Maybe I'm missing something here....but....doesn't TIE stand for "Twin Ion Engines"? Shouldn't every TIE have two engines?

AFAIK it's one engine, not two separate ion engines.
Sort of like a double-barrel exhaust on a 454 poncho.

i agree that its not as good, i have one of the old 92 engines, but what my point was is that everyone is complaining about 2 things.
1 Engines are not being found over 88 or so and can not be crafed. To this I say SOE dropped the ball.
2 but to the second complaint that there are no 70-80+ speed enginees which can be used in craft such as Awing is not true, because RE would allow you to do this. I think that everyone has become complacent with the fact that for our first few tiers we could fly with the stuff we looted. NOW we have to actually work to get a good engine or Cap or whatever. Thats RPG man. How many times I ran from city to city and planet to planet trying to find good armor or a nice carbine? Its a matter of getting the resources and getting somone to craft for you. But thats just my opinion.

Highest speed crafted engine that I know of so far is 113m/s. Even after chassis penalty, running overload 4 (because it can handle it) that Cert 9 engine will push a MP ship faster than any A-Wing will ever travel.
THAT's the problem.

The only engines I've found that will fit an A-wing are about 65 speed and low Y/P/R, REing it you will be lucky to get 70 because it doesnt really add that much to it. So you end up with a "high speed" fighter that is slower and less manouverable than a bomber or MP ship that can carry a high level engine with 90-100 speed and high turn stats....which doesnt make sence at all.
It will eventually just lead to everyone flying the ship with the most mass because no others will be fast enough, and thats exactly what people didnt want in beta because you eventually have everyone flyingthe same ship a.k.a "space composite". Its annoying, but it always seems SOE start off with an ok setup, then slowly screw stuff up over time, then needing to revamp the whole system and it starts again.

Who cares about the TIES. They have shields and hyper drives and you don't complain about that. Again let me stress the fact that we are not talking about x-wings. You can do modifiers all you want, but this would give you real power over how fast your LIGHT fighter goes.

lol, let me say it one last time...
game balance.
If you put 2 engines on an A-Wing, as per SWU design, you must put 4 on an X-Wing, et cetera.
I'm not complaining about anything here;we're trying to discussunbalanced ship classes, in this case, fighters, and their speeds in particular- A-Wing is just being used as an example. TIE is also a fighter, and game balance must be preserved. (And basic TIEs have neither Hyperdrive nor Shields btw - the Rebel starters do... I'm not complaining about that either, am I?)
*edit*
Further unbalancing by enhancing one shipor evenone class of shipis not the answer to this issue, since ALL the classes are out of balance, firstly, and secondly, as I said before, if you put 2 engines on an A-Wing as per spec, then you must follow suit with all other ship classes... meaning 4 on an x-wing. Which, again, is part of what invalidates the proposal.

Acutally there are in RE'd engines, but their incredibly hard to get because it takes awhile to get the right parts in loot to make one.

I've been looking for ages, but the only engines I can find with more than 80 speed arelevel 9-10, but their mass weighs more than the whole ship so they only fit in a bomber or p ship, which takes us back to the problemI said earlier

You guys must run away alot for speed to matter so much. Afterall, that is the only situation where speed really matters.
I have the 79 speed reward engine in my X-Wing. With the s-foils open, it does a max of 713. In combat, I back down on the throttle to about 605 for maneuverability. Roughly 84% max speed.
I also have a Y-Wing LongPig. It's max speed with the same engine is 672. And that max speed is completely irrelevant. In combat I have to back down on the throttle to rougly 50% max speed for maneuverability. And even then, the controls are about as responsive as a corpse. End result:
While in actual combat, my X-Wing is significantly faster than the LongPig with the same engine. It will remain faster than the LongPig at effective combat speed even if the LongPig was outfitted with a 120 speed engine. And in terms of responsiveness... It takes nearly 2 full seconds to reverse a roll's direction in the LongPig, drastically limiting both evasive maneuvers on my part and response to evasive maneuvers on the part of the target.
If a 120 speed engine existed and was fit into the LongPig, the only time that speed would make any type of difference is with the LongPig putting its back to me and running for Coruscant. And I'll still kill it because it can't outrun neither a missile nor a laser bolt.

Max speed is a big factor. It allows you to disengage and engage. Also it can give you the distance necessary to make your turns at slower speeds.
Think of it this way in your longpig you can joust a target, instead of turning just hit your boosters and out run it. Get far enough away to turn around and do it again.
This is only 1 example.

No Rhysen I never do.
Speed matters when in Kessel or DS my Advanced pushing 1254 speed *just* keeps up with an X-Wing or an A-Wing, because the AI is programmed to travel as fast as it can, or as fast as you can, both of which are always at least asfast as you can go, usually faster.
In PvP - hah. When an Oppressor can fit a PYR 75+ MaxSpeed 100+, your little fighter barely stands a chance unless you have an old RE 92.2, or one HECK of a set of PYR stats on a made engine.
