Looks like our roles have just been traded really. Fencers are now damage dealers/dot specialists (only bleed, or so the docs say).

Would the real Rimy please stand up please stand up!

Personally, the most fun I ever had as a Pikeman was when me, two of my guild's swordsmen and a TKM were knee deep in the NS/SMC battlefield, all of us with negative faction points to both. I was in the middle, a swordsman on each side and the TKA just in front. I was doing Area 3 and spin 2 (I know what most of you say about it, but I've always found it better for a pikeman who isn't speedcapped), occaisionally doing Sweep 2 when the NS actually stood up. My range was actually long enough to effect everyone's current target, so as I kept the various things Stunned, Dizzied and KD'd, the Swordsmen would smash them into little pieces, with the TKM doing what little damage he could and stepping in between a target and the swordsmen when they needed it. Though the TKM did the most tanking, with the swords taking not insignificant stuff themselves, I did actually hold a few of the higher SMC on me while the others killed them. Though I do have to say, I had a 750 pike at the time, so I wasn't doing no damage, but nothing compared to what the swordsmen were doing.

I'm sorry if I'm the only one who feels this way, but that was always what I thought a Pikeman should be doing. Standing in the middle, swinging his (or her) big stick around, knocking heads, legs and whatever gets in its way. Being the rock in the middle of the formation, with damage dealers standing just behind and around.

CU is not sounding good. As a Master Pikewoman, I can hold my own verse a Jedi in combat. I refused to grind Jedi and I am happy that I can assault in the big league with my template. I feel after the cU with all this defence/weakness/you need a partner thing, it is not going to have the same appeal. Take away my DOT's, nerf our high damage weapons, and now take away our damage dealing, seems like Jedi will walk among us like gods. I remained a pike Master to keep a level of respect in this game be not jumping onto the Jedi bandwagon. I love and hate this game at the same time. CU will make or break me. Not happy!

I used to be for the CU before the notes on it came out. Master Pikeman/Master Medic/4440 Doctor is about to be a bloody waste of skill points. Want to be a pure pikeman? Go ahead, you'll suck. Love how they wanted to get rid of stackers by forcing everyone to become a stacker. And stackers get access to other specials. Wow, totally negates any reason to be pikeman or any other melee profession. Should have just nerfed it into one profession and called it fighter.

Thanks for the Combat Nerfdate, I'm going to love going from being wanted in the group to an embarassement to the group. Looks I'll have to switch from field medic and battlewagon to either a pure combat template or a pure support template. I finally got the template that suits me and it gets flushed down the toilet by the CN. Guess wanting to be both combat and support is pretty lame post CU, you'll suck at both and end up healing yourself more than the team. I got a bunch of other issues, but I'll post them in the medic and doctor forums.

Any Dev out there actually play as a pikeman or did they add us in as an afterthought? I'm sure if there was one who played a piker, they wouldn't have screwed us over like this.

I understand where everyone is comming from as far as being a tank now rather than an offensive profession.
A couple of things might make the change easier:
1) We'll be a viable profession with a lot of cool stuff
2) We still retain Crowd Control, which is what a lot of pikeman wanted for our profession
3) We'll have a definitive role within the group (tanking + Crowd Control), plus pikeman will be valued within groups much more than previously.
The devs had to look at each profession individually and ask where they fit into the entire system. I had quite a few discussions with different devs at the summit about this change, and I tried to get us to be moved over to the crowd control area of the diagram rather than the tanking area. But, the general feeling among the devs is that we fit in much better as a tank first, crowd control seccond, and didn't fit the mold of a damage dealer.
I know this 2nd guesses the original statements by Lord_Pall that we were a damage dealing profession, but with a major change that the CU brings, we have to roll with the punches. I'm actually quite pleased with the way our profession turned out in the proposal, and I'm sure that there will be others who agree and those that don't.
Also remember that templates are now normalized at 250 sp. What individual professions you have before a completed template doesn't really matter, it's what you have in your completed template that does. Having pikeman will be great, but if you combine it with swords like they suggested, you'll have damage to go along with your defense and crowd control, a very nice template (but lacks range). Or, combine it with commando for a bit of range/damage. Or, Rifleman for range and extreme damage. There are so many more possibilities than before which really makes the CU shine imho.
But, I feel that pikeman (along with every other combat profession) received quite a bit of attention from the devs and will still be a great profession post-cu.

I'm actually glad to hear your comments on the whole Pikeman and CU. Personally I was wondering on your take of it and being that you said you are pleased with the changes that will happen it makes me feel a little more confident in Pikeman after the CU. I love Pikes and don't want to give the profession up. I like that you said we will be more valuable in a group than we are currently.

I can't wait for the testing. I have one question though. It seems that in all stacking tips they list a good combo of ranged and ranged or melee and melee. Are we going to be more effective if we stay within melee or ranged as opposed to mixing the two? I'm just curious about it.

I'm currently a rifleman/pikeman and love both professions very much. In fact I'm having the most fun ever with these two professions. I see myself staying this after the CU but didn't know if I would be hindering myself by doing this.

but we are'nt being screwed.

swordsman and rifleman have always been the dmg dealers, TKA has always been the tanker and Pikes should be about area attacks and support.

so DOTS are being taken out, should'nt make you any less of a pikeman or woman. if you think thats what pikesis all about then your not playing pikes properly.

The CU is needed badly so that people will get out of the "uber" mindset, PvP is all about who has the best weapons, most cash and highest stack defense.Thats just wrong. PvP should be fun for all not just those who can afford to buy all the tapes and the highest dmg weapon.

how will masterpike/master med/doc 4/4/4/0 be a waste of sp? in the CU you'll still be able to play this template and be just as effective although you'll have to drop master medic in order to cover therequirements for pikes.

I was'nt to sure about the CU when the info was there in bits and pieces but now i have read the new docs i'm all for it. it will make the game better and will probably get rid of those annoying players that everybody hates. you know the ones that afk grind the latest FOTM template thenbuy up all thebest stuff they can get for that template and as soon as they start loosing inPvP they cry for a nerf on the prof that beat them and then go afk grind out something else.

I cant wait to tank a pack of four people, who are gonna be running around with stun batons going, why wont this guy die. . . . its gonna be so much fun. . . . . . . .

Im kind of in shock that TK gets more defense than us, i figure training with a 6ft pike would make you a little tougher than swinging your hands around...............

The new twist with the CURB, is that if you want to be a damage dealer using a pike, pick up swordsman specials and use them with a pike in your hands.
