I'm on the ninth, and I'll confirm that the XP bonus comes from faction, not squadron. I mastered Rebel (Havoc) early on and dropped it, went up smuggler getting 2x XP. Dropped smuggler and did CorSec getting 3x XP. Dropped CorSec and did Rebel again (Vortex) getting 3x XP. Dropped Vortex and went up Imperial (Storm--not near as hard as everyone makes it out to be, IMO) at 4x XP. Dropped Storm and went up Imperial (Inquisition) at 4x XP. Dropped Inquisition and went up Imperial (Black Epsilon) at 4x XP. Dropped BE and went up Freelance (RSF) at 4x XP. Dropped RSF and started up Phoenix at 4x XP. Just need to finish Phoenix to get my 9 badges.

EDIT:

Correction-I didn't get the 4x XP until *after* I mastered my first Imperial squadron (Storm). My apologies for the mistake. I left it in the original form because it was quoted later on...

First I have to send a thanks to Lusankya for helping me get my first Rebel Ace. On Bloodfin I'm Popo Jiju, btw.

Anyways, I noticed that on all of the RSF missions where you have "help," they never actually engaged, just sat there. This actually helped me with that Tier 4 exit mission, so for all of you having trouble with that, here's how I did it. First I managed to pull the fighters away from the gunboats by essentially running away a lot, eventually the gunboats fell far enough back that I was able to take out the fighters un-harrassed. Then what I did was fly back to that little cluster of Z-95's and Firesprays that were set on 'spectate' rather than 'help.' I positioned myself so that when the gunboats came into range they would have to fire through the cluster to hit me. When this happened, the AI woke up and went after the gunboats.

The advantage, if you were wondering, is that I now had a full force of help to engage the gunboats, as opposed to the gunboats whittling the ranks down as they engaged other targets. The force was large enough that they actually lasted quite a long while against even two gunboats. It was also large enough so that the gunboats completely ignored me, so all I had to to was match speed and unload on them, with no return fire directed at me at all.

I hope this helps anyone having trouble getting through this, and it wasn't just a fluke that it worked for me.

You can get the Boltdriver, best gun for the X-wing(especially if you get 2 from imperial squadrons), not to mention all the other loot/rewards spread across the squadrons.

"And to clear the record Black Epsilonhas the hardest missions"

Have to disagree strongly here, as Storm Squadron sets you against forces a Tier higher than you should be facing for the first 2 Tier 3 missions(if you get craft and equipment the first 2, heh).

Black Epsilon I found to be the easiest of the 9(did both BE and Inquisition during 60 consecutive hours)

Hm. Debate that SS is harder than BE, sure, but to say BE is the easiest of the 9 missions is a little outlandish. Some of its missions, particularly the tier 3 ones that involve you against one or two gunboats and a large fighter escort, are almost humorously difficult. Soloable, but leagues harder than anything I ever saw in Smugglers' Alliance, for one.

Personally, I found SS to be a lot more time consuming--BE didn't seem to have many escort missions, but those are about the easiest thing you can do--but BE's mission objectives tended to be a bit harder. I think BE has a slight edge in sheer difficulty, but I'd way rather face it than SS due to all those two-hour missions, none of which are exactly a cakewalk.

Anyway, congrats to youse guys with all 9. That's some serious skill and dedication.

I too, can confirm that it's one bonus per FACTION you have a mastery in.

I found BE not terribly easy, but I managed to solo all of it...right to the part where you have to take out that Tier 4 gunboat who really doesn't like you very much...and chases you half way around the galaxy

Imperial Inquistion was easier, but I also found the story a lot more engrossing than any I'd done previously.

Storm squadron I would have to say is the hardest imp squadron to master. It's pretty cruisy if you've got a bunch of friends up there too, but doing it solo is hard work.

Arkon's Havoc was an absolute laugh...right up to 4333 lol. Then it got a tad more difficult ,-)

What kind of a perk would you expect for constantly changing sides in a war? A firing squad?

I just want to ask a question for those with this experience...

Can you equip each of the Master Helmets and Jackets after you've dropped the pilot profession they were tied to?

Also, do you get those rewards for all three branches within each Main Pilot Faction (Or just once)?

Thanks, and congratulations on mastering all 9!!

May the force be with you.

No, you can't. The only equippable items are for the faction you are currently in. This counts for the novice level clothing rewards, too. If you've got the mercenary bandoleer and you're a Rebel, you can't equip it. As an Imperial you can't equip the Rebel flightsuit, for example. You can only equip the rewards from your current faction.

Thanks for the response

That's a bit harsh (I can understand the Rebel and Imperial stuff being restricted, but I think the player should be allowed to wear neutral and current factional outfits).
I'm glad I didn't do my original plan of Freelance Master just for the jacket and helm and then master Rebel Pilot. I decided to just master Rebel Pilot.

I guess my question wasn't as much of a hijack as I originally thought... I think a fair enough reward for your work would be to allow neutral and current faction rewards to be equippable.

If you're a Ground-Factioned Rebel and a Master Freelance Pilot, that earned the Rebel Ace Helmet by previously mastering the Rebel Pilot Profession, I think you should be able to wear it (Same for the Empire and Neutrals).
In my opinion, that's a little game-mechanic quirk they should alter.

May the force be with you.

I suppose it depends on your flight style and equipment. I found it not quite so challenging at all except to the spirit(the hour and a half escorts).

Thanks for responding and confirming the bonus xp wish I had known earlier

Just went through the SA tier 4and thought the waves of aggressors and decimators all tier 4 was fun to solo ( now I have better equipment and didn't sweat it this time).

Glad to hear that I'm not the only fanatic in space. I would like to keep this thread going to show the devs that there are people still playing in space and that we are not a dying breed.

Thanks everyone for your input

I am hearing that the opposite is true. Only a bonus for faction, and just 1 for each faction. Still waiting on confirmation from a few that have done "the 9"

You are correct here, I am on my 6th Ace now and made sure I did one from each faction to start with - got a 1x bonus afterCrimson Pheonix, another 1x bonus after Inquisition and finally another 1x bonus after RSF - no additional bonuses since and for each of the subsequent Ace badges I get a total of 3x bonus XP. This means that for a Tier 3 bomber worth 1665 XP I get an additional Master bonus of 4995 XP (which makes me very happy every time I see it). So it is a bonus for each Faction you have completed.

BTW - I'm doing Storm Squadron next (on 4/4/3/3Black Epsilon now) and reading through the forum I'm not looking forward to it - I like doing the vette in a group for fun (though I've solo'd it every time it's been my mission) - but the grind up to the vette I like being able to solo, I hope I can do this with SS , guess I'll see how it goes...
