Do you put this much thought into whether you should join the red team or the blue team in any other CTF/team-based game ?

Hmmm red team.. blue team. Terran republic... red team. New Conglomerate..... blue team.

Nope.. didnt put much thought into that one, my guild/outfit was one team, and i stayed with my outfit.

Im a total free agent in SWG, i have no roots in either faction. Ive only sunk roots once, and it was the longest time ive ever stayed in one pilot profession.

EDIT:
The reason why im racking my head on this is because, ive done it again, for the VERY last time.

Thinking on this some, the question may be who do you like flying AGAINST more? I originally went Reb in the very early days of the game. But, it seemed like everyone and his brother was a Reb. While not every snot nosed little brat was a reb, it seemed like most all of them were. At least far more than Imp. So, I switched up. Even rerolled my Wook so I would fit the mold better as a Human. Not every Reb fit this description by a long chance. It just seemed like any punk had a 90% chance of being one. Fortunately, most of those folks left the game as soon as gradeschool started back in August-September '03. By then, I was in an Imp guild and there was no going back.

So, you should also look at which side do you enjoy blowing to bits. That may also give you a better insight as to which side you truely are. Maybe even look to starting a viable third faction that will go to whichever side seems to be loosing.

From an RP perspective this would work well for Smuggler's Alliance. They would want to prolong the war. It means a healthy market for all kinds of things and keeps the authorities from both sides busy fighting each other instead of looking too closely at that very fast freighter with a dodgy transponder. In a game perspective with things like Starsider's staged events, it would mean flying with the Imps if the Rebs had won the previous week. And, vice versa. No one would truely trust you, but they would want the help for the victory that week. You might even get a small group of people to follow along with you. Especially from Starsider with it's Smuggler heavy RP groups. You look at the lists of RP PAs and you'll see it split three ways almost equal: Imperial, Alliance and Criminal. I haven't been on the ground enough to know how this would equate out in reality though. That would need to be spoken for by longer term vets of Starsider.

Hehe, I have the complete opposite opinion as you. I feel Imperials have better ships. I prefer light interceptors though, and they have alot to choose from, Heavy Tie (don't under estimate this beast!), RGI, Tie Int, and of course the Tie Adv. I'm really not a big fan of the oppressor. It never really did anything for me. But my character is rebel, I simply could not remain imperial for any lenght of time, so I use the JSF, and A-wing, I have a heavy X, but again, its just not really my thing.

Frankly i really dont enjoy blowing up any one faction over the other. Only select jackasses get my ire, but thats about it. To me, everyone is a target, the only difference is if they come up as hostile or not. I guess ive flip flopped too much to care.

As for being a mercenary, i DID have that intention, and for some reason, it just left me. I think it has more to do with Privateer ships as it pertains to PvP. The Vaskai, for some odd reason, i just don't like flying that ship. Im not saying its a bad ship, it just didn't grow on me. That leaves the rest of the ROTW fighters thats avialable to privateer, and knowing my nature, id have my butt firmly planted in a JSF - something im doing my best to avoid, the temptation was too great for me as a privateer.

Well - I think you answered your own question =)

Fly CORSEC and be true neutral, switching sides as you see fit...

Besides, the Emperor needs a good spy in that outfit.

I just had a random idea!!!

I'm being serious too. You should start up your own faction of Freelance pilots. I have nothing else to say, but I htink RP wise on a certain server beginning with 'S', it'd work and be welcome.

The problem seems to be the lack of good choices on the Privateer side of the house without going RotW. Otherwise, I would be extremely tempted to join such an organization myself. I'm a smuggler before anything else. Just look at my sig and you'll see a trend. I just wish I had something to smuggle. But, that discussion belongs on another board.

I think Leaph is right... Make a CORSEC (in order to really be able to sell your services) based Space Guild and sell your allegiance to either faction, when most profitable...

Say Leaph and co. are going into a pvp event... "Repax, how much for your boys? We need the augmentation for this battle..."

Could be a lot of fun RP wise, especially since you really dont seem to prefer a side in the GCW (uniforms aside).

The Viper, er Vaksai, could be your signature craft... that and the krayts (let the A-Wings do the dogfighting)

Rebels have way cooler ship selection.... imperials have....er.. the best uniforms.

There really should be something else that makes imperial pilot interesting other than to look cool in a black flight suit.

I'm going through inquisition at the moment trying to get ace badge number 3, I'm 3333 and I'm still using a heavy tie, there really isnt a reason to use any of the other ships offered to me just yet.

Yet I load my rebel char and I'm actually stood there for 5 mins most days thinking "hmm what do I fancy taking up today" I'm so spoilt for choice.

I would say go with what you as a person feel you want to be, pvp on my server is dominated by imperials (there are a lot of rebels but the imps just seem better organised and trained) so i'm actually on the underdog side being a rebel, I would tend to go with the underdog side if I was on your server, even if that means losing my x-wing.

Smuggler's Alliance CAN shoot rebels, I've done it. RSF is the only "exclusive" Freelance squad.

The heavy scyk, at least in PvE, is a solid freelance ship. I used one the entire way through my first squadron and it spoiled me. Even the other heavies aren't quite as good to me as the Z-95's guns are too far apart and the Tie's are too close together and it is not quite as maneuverable as the other two.

I have no experience in PvP, but if I decide to participate after getting my last ace, I will probably be using the scyk.

Actually i'm RSF, ground rebel. Undeclared I can blow up rebel ships. Declared I can shoot up Imp ships.
Everytime I go to Deepspace,I have to re-deed my ship afterwards to be able to shoot Imps in Kessel.

I think a Smuggler's Alliance might work out better. They could easily justify joining in even without pay. Then again, each member could come in from their own squadrons. It's how you act after the 'training' within the squadron that would truely make you a mercenary.

On a side note, how does the Heavy Scyk stack up? It has 1 gun and a missile and the stats look decent. Is the hit box just too big?
