Just a thought i had by why not just add combat xp to space kills.. not a huge ammount.. between 100 -500 per ship say. Frankly I don't want to be a jedi i just want some force skills but the grind is so dull and I spend alot of my time in space. Combat xp for space COMBAT is pretty logical.

Combat XP is usually calculated at about 10% of the overall XP. They would maybe have to lower that in space. Either way, the FS grind is nothing but a time sink. It has nothing to do with skill or Star Wars, or anything related to gaming whatsoever. Therefor one hour of play is one our of play no matter how you slice it. Presitge should be able to be converted. Period.

Although most of the time I agree with you on post psiko and most of what just put does make sence I think my suggestion of adding combat xp to space kills would be fair. Combat after all is combat. If you were only gaining 5% of thestandard xp from a kill i can't see howthats gonna giveyouanymore advantage than you would have ontheground?

Yes your right pilot is a mete skill but you really can't properly fs grind and do thequest without masteringa ground combat prof anyway.

So why not make it so that yes you cangain combatxp from space but with a balanced rate that competes with ground combat xp? It has nothing to do with prestige then.. which hopefully will one day be used for something else. That way instead of doingnade grind, where your just pressing one button repeatedly (which is whateveryones doing now anyway) give us pilots the oppotunity to gain it the way we like.. but shooting down moving targets.

My personal take on this is that we need to leave Prestige XP and Pilot XP out of the whole gound game and NOT allow any sort of conversion to FS xp. I'm ok with crafting xp for shipwrights, but please no no no on the prestige and pilot xp to FS xp.

Right now, space is a great place to be, with people there because they want to be. It's all about flying and about improving your skills. Allowing the hoard of jedi hopefuls up there would just ruin the environment so much. Imaging almost ever POI with any sort of spawn rate camped 24/7, or how overcamped Kessel would be, and that's just the start of it.

Everyone else earned their lightsaber by either mastering professions during the holo-days or by running through the village system. Let's keep it there.

Shipwright crafting XP -> FS XP == Fine. They're a crafting profession and they've earned it. Just figure out the appropriate turn in ratio. Shipwright is a part of the ground game because it is yet another artisan. Only difference is the XP they earn per succesful craft is different.

Pilot Prestige and Space Combat XP should never, ever, ever be able to convert into FS XP. That leaves space open for Jedi, and space is where I go to get away from Jedi. Not only that, but if you could become Jedi by going into space, they'd have to allow Jedi's get XP in space. If they allow Jedi's to get XP in space, then they'd have all the fancy powers and lose XP on deaths in space. Then you'd have to have a system to find a Jedi in space with a BH. Not only that, but then the FRS system would be moved to space too. All in all, having any type of thing related to Jedi touch space is a bad idea. Except the Jedi starfighter because everyone will be able to use that anyway. Psikobunny has hit the nail on the head here with his posts.

Wo Wo Wo.. talk about abit OTT.. I never suggested that jedi should be able to grind jedi xp up here. Just suggested that using combat xp that would be as fast to get in space as it would on the ground. combat =10% of xp on the ground combat = 5% of standard xp in space. This wouldn't encourage more wannabe jedi to poor into space because it would beeasier for them to do the grenade grind which racks up combat xp far faster than standard combat or space would under this system. This system however would give pilots like you and me the opportunity to gain fs without going to ground.. (which I personally hate doing) I would never suggest a system that would involve jedi camping out space because like the rest of you I go up there to get away from it.

Its not OT at all, it's called the slippery slope. You say "well why not?" to FS conversion, then if it goes down, the next person says; "Well if we can FS convert, why can't Jedi do anything in space? I spent 40 hours in my ship to get Jedi, I want it to do something." The only cutoff that's acceptable is at the ground level, in this case, literally.

Edit: case in point- look at saabotage's post above. I don't want to put words in his mouth, but if he hates the ground game and prefers pilot, yet still wants to become Jedi.... how long until he or someone like him is here pushing for Jedi Pilot Skills and Force Specials?

Here's my last big reason for not doing this, or pushing for it as a community. Dev time is limited. With all the things that need to be added to Space, do you all really really really want them to waste time on Jedi stuff? even FS only? I won't accept the kneejerk response that it would take no Dev time, just an change to the FS conversion stuff. Anyone who thinks will see that to add it as conversion would take extensive testing on rates of xp gain, whether the rates need to be the same or different for each class of pilot (based on available targets, the additional benefits of fp in space, etc) It would take work, and I'd much rather see that time put into real post master content, not watering down the game to cater to the j3d3ye some more.

I don't think Starship/Prestige xp should be convertible, but I guarantee that the introduction of the upgraded Jedi Starfighter from Ep3 is going to renew this argument with renewed gusto come early May.

Even with a crappy conversion rate, people are forgetting the multi-Ace xp-multiplication factor - around the 8th/9th Ace, each gunboat is worth about 4x the normal amount - even if the conversion factor was 1000:1, 50k for one kill would equal 50 Combat FS xp for a few seconds' work (the equivalent of killing a ~1500xp creature on the ground).

I have no problems for converting SW XP to FS Crafting XP, but I do have objections for Space Combat and/or Prestige being converted.

Basically the FS grind's purpose is to take a certain kind of mundane XP and convert it into "like" Force Sensitive XP. For instance, crafting XP gets converted into Force Sensitive crafting XP. The basic reasoning behind this is, craft enough crap and, if you're force sensitive, you begin to innately use the force while crafting to produce better items.

Same goes with combat, you shoot enough things, you begin to innately use the force to fire faster, more accurately. Your faster reflexes make you harder to hit, etc. These are skills that (with some occasional stretching from the Devs) correlate with one another

Space combat XP, doesn't correlate. Shooting TIEs down in an X-Wing will not correlate to how well you hold your blaster. Shooting Y-Wings down in your Interceptor won't help your Melee skills. Dog fightswith Black Sun in your Krayt won't help you walk up hills (terrain negotiation) any faster.

The only FS skill that comes anywhere close to meeting these criteria is vehicle control.

But before you yell "AH-HA!" and point to that, look how vehicle control is implemented. It doesn't help you in JTL, so the converse should also be true, JTL shouldn't help you with vehicle control. It doesn't make good sense, game-play wise to allow you to get one type of XP and convert it into a completely unrelated field.

Now you could argue that FS conversion has a lot of holes in it already what's one more? But that's not an excuse to open up another one...in fact it's a good excuse to close those other holes.

Well if you talk to experienced pilot vetrans they will tell you that flying a ship in combat it much alike to aiming a rifle your aiming the entire ship and shooting at the correct moment to hit your target. Combat is also about how you deal with a situation can you keep yourself calm during a fight the xp of combat is also crucial. Why flying combat and ground combat is not so clear cut as you make it.

Honestly I couldn't give a crap either way, but there arepeople that would rather spend hours in space than on the ground grinding and I'm sympathetic to that, whyshould awant to flystop them from developing in the rest of the game?

IfI'm gonna go for any reference to prove my point then lets go to the source go old ep 4 and 5.. see luke in ep 4 he wasn't much on the ground now was he..couldn't shoot straight and everytime he got in a fight and old hobo or his lilsister bailed him out. The only time he was useful was in the cockpit of a starfighter.. then comes ep 5.. yet again mamed by a furball.. He flew again at the begining of that.. and was a squadron leader by this point.. really no ground xp... then yoda takes him on trains him as a jedi... finally he grows some balls and becomes useful on the ground... andthroughout the course of the rest of the movies doesn't fight in his snub fighter again...

So in theory gaining combat xp in space for fsuntil you become padawan and begin on jedi xp seems likethe starwars way to do it..

I don't want to see jedi camping space, but getting the combat xp in space at the same rate you get grinding on the ground i can't see the harm. I won't encourage jedi to come to space.. it will only encourage PILOTS to do what they love to do. IfI saw it begining to slideI'd be first on the band wagon to pull the plug... believe me.

Does anybody know if there will be a conversion for Pilot xp and Prestige points. And maybe Shipwright for crafting.

I have just made combat prowers and that was a grind for me, And looking through my available xp I have 7.5 mil xp for pilot and around 7 mil in Prestige points.

I am a far better at getting pilot/prestige xp than getting ground combat xp. And its about the same xp per kill. Rancor 5k xp = tier 4 Kimogila Pirate is 4.8k.

The only crafting I do is shipwright and thats way to expensive to drop for another crafting profession.

Is JTL going to be apart of the Jedi progression, hmmmm I hope so

I can also see the FS tree Vehicle Control a great tier for pilots.

Tell me if I'm wrong but almost every Movie and book has a Jedi behind the controls of a Starship at one time or another!

It currently does not, but it would be nice (considering there is really not much to do in space). should. Jedi xp should convert as well for Jedis looking to add or change what FS skill they have/want.

I just hit a bunch of buttons and hope everything works out.

You could grind Jedi a lot faster by going out and getting a job and working for two weeks for the 200 bucks it costs to buy a jedi account off Ebay
