it after space to a degree.
Will it work? I have no idea. I've enjoyed the gameplay on TC, although I know a lot of my guildmates aren't happy. It'll be interesting to see how this all pans out.

I'm not sure if there will be anything for me on the ground anymore...I'll wait and see how it plays out high lvl. Right now with all the neg posts i'm seeing though it looks like all I have left is space.
I would encourage you to give ground a chance. I've been playing on TC quite a bit and, at least on the lower levels, the new system is very enjoyable, at least to me. It's more twitch-based than it was before, although there's a lot more to it than a simple FPS. I know there's a lot of negative posts floating around, but there were about the original CU, too, and, while it wasn't as good as it could've been, it also wasn't theinstant deathblow of the game as some of the naysayers predicted.

So if you went Imp, which ship would you go with? Would we see the big bad Leaph in a JSF to complete your conversion to the madness of the Dark Side, or will you go even more hardcore in a TIE Interceptor?
