Thread: I actually LOVE pikeman they way it is!

Try standing at a Rancor lair (buffed and at master) and spam a decent AoE and then tell me we have PvE issues. Same with the Geo Lab, post AoE bug fix and say we have PvE issues.

I soloed Rancors (unbuffed)!!! Granted the force caves and NS aren't using force powers, but I can tank an Elder and Hunters (etc) until the armour hole bug raises its head. How, because I picked up some extra defences that we should have in our own profession tree. Granted we shouldn't have to do that, so fix it. However I have a gut feeling that if we get "fixed" within a day there will be nerf crys!!!

If you like pikeman the way it is now....why odn't youlet us get fixed, and then you can usea wood staff or something when we work right.

Yeah, I know. We need some DEV love!!! However, I sence not seeing any is more of an issue than than having skills, etc "fixed".

Fundamentally isn't it just our down to weapons? Everything but defence (and the PH3 multiplier/stance change) can be fixed by giving us new ones. Just give them different stats, some higher accuracy, some faster but with less damage, different damage types, whatever. Then everyone is happy, because the weapon defines how they play, not some half hearted patch that will lead to big time nerfing.

weve got it kinda bad in pve too, a lot of the stuff that drops any of the good weapons for us isnt able to be killed by us (mostly high end nightsisters) i was even in the janta cave the other day and i noticed some of them had 100% resistances, and to what you might ask? kinetic and electricity of course :/


btw, the kinetic and electric resists were the only ones at 100%

Isn't that just down to weapons? Give us more variation and the problem goes away.

That's not fixing us, its just giving us more choice like everyone else.

I agree with you there 100%. In that thread asking about our damage output we don't talk about weapons. Your damage is based on your weapon and I'd like a greater variety.


Right now we have 4 slow AP0 weapons, a slow AP1 weapon and a slow AP2 weapon. I'd likea greater variety of fast medium damaging weapons and slow highly damaging weapons. I'd also like ALL of our weapons to have armor piercing.


There's precedent for that. Every swordsman weapon in the game is AP2 (even their noob novice brawler axe) with the exception of the Vibro Axe which is AP1.


However weapons does not explain the low defenses and difference in toughness mods that we get at polearms 3 and polearms 4. We get +4 and all the other brawler professions get +10 and we've never been told why.

Yes, I agree with you our defences do need increasing.


I can kind of see why a lower toughness is justifited. We can do a lot of damage to quite a number of targets, quicker than a swordman can (without skill tapes). A lower toughness is kind of a trade off. Personally since I increased my defences by dabbling the toughness has never been an issue. I would rather not be hit than having thicker skin.

There is a large difference between being able to solo and being able to do absolutely 0damage. There are classes that can solo her and other elders, who we can do no damage to.

That has nothing to do with how the pikeman profession is, its down to not have the weapon to do so. Hence, its a weapon issue.


Take away the weapon (in question) from any other profession and they'd not be able to kill her either.


Easy answer, just give us weapon choice. That's not a fix, its adding content.

The basic lance should be AP1, plain and simple.


The big problem is, we have two types of weapons under the "polearm" catagory, and both are very dissimilar. We have staffs, which are traditionally defensive weapons and very useful for blocking and deflecting incoming blows, and pikes, which are offensive terrors. The problem is that currently, the offensive ability of a person is determined by their weapon, yet the defensive ability is determined by skills given to their character. This means that if we were given the defensive abilities that a person wielding a staff should have,andwe switched to the Long Vibro Axe, we'd lay waste to a planet, and be thusly nerfed.


The only real fix to this is to seperate staffs and pikes into their own seperate weapon catagories. The pike catagory would have defense roughly equivalent to what we have now(with the exception of toughness being fixed), and the staff catagory would provide us with a much better block and melee defense. It could be done by adding unseen multipliers or whatever, as is done with Rifles now making their melee defense useless. Hell, if they wanted to "southern engineer" a fix, place a +25 block and +25 melee defense mod onto the RC/Metal/Wood staff schematics.

I am an 'apprentice pikeman' on Starsider blowing through Novice on Gualamas and Shaupauts on Naboo... and I absolutely love it. I nearly made a puddle when I took on 3 red con shaupaut huntersand downed them with some timely spin attacks and traps. (Going for pikeman/ranger.)


And I like what I see in pikeman as the profession progresses. I'm actually really excited about it so far!

I like pikeman, its a cool profession with tight animations, even as unoriginal or as rehashed from other profs as they are. With my comp armor, and buffs i can solo pretty much any creature, npcs are another story. I was destroying pickets with polearms 3. Which is all good and well, but i had buffs anda 500k set of comp armor. That right there makes any class uber. But pikeman has serious AoE problems. We can't compare to sowrdsman in this category and our dmg is pathetic. We need to either be high dmg or the best at AoE.... Not 3rd in dmg and 2nd in AoE, and 4th in defense out of the elite melee classes.
