wow! talk about a pikeman craze!!!
Heck, if you play your cards right you may outnumber jedi by the next publish!!!
But honestly, I have been noticing more and more melee combatants as a whole on the servers. i could godays without seeing another meleetag (even back in the day tka were not all that common). It used to be rare for me to see more than one swordsman in a week, and now scylla is just lousy with them! I went to Coronet and there was 6 of them coming off the shuttle! SIX!! that is so many swordsman in one place its mind boggling.

totally agree with legwand.....pikemen on ahazi used to be quite uncommon....I mean....look at the player stats, the only thing lower then us were padawan jedi's...and that's only because there *were* none. hehe. But now, I run into pikemen/women everwhere I go.
Personally, I think there's 2 main reasons for the surge:
1) holos
2) Nightsisters. The loot that the nightsisters drop, usable for pikes, is quite awesome, compared to the rest of the sister loot....yes, the energy lance sucked (now it's pretty good)...but it's always had a cool visual. And you can't argue having 2 dots on a single lance isn't pretty cool
and lets not forget the legendary lance...albeit very very very rare. I think more and more people are seeing the dots from ns lances, and hearing about the legendary and energy lances...and feel it's worth grinding to be able to use them.
personally, I picked up pike a while ago, because going into kneeling or prone, and simply firing with my pistol go reallly boring. and randomly, picked up a wooden staff, and had 2 reactions during my first durni fight:
My jaw dropped...and then an ear to ear smile permenantly formed upon my face.

I agree. Holocrons made a lot of pikemen and some have remained, and also since the NS stronghold opened up, people have looted a lot of polearms. They either try to sell them for ridiculous amounts of money or decide to take up pikeman to use it. I don't think the legendary stuff is really a cause because there are exceptional and legendary weapons of every kind.

I just made Novice Pikeman last night, and looking forward to the rest! It looks like I got in on a good time for it. My first char was an artisan, but I wanted something a little different. Then I noticed I could use polearms, and I never looked back

Heh.
I am a noob pikeman on Eclipse on my character Randalinn.
Honestly I picked it up because it is hands down the coolest LOOKING profession.
I like the lances, I like the way the styles look, and I also like challenges.

well im from lowca, and when i see another pikey its like when smigel snatched the damn ring. i cant believe my eyes lol. my friends tell me to drop it and stuff but i dont see them hitting for 7000 in pve and 1700 in pvp
(when i actually hit) PvE is no prob its just the defenses you have to get around and making sure you dont miss when the oppourtunity presents itself.

You know, I've been seeing a lot of pikemen on Flurry, but none of them are people I knew as pikemen from the old days. And most of the old pikemen seem to have dropped it in favor of some other brawling class, usually TKA.

I agree with Moheb, the growth of Pikeman on naritus is frightening; rarer are those that of non-holocron descent.

I'm on Lowca as well. Yes. I did it as a Holocron profession, but after climbing through a few skill boxes, I love it. I'm definately keeping it. I guess the increase is a result of players such as myself who only ever picked up a Polearm just because a little blue box told them to, then found out they enjoyed it. As I near master, I can't believe I'm enjoying a melee profession so much. This comes from an ex Smuggler/Commando. Its very enjoyable meeting a fellow Pikeman. Most are very generous and helpful, even to those who intrude on their profession unwillingly. The only downside I can see to this is the increased interest in the looted Polearms. I can't win an auction on a decent NS polearm without having 15 higher bids, so I'm stuck with a less than decent crafted LVA, which I was lucky enough to find in the first place. If my next holo turns out to be something that requires me to drop, I honestly doubt it will happen. You've gained a new member to your community whether you like it or not

A few more on Tarquinas as well. Maybe 20-25 total including holo grinders.

I see nothing but Pikes on Starsider everywhere I go. Weird trend for a forgotten profession.
