i was thinking of changing the TIE advanced to do like awing pilots do: use one gun and the heavier lvl 8 reward shields.

Um, as far as I know, the advanced will do much better for you. I tested all this too and found the advanced has all the same speed modifiers as the Interceptor chassis, plus extra mass. It just does not make sense to run an Interceptor
Well, I do agree that using all the same components I can have a really nice advanced and throw on an extra gun (the one I have for that is a 3640 max dam). But, for me... "It just doesn't make sense to run an intercepter" I am running the Intercepter more for look and feel. Star Warseyness is a term I've seen thrown around a lot.
I don't endorse others doing things "my way" because I don't believe I'm always right. I will say this, it just puts a huge smile on my face to go cruising in this bird. When they first announced JTL (before I got into beta) there were very few "iconic" ships I wanted to fly as an Imp. At the top of that list was the TIE Intercepter.
Of course, you are correct. With the extra mass, and nearly identical stats the advanced is a better choice if all you're looking for is beefier stats, I figure thats why it is called "advanced" lol. In my opinion, my choice is based solely on style, looks, and feeling in flight. I even keep the cockpit graphics turned on in the Intercepter just because it looks so cool.
Essentially, I wanted to point out to other pilots that not only is it possible but it is viable to fly lower tiered ships even after you hit Ace. I know that most of us current Ace pilots probably already know this and have experimented ourselves, but for the "fledgling" pilots out there I wanted them to know it's fun too.

If we want players to use ships besides the ones with the greatest advantages we need to reward players for using ships with disadvantages. Points should be awarded for taking out ships that are superior to yours and those points can be used to benefit you in some way. (Probably just buying reward loot from pilot trainers or something)
Example
A-wing vs Tie Advanced - Even match, 4 point to the winner.
A-wing vs Tie Interceptor - Uneven match, 2 to the Awing for win/8 pts to Interceptor for the win
A-wing vs Tie/in - Uneven match, 1 awing win/16 points for Tie/In to win
You get the idea. These numbers are completely made up but it's be fairly easy to design a cost system that pilot trainers charge for high quality loot that can only be purchased with these PvP victory points. And to be fair to PvE there should probably be a conversion rate for Prestige points to PvP victory points. Mabye 1 million prestige = 1 Pvp Victory Point.
Hmm I like this idea so Much I'm going to post it under it's own thread.

Kudos to you!!
I like the look of it better too, in fact I hated the Adv look so much I did not even fly one until after hitting master and joining the PvP fray ![]()
I did manage to wedge an awesome lev 6 shield into the Interceptor that let me take the full twin blast from my guildmates Adv and still be able to flyby and turn on her butt. Problem was my engine, but I have a fix for that now too. Hmm, might have to try it again...
Damn you for getting me thinking about it again!!! ![]()

Great reasoning!!! Its the same very reason why I no longer fly my Freelance Ace toon unless its in a Firespray or YT-1300. Iprefer to fly in either an A-Wing, X-Wing, and yes believe it or not, the B-Wing with my Alt. I only want to fly what I consider Star Wars and iconic. The other freelancer ships such as the Dune Lizard or Krayt were very effective but I felt I was not playing Star Wars thatI know and love. Now if I could only fit in a Y-Wing I would be set along with the other 3 rebel iconic ships that I have. =P

You can definitely do a lot with 50K mass. I've got a level 6 prenerf engine, an RE'd level 7 reward gun, and crafted level 7 shields, and still have room for a missile launcher alongside all the other necessities.
- Reward shields
- Reward engine
- Reward borstel
- Re'd Lvl 4 cap
- and like 2K mass left over fully loaded (tax and dock fees not included)
Never thought I would have seen that day. Same thing on some of my Imperial ships.
