Thread: ARC-170....is crap

Is it me or does anyone else think that the ARC-170 (while one of the best styled ships) IS THE BIGGEST PILE OF CRAP FOR A SHIP IN THE GAME?

I was happy enough when ROTW went live and I heard about all the new ships that were coming with it. I gained all the new ships one way or another. While standing at a ship terminal looking at my newly aquired ARC-170 I was glowing with pride. However that pride turned to pure hate for the ARC-170 upon launching. I had balanced out all the best ship components I had on the ARC-170 and felt that even though I only had my pilot's seat gun I was in control of a formidable ship.

After setting up my droid commands I set off to test the ARC-170.

The speed was nice and the pure handling of the ships was wonderful... then I spied my 1st set of targets, puny tier 3's. I locked on to my first target and began the chase. I had no problems just sitting behind the targeted ship I could stay with it all day... everything still looking good to me, I had to see how well I could take hits from this puny tier 3. I soked up the ship's shots easy enough with my shields... Okay now its time to finish this up and go find some bigger ships to test on..... so line up the puny tier 3 for his death..... He is in my sights... ready, aim, the target is 80m away from me good kill range for most ships.....FIRE!!!

Nothing!!! I missed

Okay fall back some... I am now 100m away from the puny tier 3.....FIRE!!! I missed again!!!

**edit**!!!

I, who can keep track with tier 5 A-wings and pick them off at liesure in my Kryat can't hit a damn puny tier 3... I soon discovered that I had to rock my ship and hope for a clean shot.

I thought okay maybe i had a bad day and should try it out a bit more b4 I mark it as a reject ship. I go after some tier 4 black suns.

Things get worse... A single pilot in the ARC-170 makes for a crappy flight.... the pilot's guns are just too damn far apart to be worth anything other than taking on an imp GB or reb GB.

I never asked any of my friends to fly in the two turrents after being told both turrents face the rear..... **edit**??!! I have flown in the puke seat of an imp agg and rear turrents bite.. they are just good for bringing along someone to grind thier xp.

So why is the ARC-170 so crappy? Its a beautiful ship but the pilot has crap for guns and the original textured guns (like in the movie) no longer exist in the game for it... and there are other guns that dont even line up on the wing tips!!! One gun is floating out in space beside the ARC-170 and the other gun is burried in the wing!!!

i noticed that too, with the cannons floating in space, but it is a nice ship imo, fly with a gunner and you dont have to worry about your six, ive soloed the ISD many times with that and even the kash vette with it, its a nice ship

But my main point is that the pilot's guns are crap for shooting.. they are just too far apart

its not really a pilots ship, its a teamwork ship, you get a good pilot with great gunners in there....one ship i would not want to try to chase down

LOL that sounds great but no-one on my server likes riding in the puke seats.

In PvP that would be a great thing but fighting NCPs tends to piss off tail gunners

hahaha thats absoultly right, but seriously test it out in pvp, give your tail gunners more powerful weapons than you, and just cruise around landing hits...its great

I've noticed the best way to line up shots from the pilots guns on the ARC 170 is to roll the ship on its side and track your target so that your shots like up paralel between the recticle and the nose of the target. Basicaly roll and keep turning to the inside of the curve. It seems to work better that way. I took mine up to help another pilot with a tier 4 mission. It wasnt as effective as my Heavy X wing but the YPR beats the X wings handleing hands down. With practice and a tail gunner or 2 shes not a bad ship and she has style.

Yes. Thats a good thread. I actually posted on that. For me at least that all holds true if your shootng dead on to the target. Turning dogfights seem to be different in how you lead the target. I dont understand it but I'm just posting whats working for me. My ARC is my "fun ship". I only use her when I'm feeling upfor a change or taking up friends.

Don't insult this ship... sure, it got it's quirks and issues, but i made my very first space PvP kill in mine. (I landed the killing blow, but having two people along for the ride sure gave the other pilot enough heat so i was able to do that...)

And this was not even scheduled as PvP, we just were helping one person in guild to get his master pilot and since some lower certificate pilots (understandably) didn't want to come in their tier one or two ships, i took them as my gunners.

Also, the mentioned guide is great, i followed it (without informing my crew about it) and they actually had plenty of fun as they almost always had something to shoot at.

I think it's a pretty nice ship, In fact it's my main ship that I use when I'm helping a guildmember take out the kessel or kash vette, takes a while to get used to the weapon spread I'll admit but once you get used to that it's pretty effective.
