This information was gathered from SWG Center and Alahkazam:

Attack Damage Delay Health Action Mind Effect
/melee2harea3 4 2.5 1.5 2.5 1.5 Area Effect + Lower Posture +Dizzy
/melee2hspinattack2 3 2.5 1.5 2 1.5 Area Effect
/melee2hsweep2 2 2.5 0.5 2.251 Area Effect + Lower Posture

Area3 does the most damage, followed by Spinattack2, followed by Sweep2. They all take the same amount of time to execute. Spin2's Action HAM costs are slightly less than Area3's, butHealth and Mind are the same. Sweep2 has the lowest HAM costs. Spin2 does not do a posture change. Area3 has a chance for Dizzy.

I have found no other information on differences yet. I rarely use Spin2 or Sweep2, so I do not know enough about them to comment. I use Area3 for multiple targets all the time.

What I can saySpin2 vs. Sweep2, you would use Spin2 to do more damage and Sweep2 to do a posture change down. Since Area3 does twice the damage of Sweep2, does a posture down like Sweep2, and adds a chance to dizzy on top of that, I see no reason to use Sweep2 except to reduce your HAM useage. The increase in damage of Area3 over Spin2 would justify the extra Action costs, plus Area3 adds two status effects over Spin2. Therefore, it makes no sense to me to use anything but Area3 unless you are concerned about HAM costs.

The only caveat I would put on this is that Area3 sounds to me like it isa cone effect area attack while Spin2 sounds like an all targets in range (circular) kind of area attack. And my experience with Area3 (all I ever really use of the three) seems to suggest that targets behind me or far enough around to my right or left do not take damage like those to my front. That would seem to bear that hypothesis out, but honestly, I have never experimented with it to test this. I will try to remember to do that this weekend. I have my doubts, though, that this will bear out because I seem to recall reading something on SWG Center suggesting that Ranged AOEs were cone effect and Melee were circular.

However, if it was true that Area3 was cone effect and Spin2 was circular, then that would be a reason to go with Spin2 at times. In situations where you were surrounded, being able to hit all targets at once with 3x damage vs. only those in a cone in front of you for 4x damage would be more useful.

I have a little more fencer to get and have recently picked up Dizzy2. Which has the higher DPS from Spin2 and Dizzy2 for grinding purposes?

An example for using this would be trawling a herd (maybe the right collective term) of Squills around me in the caves?

Cheers

Ehh the attack damage modifiers are in Raphayl's sticky.

But regardless I use Blind 2 and Dizzy 2 and rarely use Spin 2 simply because it doesn't drop a state often enough.

Cheers.

Great sticky. Seems that dizzy2 has the higher of the 2 damage modifiers. I'll go with that.

Ref state application with spin2, iaw with aforementioned sticky it does land blind as potent as blind1 and has a higher damage mod, maybe not as often though as you mention.

Thanks, ill try it all out as soon as i get home from work.

Yea my experiance is that it doesn't land nearly as often. And in reality unless you have some god baton the difference on most high end mob in damage is so little that the more state landing chance the better, especially when it lands a state that makes you harder to hit.

I've played with the test center a little bit and was wondering, because I didn't see it anywhere, Did they completely remove area attacks and area cone attacks from the rifleman profession? if so, do they plan on putting it back?

Yes & No,

There are no Area Attack's in the Rifleman tree, they have been removed.

But if you have an Area Attack skill from another profession you can use that skill with a rifle from the Rifleman tree.

Rifleman gets no area attack specials in the CU.

To get them you either need Carbineer for the area specials or Commando where the weapons have damage cones.
