Haha...yeah, I wouldn't expect anyone to fly a TIE/ln into combat any more than I'd suggest people start flying Z-95s into PvP. (Though I might one night, just for entertainment value.)

Really, though, the X-wing isn't unbalanced with TIEs when you consider how large it is...it's a pretty dang big target so, unless you're moving fast, you need to be able to take a hit or two to survive against TIEs.

The A-wing's mass may be a bit on the high side, all things considered, but I'm not fond of that ship...I dunno, don't like the way it handles. It might have something to do with the fact that, the last time I flew one, I was using a 92.2 prenerf reward engine w/ engine overload 3....I was moving too fast to hit anything!

But yeah, our guild largely flies X-wings, with our fearless leader in his Longprobe. (Been trying to talk him into flying a regular Y-wing so he can have a gunner, but he said he can't fit all his gear into a regular Y.) In fact, most of the PvPers on Starsider seem to fly X-wings...in my experience, anyways.

The 121st largely flies TIE Advanced, but there are a few Interceptor pilots on the server as well. (From what I've observed before being blown into scrap.../curses lag)

Ahazi seems to be starting to get some decent sized gangs of Imps. Interesting thing is they are from multiple guilds. For instance we had a group of 7 overts the other night from at least 3 guilds... Unfortunately it seems the Ahazi Rebels are not moving in the same direction nearly as fast as the Imps.

My dream for JTL.... (fix the one-shot one-kill issue..) Squadron of 5 XWings, 5 AWings, 2 BWings vs 5 Advanced, 5 Intercepters, and 2 Oppresors. All PvP Enabled in Deep Space. Maybe even throw a POB on each side.

I played a lot of WW2 online flightsims (no comparison to JTL imo) and one thing they had going for them that JTL is totally missing. Ease of organization. Built right in. I think we need to be able to have our guild memberships remain as they are but add a Squadron system. Much like a guild but secondary. Meh.. just a thought...

What I'd really like to see is just more bodies in the cockpits. PvP should be present everywhere. Not just Deep Space. (I'm not supporting forced PvP) but it would be nice to "stumble" upon 3 overt Reb's running a patrol.

Hey! I did fly a TIE/IN into battle lots of times! 40K mass goes a long way (I am using about 46K with my squint).

Veg, hope you don't mind but I copied your ship equipment into my mass management thread as one of the example ships. You're credited and all that.

No problemo, I'll hunt that thread down and post my Deci and Firepsray too later tonight.

As an Imperial, I have no problem with X-Wings' mass. They do present a meaningfully larger target than A-Wing, which makes me a happy foe, but their mass and weapons loadout seems to keep them popular with the Rebels--they're definitely the most used Reb PVP ship on our server.

Y-Wings.. I'd like to be able to laugh at them, but three of my four deaths are to Longprobe pilots. /slinks away

My apologies...I never saw a TIE/ln in a PvP situation. I must've missed it. Sorry.

Really...is any server as active for space PvP as Starsider? Not trying to brag, but more curious, as sometimes Starsider isn't exactly what I want or need...

Hahah.. Ramona flying that TIE/In around when we were going up against 40 Rebs at once was one of the funnier things I've seen in space. Best part of it is she's right; when you've been trained to work with 50 or 65K mass, dropping down to 40K isn't all that hard.

And from everything I've read in this forum, Starsider's got more PVP going on than any other server, all right. Yet none of us are on the CU team! HINT HINT!

im 6-0 in my longprobe on bria, got 6 kilss in one night, havent tried it agian. if its pointed at you, its a pretty tough target. if you can come in from above or below, its easy to hit though.

as for the xwing, its very very easy to hit, flying one in pvp isnt very intelligent. if all the rebs realized how hard the a-wing is to hit we would be in serious trouble. is love the insane damage output of the xwing paired with its great handling for pve, but its a deathtrap vs other players.

the interceptor doesnt have any real notworthy advantage over the advanced if you ask me. it seems to turn a bit better, but i think the advanced harder to hit. id rather have twice the firepower with the advanced so i can k.o. the other guy in one shot then a bit more manuverabilty.

by averaging the min-max dmg, calculating in the shield/armor effectivness, and taking into account the 25% pvp reduction along with wo3, my advanced hits for about 4300 REAL damage per shot vs players, which eats up a-wings and x-wings with a single hit 99% of the time. y-wings and other heavy ships that spend mass on good armor can take a shot, but they are still down on the second hit.

Anyway, to get sorta back on topic, here's the Interceptor I have set up for PVP and helping people on missions, the Scalpel I:

Reactor: 1040 mass, 11524 energy
Engine: 8708 mass, 95.9 speed, 67.2/66.4/67.5 PYR
Shield: 14140 mass, 1786 HP front/back, 11.46 recharge
Armor, front and back: 968 mass, 278 HP
Capacitor: 1548 mass, 980 energy, 39.5 recharge
Booster: 1041 mass, 850 energy, 27.7 accel, 32.5 speed
Droid Interface: 494 mass, 15.1 speed
Weapon: 14667 mass, 1987-3072 damage, .620/.540 effect, 19.8 energy/shot, .310 refire
Missile Launcher: Mk II Image-Rec, 5594 mass, 2643-6069, .430/.430, 5 shots
Countermeasure: Chaff launcher, 905 mass, 12 shots

Totals: 50074/50333 mass, 11104/11524 energy. I crafted the reactor, shield, armors, booster, missile launcher, and countermeasure specifically for this ship, which occasionally meant dropping unnecessary performance (in the case of the reactor, for instance) for the sake of a small but critical amount of extra mass.

Scalpel I's biggest advantages are its tiny silhouette and crazy speed, which keep it from getting hit by anything more than the odd glancing shot, and the fact it carries both missiles and missile defenses. I don't think people are expecting that out of an Interceptor, for one thing, and it's also incredibly useful, when I'm fighting a nasty A-Wing pilot, to have either an automatic missile hit or (in the case of a successful chaffing) that extra distraction to mess with their heads. Its shields/armor are a little light, but they're about the best I can justify for it, and they've so far survived about 10 different hits (including a missile blast the time I had total packet loss for about 15 seconds) without seeing any armor damage. It can also take me 3-6 shots to take someone down, which is a bad thing in the serious scrums, but the judicious application of missiles helps even that out.

The pre-nerf engine and DI can be replaced by the new reward engine and a current level 1 interface and still make an effective fighter. If I were using a TIE/In, I'd drop the missile launcher and use an RE'd level 6 weapon, which can have right around 10K mass. Losing missiles would remove a dimension of the ship's danger, but it'd maintain most of its functionality.

I like to think that flying an Interceptor has Rebels underestimating me, so they either target someone in an Advanced or an Oppressor instead or they line up on the Scalpel expecting a relatively easy kill and then she rolls away and tags them with a missile. In any event, it's the most fun ship I've flown, and I'm glad it can still be effective even for master pilots.
