Thread: anything fun gets nerfed..
What's gonna happen is there will be a rebel quest where Obi Wanwill give you his old jedi starfighter. Continuity? SWG? Huh? No one will notice a thing, he's just another jedi ![]()

Is the JF really that big an advantage over the GF, which any pilot can get and has identical mass and hardpoints and speed and YPR?Message Edited by droid327 on 05-12-2005 02:05 PM

Difference being profile.

Difference being profile.
Jedi Starfighter and Greivous have the same stats in regards to performance and mass (YPR, Acceleration) ARC0170 has the same performance stats just higher mass. The new Hvy fighters also have the same stats and relatively same mass.
The issue isn't the profile, nor is it really the mass. The issue is that the performance stats are way higher than any of the original Tier 3 or higher ships.
Previously:
- Low mass = high YPR (performance)
- Medium Mass = Medium YPR
- High mass = Low YPR
Thats where the imbalance comes in, all the new ships are
- High mass = high YPR
The imbalance is that in order to compete in PvP you MUST be flying either one of the reward ships or a new Hvy Fighter (Tier 1 ships that outclass Tier 4 and Ace ships currently)
So, by simply reducing the YPR stats on these new ships to a level where they fit in with the design High Mass = Low YPR then you have a balance. It just doesn't make sense that a Tier 1 Heavy TIE should be able to kick the pants off of a Tier 4 AWing.
For PvE it's not so much of an issue because it's you against NPC's (although it makes what were once challenging missions into easy walkthroughs)
As I said, in the threads that are being referred to, the discussion is centerred on balance not a NERF. Just because you didn't buy ROTW doesn't mean I should be able to hit the "I Win" button in my JSF. The problem is not only with the Jedi StarFighter mind you. It's all of the new ships in regards to performance, not mass.

The main problem with the JSF/Grievous/and yes even the ARC-170 is the fact that the YPR is set extremely high in comparison to the other ships available with similair mass. Thats what the problem is.
Even the new "heavy" ships are to the extremes. The numbers are simply way off. Basically this means that either you fly one of these new ships or you get totally owned in PvP. I hate NERF's, despise them. Everytime a Dev nerf'ed something it became useless.
And let's not just focus on PvP. People tend to forget that these ships also creates issues in PvE. Issues in the form that, well, the rest of the ships are obsolete. The (non-heavy)TIE variants, the A-wing, X-wing, B-wing, Y-wing, all the Rxxyrysysyscyxhy-ships are all obsolete with RotW.
This issue is NOT just PvP'ers cries for nerfs on the other factions. In fact, I can't even call myself a PvPer, even though I like it. I'm on a server where space PvP is almost non-existant. Just trying topreserve theresemblance of ship-balance that we have had and tested since JTL was released.
(No, this post is not directed to you, Vegitaa, just quoted you because you mentioned other new ships than the JSF and PvP
)

No one has any problems with Imperials haveing the Jedi Starfighter, the problem is that it's the single best ship (high mass, extremely good handling and the smallest profile of any ships making it the hardest one to hit)in the game and it's ONLY available to Imperials because someone screwed up and certain parts of the mission require you to be imperial.
I don't know that it was a screw-up. This ship is owned by Anakin in the movies. You know..Darth Vader. Why would he give his ship to the rebels?
becasue he has it before he becomes DV so the rebels already have the plans for it?

The profile arguement isnt that strong, line up the starfighter and the Awing, the difference is small enough that it wouldnt make any difference at all inside blaster range.
There isn't any one thing wrong with it, the problem is it has all the advantages and no disadvantages. All of the pre-RotW ships have then advantage/disadvantage stuff to weigh back and forth for what works for you, this ship doesn't, it is the "I Win" button.
In truth, I'm sure the changes are just to make it easier for newbies to level so they'll stick around.
PvP is already dead thanks to the lag, and people won't want to trash chassis they can't replace.

QFE
.....
I got one, and I'm a ground Rebel and a Freelance Pilot. I just got some Imp FP off a Imp Smuggler friend of mine, did the quest to get it. Spent all the faction on some Tech stuff. And rejoined the Rebels....
Besides kinda cool having both Republic Fighters in my Datapad now. I really don't care what anyone says the ARC is a 'good' craft you just have to get a feel of it and learn how to fly it. Granted it only has one gun in the front (if you check out the databank at Star Wars.com it says that the 3 man crew had one piloting it, one maning the front weapons and the other as rear gunner. So I could see them making one of the MP Guns a front gun that the pilot can use when no one is maning it, tell the truth I think that would be the fix for it.) And the ETA-2 (aka Jedi Starfighter) is a fun little craft, it flys like an A-Wing but has the firepower of the Dune Lizard. Don't forget us Freelance Pilots have wanted a craft like the A-Wing as well.
