Thread: ARC-170....is crap

i've never flown the ship but yeah it's definately centerfire.

the real question though is if the OP is one of those pilots who for the life of him cannot adjust reliably to the visual difference between the spread bolts and the center shot. i found that to be extremely difficult, while i know other pilots actually find it easier to hit (without even realizing it was centerfire). maybe i didn't spend enough time trying, but i really could not get used to spread bolts.

for me the real question about the ARC....

does it really have 2 rear guns? for the love of god why?? was the dev that implemented that chuckling the whole time saying "man i know i gotta stick to cannon but boy is that extra rear gun going to be wasted in JTL."

OT: has anyone ever mapped out the ARC's hitbox? i found them to be kind of a pain in the ass to hit while flying Cyssk's mission. doesn't seem like they should be...

Okay.. I read that thread you had posted... it makes things look better..... I will submit to a new set of tests and give it one more chance. If I find that the ARC does fire from the center for the pilot just not visablly I will retract my statment of crap for the ARC.

You can do it as RSF, but you have to be a rebel combatant. *And you have to do the quest to use it*

The fundamental problem with the ARC is the two rear-facing turrets. It just doesn't seem to make any sense that a given manueverable shio is going to have 2/3 of it's firepower facing backwards.

Seriously, who makes a ship designed to only work best when you get people who are stupid enough to chase you? IMO one of the rear turrets should be moved to a pait of nose-mounted cannons. Makes the ridiculous firing spread of main guns more forgiveable and makes it overall a more practical combat ship.

I really want to give my opinion on whether it is good or not, but unfortunatly due to SOE's abismal bug testing and worse customer service I cannot fly mine.

Khaymanhad an ARC at a PvP event on Kettemoor. SOB did the lambada on my Nova Courier, managed to get in several kills with his ship and scared the crap out of my gunners.

In the right hands, those things are scary as hell.

the arc is more like a POB ship than a fighter, it was built with a full crew in mind. much like a pob as well, the gunner's play a very important role for it to work best.

I started the quest on my alt and for some reason the wookiees don't spawn at the imp prison so I sent a ticket and got a reply to write a /bug, grrrrrrr.

Hopefully you can work around that when pub 24 comes around and lets you abandon quests.

A little Q about getting the ARC-170 deed, does the person that wants to use the ARC-170 have to do the quest to be able to generate it? I don't want to end up dropping RSF or Imperial pilot on one char just to do the ARC-170 quest while I can do it on my alt.

Honestly though, I thought that compared to the heavy starter ships, Eta-2, B-22, and Heavy X-Wing, the ARC was a little light on mass. Argued that some in beta RotW, but as you may be able to tell, there was no appreciable impact.

That said, it does have its uses in certain situations. Psikobunny's guide is a good place to start.. and I have to say, a single rear-firing turret in PVP rattles me good, let alone two. Probably not as effective as three separate pilots, but it might be enough to vape me before I understand what I'm up against. It's something of a high risk/high reward situation.

There's no better ship for missions with gunboats that will follow you around a map. Keep a static distance out of the range of their turrets and have gunners fire behind.

But my main point is that the pilot's guns are crap for shooting.. they are just too far apart

You know that cannons score damage from an invisible beam, protruded from the centre of the ship? The blaster effects are just graphics. This was more or less proven a wile back. In this game, weapon spread etc is merely a myth. There was a nice long thread about it which I've misplaced but from what I've seen, the evidence appears to be conclusive. Search Phizuol's posts and you'll find it.

Oh I do agree though, the ARC-170 is pretty useless imo if you're a solo pilot however with a fully competant crew...I have wondered at it's application within the correct context. I think it'd work.
