Thread: changes for the piloting profession
1 million XP doesn't take very long, and anything less would devalue the whole experience. Not to mention if you rush up the Tiers as quickly as you'd like, most Pilots would still be green and would get shredded by the 'Vette. Can't really call yourself an 'Ace' if it's too easy, right?
XP is easy to get as a pilot. I took 1 tier 2 duty mission the other say and walk out with about 150k xp. That was about an hour to an hour and a half flying too, not long at all.
I would love more loot
That's always a good thing. Not needed though, after that duty mission, I had looted about 30 parts. Granted I didn't want to use any of them or I wasn't high enough lvl yet, but I did loot a lot for 1 duty mission.
Personally I would never use a surrender command, but I know there are some people that would like that.
Guys..by the tone of the original post, I think the poster has just finished Tier 1 perhaps and has looked forward thinking that it will take forever. He is obviously new if he thinks 1million Xp takes that long to grind
To the original poster: The longest part of mastering, is finding a small crew to help you beat the vette
My most recent and sixth mastery, which I'm just about to go wait on the ImpVette for (Crimson Phoenix)... well, this time last night I'd just killed the vette for my Havok badge, and 2 days before that I'd completely solo'd vortex. Admittedly both with the full master pilot exp bonus.
Kill T4's in dathomir, or stuff in kessel (easier if you're SA or CorSec - more viable targets) for your T4 boxes, or grab a duty mission or 2. 1mil exp, while it SEEMS painfull when you look up the tree, is really quite easy to get in an hour or two of solid flying.

So maybe there needs to be an elite pilot profession.
What would another profession offer? If it came to that, I'd just as soon add the xp grind to the third tier and put new abilities in the existing tree.
Its not that I'm opposed to another grind, but the question is, would there be a point to it? What would you do to top the progression of difficulty which exists now? When would the difficulty of higher Tiers either make existing challenges pointless (even though players can learn to effectively fight advanced and powerful ships in Kessel, Deep Space or parts of Dathomir, it still requires some level of skill), or you make the challenges so ridiculous they become inane. (Aimbot AIs, and the like)
Option 2, and this is the one that could blow us wide open. Create a ranking system progression, with progression based on PvE and PvP performance (maybe this is the missing use for Prestige points?).In advanced levels, you can higher level specials, certs for specialized ships (like the damned ROTW boats you can't quest for because of faction restrictions), or inherent performance enhancement in the pilot himself. Maybe a ranked pilot can have a ship like the Krayt or the B-Wing perform at a higher YPR based on his "legendary" status.
