Thread: Capital Ships Ideas on the ships themselves (updated 7/12/05)
Aside from the Corellian Corvette, there was a ship called a Corellian Blockade Runner, which was a 3/4 version of the Corvette. Not as many weapons, but certainly enough for Player control consideration.
Carrack-class cruisers were used by both sides during the war, much of the Alliance Navy were Imperial defections. Imperials were also known to use Corellian Corvettes and smaller ships when it suited them, too.
For simplicity's sake, its very possible to use one list of capital ships for Imperials and Rebels, while keeping a trimmer list for Freelancers (who while legit citizens of the galaxy, aren't gonna be flying around in miliary grade hardware without a few harsh questions coming from local customs officers).
Isn't the lancer frigate an imp ship? I guess it could be like the Carrack...
Oh, and two cap ship ideas:
Rebel- Incom Y-4 "Raptor" Transport
Freelance- Republic Sienar Systems Marauder-Class Corvette (Perfect for Corsec Aces:smileyvery-happy![]()

Yes, the Lancer is an Imperial anti-starfighter frigate.
The Y-4 Raptor is a 28m imperial transport for delivering commandos and AT-STs, but a few were stolen by the Rebels. It's engine output and weapon size designates it as a small transport, not a capital-class ship, unfortunately.

In addition to patrol duty, blastboats are dispatched for planetary defense and interdiction missions."
So... no, the Skipray COULD be considered in the running. If it is, then why not the Gunboats and Gunships?
I think most people are thinking on too grand a scale (SSD and Moncal Star Cruiser). We should be concentrating on the Corvette and Frigate sizes and leave the Destroyers, Cruisers, andthe other larger onesin the realm of impossibility because of sector sizes.
ARMARMENT wise, it could COMPETE with small capital class ships, but neither the blastboat nor the gunships meet the 100m capital ship minimum size requirement.
However, come to think of it, we do have one capital ship already flyable in-game--the Y-8. I wouldn't be surprised if they revamped it to be the begineer capital ship or something. It's past the 100m requirement at 120 or 110 meters (I have conflicting info on that), and I doubt it'd be too much trouble to turn it into one.
And as far as the "only being able to get on the bridge and use the hyperdrive" is concerned, when you think about it, it doesn't make any sense. SoE had to have known that the movie would have been interperated as "we get capital ships," and unless you're one of those conspiracy theorists who thinks SoE is trying to make our lives miserable, why would they put it up? It'd be stupid to post something as unsubstantial as one quest where you get to fly around a corvette in a fanfest showing where it would get a huge amount of hype. It's only logical that they are planning something more.

Garva said the Y-8 is 110.3m. And if you look carefully, you'll notice it's roughly the same size as the forward section of the Nebulon-B.
I don't really have alot to say about this, except, a pilot IS NOT a captain. Capital ships should be hard to maintain, and fly. It should be the Jedi of space. It should not be apart of the current pilot profession, except for possibly needing master pilot for the novice box.

Well, yes, running a hundred meter plusvessel is really more about crew and resource management than steering the behemoth oneself. So I can agree with you there.
But really, we should include the gunships as part of the package even though they aren't capitol ships, as kind of an intermediary between the Falcons and the Corvettes. The profession should simply be called Ship's Captain to avoid the whole cap ship arguement. So I agree with their inclusion here, and as you rise in training (and rank) you get to manage larger vessels.

I had heard something along those lines before, just couldn't remember for sure. Adding Skipray Blastboat back into the list. What tier should it be? Many of the tiers I have are based on size and/or what little I know of the ships. Some, such as the Blastboat, break the usual norm, and make things more difficult
Okay, nice to see ideas flying. Thanks for everyone's help, as soon as I send this post, I'll be updating the list. (I wish the spacing would stop screwing up, it's perfectly aligned in the post window before I submit it...)
@atat9619: As I (believe) I said, I do not know much about some of these, many of them are best-guesses and appearances. After I update the list, if you see any other ships that seem out of faction, please let me know which ones so I can move them.
@atat9619's post with the list: Under your veteran rewards, when it says how many days, do you think it should be how many days the account has been active, or so many consecutive days logged in (as in the Sorosuub 3000)? Or maybe a mix-up of this?
Keep all the great ideas flowing! I can see cogs turning in some heads here ![]()
@whoever mentioned the 100m minimum capital ship size: Where is this minimum listed? Who said a capital ship can't be shorter than 100m. I'm not saying that it can, but I've never heard of this rule before, if it's a personal rule of yours, what is your backing and reasoning behind this? I'd like this list to be as comprehensive and well-thought out as possible. Who knows, maybe we can make SOE feel lazy (hope they're not reading this, lol) and just take most of our ideas (wouldn't that be great?) and tweak them so they all play nicely with each other.
@bickillon: yes, I have been using your charts pretty extensively. If you notice, most of the ones on the list by me are in SWG and/or on your charts. Keep up the great work on them! They look wonderful! And very professional. I also like some of your ideas listed elsewhere on the site, although some would be unfeasible in the current SWG. Keep those creative juices flowing.
K, updating list now, shouldn't take too long. Just gotta sift through those two huge lists, combine 'em, pour over this thread again, tweak spacing (grr...if only it'd stay the way it is when I post it....), and.... ![]()
UPDATED: many things, too many for me to remember and list. Namely more ships/tweaks to existing ones; slight change in layout to improve alignment. (dang forums for screwing it up in the first place ![]()
