So YOU were that mysterous Y-Wing pilot that survived the Battle of Yavin? Where were you when Luke, Biggs and Wedge were flying down the trench, huh???

Additionally, to further split hairs, are TIE Interceptors pre-Hoth ships as well?

Both the A-wing and B-wing were in existence pre-Hoth; the A-wing, as near as the timeline can be constructed, would be between the prototype and manufacturing stage right now, as it was designed before the evacuation of Yavin. Project Shantipole, which spawned the B-wing, wouldn't quite be in operation yet, but would be completed long enough for B-wings to be deployed shortly before the Alliance established itself on Hoth.

A-wings were developed by the Alliance (am I right in saying it was Jan Dodonna who was one of the heads of the project?) shortly after the battle of Yavin. In fact, I think the designs were drawn up during the time they were on Yavin.
They were in service way before Endor, but although they were superior to TIE craft for speed and defences (they had shields etc.) they were extremely high maintenance and were almost impossible to keep a whole squadron of them running at any one time.

My favourite A-wing fact is that due to the lack of resources and in order to keep the craft as lightweight as possible, some A-wings, if not the majority of them had wood crafted instrument panels.

Actually that was because they were manufactured by hand and so each one was slightly different (like a space Aston Martinn), no doubt your has fijisi wood panels in it as it was constructed on Dantooine Leaph.Mine has a Krayt dragon hide seat.

Actually that was me! I was the one pilot who survived AND held off the battle stations ENTIRE TIE fighter complement allowing Luke Skywalker to attack the exhaust port with only 3 enemies attacking him.

I didnt get a medal either, and im no wookiee!

Leaph was the guard in tower who watched as we flew to battle, either that or he crammed into my storage compartment and hung out in the battle taking potshots at TIEs with his DL44.

The company FreiTek (they made the E-wing) wasn't formed until after Endor...but you can get their parts as loot now...must be prototypes right?

Im not saying that timelines shouldnn't mean squat - i am merely stating that they do mean squat.
If i had my way we'd have monthy event changes and timeline progression like Asheron's Call.

Hear Hear! I was pretty dissapointed when I came over to SWG from AC,
I thought it was the norm for MMOs to have monthy quest updates and timeline events.

Nah, I wouldn't be seen dead in a Y-wing .
During the battle of Yavin, I was down on the ground playing chess with my good friend Hobbie (who was combined to sickbay at the time) telling him it was all such an overreaction and that the bright eyed farmboy would simply use one of his Jedi 'I win buttons' to kill the Death Star .

Oh, and pirate trap....only his pirate trap was Han Solo and actually useful

I would tenatively say "yes." The TIE Interceptors were designed as the Imperial response to the X-wing, and were largely very well-matched against X-wings. If they were post-Hoth ships, they'd probably have been designed differently tobetter compete with the A-wing.However, if they are pre-Hoth, it begs the question: why weren't they available during the Hoth blockade? The Millennium Falcon is pursued by TIE line fighters and TIE bombers, but there's no appearance of the TIE Interceptor until the Endor battle.

Actually a very small number of A-wings took place in the battle of yavin.

Where were they? Was this a special edition add-in that I don't remember? Or is this an expanded universe thing?

I realize that from Vader's comment to his wingmen that there was a seperate battle between TIEs and X/Y-wings that we don't see (which the pilots making the trench run break off from toattack the Death Star). From this separate battle there is one apparent surivivor, the mystery Y-Wing pilot. This is assumed as theMillenium Falcon, two X-Wings (Luke and Wedge), and one Y-Wing return to Yavin.

No. A-wings weren't at the Battle of Yavin. They were brought into production shortly after. But they were there soon'ish like.

This is from Star Wars: Starships of the Galaxy...

"Following the Battle of Yavin, the Rebel Alliance designed a number of new starships. The A-Wing was a strike fighter, supposedly the fastest ship ever built, sacrificing firepower, shielding and staying power for pure speed. Limited funds required the A-Wing to be built from existing parts, but its brilliant design still managed to squeeze superb performance from components built for other purposes."

Take it as you will...to me it shows that yes this ship should not be around at this point. Not to say there aren't other timeline errors!
