Thread: The FS Conversion Dead Horse

I'm one of the many who would much rather see pilots be able to gain something space-related from prestige points before we start worrying about FS conversion. Everyone in space is a pilot, but only a minority of us are going through the FS process as well.

JTL should be an ends to itself, not a mere tool for your groundside abilities. People who fly for the purpose of FS xp probably aren't going to be in the skies any longer than it takes them to unlock. What we want are systems that encourage people to fly because it's fun and rewarding in the context of JTL. That's what's going to get people piloting and keep people piloting, not the prospect of an easier grind toward a goal that ultimately has zero to do with space.

Personally I would agree with them, but if even 50% wanted a FS conversion I would push for it. But it has been under a 25% percentage that have been 1) Really wanting 2) On the fence, and that tends to have me push for other stuff differentfrom a FS conversion...

Monso,

Thanks for the input. I do feel very strongly about the FS issue however I would have to agree that it isn't the number 1 JTL issue on my list. Even so it still doesn't make any sense to me not to have it.

Also, you polled the player base in the pilot forum who consist of mainly people who don't like the ground game and some who absolutely despise Jedi. Try posing the same question to the folks over in the Force Sensitive forum and I'll betcha you get much different results...

Thanks again...

I'm against any kind of FS conversion for JTL but would love it if a Dev would set the record straight once and for all.

I recall the same discussions on the JTL beta forums but since they have been taken down there's no way to give a link to every one asking for FS conversion.

Perhaps a nice visit from the Devs and a post that can be stickied on the top of this forum would be good enough to put an end to these weekly debates regarding FS.

They want FS conversion.. ok fine here we go..

On starship piloting experience only; NOT prestige, at a converstion ratio of 1 to 2,000,000. Make the jedi starfighter a master level ship , and normal XP loss rules while in space, oh let us not forget perma overt. Saves them the trouble of having to declare.

Hell id support that in a heartbeat, that make me damn happy Hell I'd be doing factory runs on MK II IR's in celebration

Thats always a tought one. If you polled the BH forums an overwhelming majority would want to hunt Jedi in space. If you polled the Jedi forums an overwhelming majority would want to have special abilities. If you polled the Smuggler forums they would want to have restricted movement and/or many special smuggler only missions.

Would these things be better for pilots in general? Maybe yes maybe no, but the compairisons could go on for a long time. What I have always tried to do is take no profession (or the FS posting group) over the rest of the pilots. One of my famous personal quotes from my time in restaurant managment regarding focus groups is "beware of asking a question of a specific group when you allready know what the answer will be" and I think asking this in the FS group would get the same "yes" answer as things like "would you like for easier conversion rates?", "would you want special bonuses for ******".

No, what makes no sense is that you ignore all the previous discussions and state your case at ground zero again. Either acknowledge the legitimate counterarguments with more than lip service when you drag this dead horse out of the barn again, or stow it. It shows you're the close minded one, not the people who don't want this. We've all taken the time to think it through and respond, you're the only one who feels the need to bury those counterpoints, because when faced with them, your position crumbles.

I personally am in favour of having a FS conversion for prestige points, and it *must* be prestige points. Why? it would be far too easy, as any one who's got a mastery in each faction - so normal xp + 3 x 100% bonus's - to rack up outrageous amounts of xp. Take your current prestige points, and multiply it by four. That's how much xp you'd have had, with the same amount of kills.
Admittedly, 4444 pilots can't go in to deepspace without the assistantce of a mate, who's an ace. But what's to say I don't ride shotgun in the back of an aggressor, and go watch a movie while he faction farms? I'm still racking up lots of spacecombat xp.

Prestige would be different. It would force a decision, if PP were ever to be used for bigger and better things: Do I convert it, or do I use it to buy/build whatever it may be used for in the future?

Also, multiple aces do not get the bonus for prestige points, and nor should they.

Perhaps then, a poll in every forum would be appropriate? Then take the average of the results. That would seem to be covering the majority of the player base.

Seems like a good idea to me. If the conversion rate is set fairly there is no reason this wouldnt work. Nothing is going to be faster then grenades but right now if iwant to unlock a second char. I have to stay on the ground chucking grenades at baz nitches.Since right now i dont lose FS XP on the ground i dont see why i should in space. Dancing gives you FS XP but dancing isnt going to kill you either. I dont want space to be the fastest way to get FS but i would like to be able to useprestige for something.

I think ya missed the sarchasm in my not so serious suggestion

Unless im mistaken (and i could be, i dont normally look at my skills screen), when you make master, you stop earning starship xp and start earning prestige. Oh but wait, i put the jedi starfighter as a master level ship. Make master, no more xp conversion, but dont make master, no j3dy3 starfighter.

on top of all that, i put them at perma overt.

Why Yes, i am evil.

Why is it Space and Pilot is seen as this 'stepping stone'. By that I mean we have players like myself that see JTL has a new ball game and don't want JTL to turn into the ground game. Yet everytime I see a post like this it go's on to how great it would be if Jedi had Force stuff in space, gained force xp in space....

Ok lets look at 3 Pilots from the movies, Luke, Han and Wedge.

Luke is a Jedi, he blew the Death Star to kingdom come. Everyone loves screaming "Luke used the force to make that shot!!! Cuz of that we should have Force stuff in space!!!" What Luke did on the Death Star run is do what Pilots did in World War 2, Torpedo runs. Go get a copy of any World War 2 flight sim and try doing a run on a Battleship. Guess what it's hard and takes skill, you have Fighter's coming after you, Flak Cannons sending up alot of Flak, and MG fire coming from the ship as well. Tell the truth I believe Luke may have used a little insite into the force. The rest was Pilot skill and luck, lets not forget he had Vader a Sith behind him who wasn't useing the force to take out the rest of the X and Y-Wings coming in. Btw remember those words Pilot Skill they will be coming up more....

Then we have Han and Wedge, Wedge who is looked at as one of the best Starfighter Pilots in space. And Han who spent years flying for everyone from the Empire to the Hutt's. Both Han and Wedge are seen as great pilots, some even say in the books better then Luke. And oh yeah both Han and Wedge are not Jedi's...

Know what I don't want FS in space. I want Pilot Prestige to go for things 'for' space, not so I can become glowie and run around with a Saber. I don't want players who feel they should spam things in space to win, I want players who have 'pilot skill' up there flying with me, or fighting me. I want my Piloting Skill to mean something, not just "Hey look I have a Krayt Fighter and a YT-1300!" or "Yay I can spam force space lighting!!!"

If your dieing for Jedi space fighting, then go out and pick up a copy of Jedi Starfighter.

The only way I'd ever think Prestige xp to FS xp would EVER be fairly convertible would be if the ratio was 500 or 1000:1. You couldn't make starship xp convertible, as true powergrinders would do eight squadrons, then stick at 4444 on the 9th to exploit the multi-Ace bonus.

With 100,000,000 prestige on the aforementioned ratios, you'd be getting 100-200k per conversion at that level. The 30:1 combat xp ratio just isn't going to work in space, where you can pull in 5-19k in xp in a few seconds with no risk to yourself. Everyone in this damned game would have enough saved FS Reflexes and Prowess xp that EVERYONE would be a Jedi eventually.

I remember when I decided this was a bad idea is one of the first posts I read about it was by some nudnik who claimed he thought starship/prestige xp was as valuable as combat xp, and he DEMANDED a 3:1 conversion ratio.

Now, I know he's a flipping moron now, but even 30:1 is too damned liberal for a conversion ratio.

And I KNEW this "SEE, SEE, LOOKIT! A JEDI STARFIGHTER! NOW JEDI SHOULD GET SPECIALS IN SPACE/WE SHOULD GET CONVERSION" crap would start all over again.

Monso,

I think the question that we really need to ask is whether such a change will be positive for the entire community and not just the people grinding FS OR the people who use JTL as a means to escape the Jedi dominated ground game.

There are certain issues that effect the whole community and are hotly debated such as this one. There have been many others in the past such as shuttle wait times, entertainer buff times, calling pets/droids in the wild, etc. etc. etc. This is a very large community and it is made up of many different groups, different professions, different factions and so on. Posing any of these questions to a particular group will most definitely yield a different result.

However, if I were to look at this situation objectively as a member of the SWG community and not a TKM or Master Commando or Imp Ace or ... or ... or ... I come up with the points I made in the original post. Which is why I felt it necessary to sit down and organize my thoughts and attempt to be constructive instead of just coming here and ranting.

As the Pilot Correspondent it is your job to represent a certain part of the community and you are doing that very well. Thanks for taking the time to post in this thread and hopefully we can get the same objective consideration from the devs...

1.) The ratio would be equivelant to 1 hour of play. For instance, if the average player can get Y amount of FS XP on the ground in one hour they should be able to get Y amount of FS XP in space. The math is actually very basic. Division is usually taught in like the 3rd or fourth grade...

2.) Only prestige points would be converted. Simply make prestige points available only to current aces/masters and give NO multi bonus.

3.) Again, this is Star Wars. I understand that there are a lot of things wrong with the ground game. I have been here since the very first day and I fully respect what an enormous wrench the Jedi and FS system has added to SWG. However, the solution is NOT to make space a place where Jedi are irrelevant. A better solutions would be the following:

I'm going to make this short because I plan to make it the subject of my next editorial for bluefrogserver.com, but here's the jist. The problem with the Jedi system is two fold. First, they don't belong in the current timeline of Star Wars. Second, there is no other high level content beyond 250 skill points. The solution would be to simply remove the Jedi system and replace it with several additional tier 3 classes (novice, master, tier 3). Instead of having everyone grind for Jedi once they fill their template they would have the choice to pursue tier 3 ranged, melee, unarmed, heavy weapon, etc. professions.

Now we all know the devs would never remove the Jedi system since the current Jedi population would /forceWhine3 from now to the next Life Day. However, if more tier 3 classes were added players would have more choices and there would ultimately be less Jedi. You see, Jedi are and should be an uber class in the context of Star Wars but they shouldn't be the ONLY uber class.

So instead of trying to keep Jedi out of space which just wrong when it comes to Star Wars we should be trying to ADD an uber pilot class that would be just as difficult to achieve as Jedi but would have the upperhand in space

Sorry in advance for getting so off topic but hey, it's my thread...
