Then the timing of the announcement - One day after the launch of Trials. They made sure that they got everyone's money before they told them that their game was being canceled in favor of a new game with the same name. For the CH's that bought Trials (not me, thankfully) this is an out-and-out bait and switch. It borders on fraud.

Oh, I think we're past "bordering" on Fraud.... saying "there will be content for entertainers in the new expansion" bordered on it. What they did to CHs and the timing of this releas WAS fraud.

After that I'd like to know how the new system (or if the new system) will integrate things like CL. Will the rules of no armor, no weapons unless you are certified for them still hold?
At this time, yes.

So... I have a set of RIS, a set of BH armor, some very nice weapons that were made specifically so that I could use them with a low CL/low carbine level...

And I love dancing in padded armor.

I will be able to do none of this if I choose entertainer? Not even wear my RIS any more at all?

I don't even really know what to say at this point, I need to let this sink in and stew a bit.

WIth the proposed changes, I feel sorry for those who like to cross classes(I'm dancer/melee), crafters, and creature handlers. If forced to choose once class, it will be a combat class. Thats ashame though.

It seems to me that under the new system entertainers would be even more cut off from the rest of the professions. I suggest we drop the entertainment classes completely, lets quit pretending that they are comparable to combat classes. Instead, lets allow ALL players the ability to learn entertainment skills. The people who dont want to engage in combat can just focus on entertaining, they just have to pick a starting combat class and then forget it. Those who want to "double major" can still do so. Seems to me a Smuggler that has musician skills or an Assassin or spy with dance skills would be great for role players. Heck, everyone can be a pilot (if you got JTL) or a politician in this game, why not do the same for entertainers?

Imagine the parties now if EVERYONE can dance at least basic dances!

Eshie, level with me: what are the chances of them relenting on the one-per-server issue?

That is my only serious issue with this whole thing. Frankly I think the new combat style sounds like fun, as does the quest leveling. But I'm seriously hung up on the character issue.

I am not cancelling. I have far too much invested in my two characters to toss it over until I give this new system a good tryout. I may be surprised and like it.

But it looks like one of my characters will end up changing to combat. Until I see just how badly my tailor/merchant is mangled, it will likely be my entertainer who gets the combat makeover. I'd rather keep her as she is, but two characters with no access to quests and content and no option to afford a third account... buh bye to my beloved song and dance. I don't want to just make a combat char on another server. I want to play where I have been playing for 2 years now.

I know I'dfeel a lot better aboutthis "New Game"if we got to have more than one char per server. It would make a HUGE difference.

Ok..going out on a limb here so I want you guys to all take this as my speculation only and with an adequate dose of salt. I'm not basing this on anything that anyone has told me but on my own personal experience working in gaming. I think there are two issues with the more-than-one-char-per-server question.

1) is the Jedi factor..there is this whole huge group of players who have worked incredibly hard to achieve Jedi. They are losing their alpha class status. About the only remaining reward for thier hard work is that extra slot they've opened.

2) is the database factor..I can't ever find the words to express how amazingly complex the database is in this game. Not only is it unlike anything I've seen in any other game..it has grown proportionally with the game's age (expected in a 2.5 year old game).

(again..my crystal ball is sucky so this is Not a prediction)

I could see where it would be possible, after a good cleanup of dead accounts from the database, to allow for additional characters per server/acct. Challenges regarding the viability of a crafter based economy would need to be addressed in this case.

As for the Jedi factor..who knows..maybe this will heal with time.

So yeah, Fusch..it could happen. I don't see itbeing possibleunder current conditions and circumstances..at least not in the immediate future. But I could be wrong..god knows I have been before.

I hope I've included enough weasel words here for us all to keep perspective on what I'm saying.

I should like an answer before Live so I can use my current token respec to go GrandMaster beforehand if needed.

I don't have an answer on this yet. I expect we will have more respec details as it gets closer to Live. Respec'ing is already on my list of things to test, although it might be one of the last items I get a chance to poke at.

I'm sorry if this was answered elsewhere...

So how will the abscence of macros affect creating routines, songs, and band performances?

Thanks Esh.

Can I just say that the dancer profession is very lucky. We've had some seriously awesome correspondents representing us, pushing for us, forcing us to be heard. I don't think you hear it often enough, so let me just say that I REALLY REALLY appreciate the time you put into this role. It does not go unnoticed, by anyone here.

Excerpted from the SWVault forums:

Kaessa - SWVault Site Manager
(Was at Austin as an invited tester for the NGE)

There is currently only one slot per server. They ARE going to change that. It's in the works. They need to solve some database issues, and we WILL see additional character slots.

One of the things we discussed with them was the possibility of retraining skills without deleting your character. Respec quests, being able to drop a profession without deleting, etc. I don't know what they're going to decide, but all of us who were there were very adamant that deleting characters is not an option, and that we all felt strongly about the ability to retrain if we decided we didnt' like our profession.

Like I said in my previous post.. multiple character slots ARE coming. From the impression that I got from the devs I talked to it is a BIG priority for them. There are database issues that need to be sorted out before they can, otherwise we'll end up with every server having issues like Bria had/has. The only thing stopping them IS the database problem. It's in the tech. They CAN do it. But they need to fix the database issues FIRST.

I want more character slots just as bad as everyone else.. with the new changes, it SCREAMS for more character slots.

I got this from Igie, the Brawler Corr who has been so graciously answering questions in this thread:

Right here!

Metricula wrote:
You didn't happen to catch how the dance/musician mechanics work now, did you? Is anything significantly different other than no macros? I heard there were also not hot keys. I don't want to have to stop a routine because I'm typing, but I like the possible ATK promotion.

"Yea, no hot-keys. That is a problem for ATK and typing for social. I am not sure, but I think you can still macro a rotuine to the right button (wow I forgot to try doing that). It would not be recursive, but you could set a large amount of commands into 1 macro and start it and be able to type. You would just have to restart it every time it stopped."
