"1) Many pikeman view the Royal Guards seen in Return of the Jedi as thier SW rolemodels. From their outstanding red uniforms to the awe-inspiring force pikes, the Royal Guards have extreme appeal to those in the pikeman profession. Can the Royal Guard uniform be added to the game?

I understand that (They are very cool). I doubt the actual Royal Guard uniforms could be added for continuity concerns, but I will ask if either they or something similar can be added"

I'm wondering if the following has ever been suggested or attempted:


-Arrange a meeting with TH or any other Dev willing to particpate on TC.


Have TH/Dev play as a NOVICE Pikeman and have him duel a NOVICE TKA


Then, have TH/Dev play as a MASTER Pikeman and have him duel a2.2.2.2 TKA.


And I mean a char with NO OTHER COMBAT skills (no pistol, no fencer, nothing, just pure Pikeman VS pure TKA)


This should easily show the disparity in our effectiveness - hell, have them do abest 3 out of 5 duels. There should be LOADS of great evidence and stats and metrics they can gather from something like this.


Finally, if we're allowed some follow-up questions to thier answers, I'd love to know how the hell we're considered a "HYBRID" profession? Does that mean that TKA or Fencer is a hybrid profession, too? Are we supposed to acquire skills from other combat classes just to be effective? Can a dev please clarify this statement?

Is it just me or does it seem that the 'combat balance' will make the game harder to play without adding any new content. In a way turning this into EQ where mobs that conned green would kill the player. Effectively making so what little content there is get cut down even more because people can't access it. Soon everyone will have to group and there will be the required trinity ala EQ (Tank, Cleric, Enchanter). I was hoping that I would have at least a year of enjoyment out of SWG before it turned into EQ but oh well.

No, the Royal Guard informs wern't our number one issue....I just placed that in the number one question slot to start of with something new and positive.

TH's reply seemed pretty straight-forward to me. Most, if not all, pikemanconcerns will be addressed in the combat balance and after that, additional tweaking may occur based on where things stand. So we wait.


I gotta say, you get the accuracy fixed up onweapons (happening already), then fix the ham costs during the combat balance (publish 7?) and then tweak pikespecialmoves just right (once the ham changes have been in), and pikemanare sitting pretty sweet.


I'd be interested in to learn how this combat table looks and works. I'd bet it's like stat migration with a total pool of points having to be disbursed sort of deal.

Ok, lets for a minute assume that the combat balance will actually balance the combat professions. If not, everyone can complain because I will assume everyone is going to.


I just don't see how extra attention can help. If they do their best at making pikeman balanced with the others, how can they do something extra there? I would assume they are looking at HAM cost for all weapons/skills and dmg for all weapons/skills. Looking at how much dmg x skill does for a pikeman longer than looking at y skill for a rifleman won't help.


I know most of THs answers were pretty general, but I can't say I would have expected much more. I just hope all the other combat professions didn't include so much combat.



Specific numbers on the combat balance will never be posted. They have never even posted them for the current combat system when they have changed them. Those are numbers that are going to be tweaked on TC. Do you really want to see that you do 3x dmg on something and then that gets changed on TC after being on there for 3 days?

Wow what a whole lot of nothing, is this guy a developer or a polotician? I really feel sorry for you pikeman guys, you need some real attn. I have just novice fencer nothing else and dueled a master pikeman just for fun. I totaly beat him like a redheaded stepchild. How sad is it that a novice fencer 0,0,0,0 can beat a master pikeman hands down.

I sure have a hard time dissin Thuderheart. He always had the best posts back in pre-alpha.


Regardless of that, I recognize that sometimes you can't satisfy people's questions, no matter how important everyone thinks they are.


Hey TH, check on the Force Pike issue though, eh? Sounds like that's the one you weren't too sure of.

Theres Force pike is somewhat in game already, the Lance says in the description that it uses FP unit or something. I'm assuming FP means Force PIke.

Thunderheart has already stated he doesnt have details on the combat change and he wont. I am sure they are still NOT known as it is going to be introduced little by little and change accordingly.

Phantom, Pikeman have been VERY paitent as a profession you have 14 posts. you obviously have not been around long enough to judge how we are.
