Thread: I actually LOVE pikeman they way it is!
I soloed Rancors (unbuffed)!!! Granted the force caves and NS aren't using force powers, but I can tank an Elder and Hunters (etc) until the armour hole bug raises its head. How, because I picked up some extra defences that we should have in our own profession tree. Granted we shouldn't have to do that, so fix it. However I have a gut feeling that if we get "fixed" within a day there will be nerf crys!!!
Fundamentally isn't it just our down to weapons? Everything but defence (and the PH3 multiplier/stance change) can be fixed by giving us new ones. Just give them different stats, some higher accuracy, some faster but with less damage, different damage types, whatever. Then everyone is happy, because the weapon defines how they play, not some half hearted patch that will lead to big time nerfing.

That's not fixing us, its just giving us more choice like everyone else.

I agree with you there 100%. In that thread asking about our damage output we don't talk about weapons. Your damage is based on your weapon and I'd like a greater variety.
Right now we have 4 slow AP0 weapons, a slow AP1 weapon and a slow AP2 weapon. I'd likea greater variety of fast medium damaging weapons and slow highly damaging weapons. I'd also like ALL of our weapons to have armor piercing.
There's precedent for that. Every swordsman weapon in the game is AP2 (even their noob novice brawler axe) with the exception of the Vibro Axe which is AP1.
However weapons does not explain the low defenses and difference in toughness mods that we get at polearms 3 and polearms 4. We get +4 and all the other brawler professions get +10 and we've never been told why.

Yes, I agree with you our defences do need increasing.
I can kind of see why a lower toughness is justifited. We can do a lot of damage to quite a number of targets, quicker than a swordman can (without skill tapes). A lower toughness is kind of a trade off. Personally since I increased my defences by dabbling the toughness has never been an issue. I would rather not be hit than having thicker skin.

There is a large difference between being able to solo and being able to do absolutely 0damage. There are classes that can solo her and other elders, who we can do no damage to.

That has nothing to do with how the pikeman profession is, its down to not have the weapon to do so. Hence, its a weapon issue.
Take away the weapon (in question) from any other profession and they'd not be able to kill her either.
Easy answer, just give us weapon choice. That's not a fix, its adding content.
I am an 'apprentice pikeman' on Starsider blowing through Novice on Gualamas and Shaupauts on Naboo... and I absolutely love it. I nearly made a puddle when I took on 3 red con shaupaut huntersand downed them with some timely spin attacks and traps. (Going for pikeman/ranger.)
And I like what I see in pikeman as the profession progresses. I'm actually really excited about it so far! ![]()
