Because i can have the secksy name of Sentinel....
Really i had heard that it sucked and nobody liked it, so i checked out your forums and found most of the people here to be more mature and that everyone really chose the prof because they love it. I tried it out and think it is the most fun i've had as a combat class.

I dabbled around in many professions, at one point I was a BH with some Carbineer. I thought I was a bad mofo. A friend and I were doing the Squill cave and this master pike came in, we both just sat there as squills dropped around this guy as fast as they ran up. That was the moment that changed me. I picked up a wood pike off the bazzar and went to work. It was the first profession I mastered (after 9 months...I'm indecicive!) and I will never drop it. I still chuckle every time I'm surrounded by 5 or 6 MOBs and I uleash the area KD and they all fall down, it is just too entertaining. Plus cool animation, and it works real good for hunting.

Apoligies if I'm transgressing some age-old law about getting off topic, but you really have to explain to me what a DOT is, what a nerf is, what "the coming" DOT nerf is on pikemen. I'm not a serious gamer, but one of my meager goals is to master Pikeman sometime before the end of time.
I chose it, myself, for many of the same reasons as everyone else: there are few in the game, so you're a bit of an oddity (in fact, I don't think I've ever actually met a Master); the moves look cool; and I've thought for several years that using a polearm was actually pretty cool in real life. Maybe one day I'll do that too!

DoT stands for "damage over time". Basically, once you land a DoT on someone it will continue to do damage until it either runs out of time or is cured. Looted lances often will have a DoT poison, disease or fire that will be applied to the target when you use the weapon on them, and our action hits are DoT bleeds that drain the action pool.
A nerf is basically a term for making something weak. Like replacing a wooden bat with a nerf bat.
"The coming" DoT nerf is expectation, not fact. Many people feel that DoTs from combat medics and on looted weapons are causing imbalances in the game and will inevitably be weakened or removed.

I've done every combat profession, and while some are stronger and some are faster, I really like pike. The electric damage of the Vibrolance is nice, as is the +115 block at master (get some tapes and your set). Most of my guildies are going pike with their templates now too! (and a couple that were pike WELL before me)
Plus it feels good to not be FoTM!...but if my guildies all go pike then...NNNOOOO!!!

The reason I took and mastered Pikeman when I did was because I got tired of being like everyone else. And when I started, there were hardly any Pikeman. then, right after I mastered it, someone figured out the Defense Stacking and it became an FOTM. So I dropped it and went to carbineer, and I soon tried of that so now I'm working on swordman, and say screw FOTMs, I'll play a melee and like it.
Besides, I'm soon to be a master CH, gonna take Sword (might go back to pike) with the mediation line in UA and the defence line sense I can put it there.

I wont lie. The little blue box told me to do it. I love the profession however. I have no plans to change or drop any part of pikeman ever. Hell, even if they nerf the DOTs I dont care. I dont have a single DOT pike.
After drifting from one boaring prof to another and the hologrind fiasco, pikeman is the one that keeps me playing. Now if I only could get that uber Nightsister lance I would be set......

I'll keep this profession forever, even with all the problems we've had off and on it's the best combat profession in the game in my opinion.

To be honest, I only took up pikeman for the defense, yes I am a defense stacker, yes I enjoy killing Jedi. And yes, if ya wanna duel, fine, it is your funeral, lol. Anyways, i am now currently 2/0/0/3 novice pikeman really stunk for me caus eI had a crappy LVA and didnt want to use my dotted LVA cause the fire took all my xp away, it was slow and it took me a good 30 minutes to kill 4 Giant Baz Nitches, when I woulda killed em in 30 seconds with my TKA. Then finally a friend found a 3.1 , 387 LVA for me, and I am much quicker and it is more fun. I plan on keeping Pikeman for as long as I want, an dno plans in dropping it anytime soon.
