Wishful Thinking Overview of the Pikeman Class

Definition
A Pikeman is a person wielding a long hafted weapon that usually ends in a bladed or pointed end. Such weaponry is reffered to as Polearms, by merit of their haft, and is seperated in various categories according to the specific combat role for which they are designed. In the hands of a Pikeman the Polearm, usually being a slow and cumbersome weapon, becomes the means through which valor can be attained. It is mostly common for a Pikeman to be standing in the midst of the fray, keeping enemies at check with well placed sweeps, buying her companions time to react to any foe. To that end Pikemen are almost always dressed in heavy armor and train in highly defensive tactics.

Role
A Pikeman is by definition a crowd controller as well as being the main "tank" for hunting groups. Her moves, while being slower than most of the melee warriors, are executed with utmost grace and efficiency, giving the Pikeman a very important part in victory. Pikemen excel in keeping the enemy away from the ranged warriors, with sweeps and quick jabs, while at the same time taking most of the brunt of the assault. Pikemen are seen as bastions of defiance and valor, with the highest devotion to their companions, for whom they are willing to sacrifice their very last drop of blood.

Armament
Armor: Pikemen are commonly dressed in the heaviest armor types, to ensure higher resillience to hits. I don't believe such things exist or would ever but I personally would love to see armor specialties for professions as well as seeing armor work in a different way so there can be armor categories for players as well instead of the unified AR1 for everyone. Perhaps expanding the AR system to five values instead of three: ultra light, light, medium, heavy, super heavy, with their soak rating being 25%, 37.5%, 50%, 65% and 80% respectively; therefore allowing players some variety as well as restricting the heavier player armors to certain classes only.

Weapons: Pikemen use all long hafted weapons with deadly efficiency. Combat Staves, Lances, Halberds and Spears should be within the Pikeman's reach for utilizing. Specifically the Pikeman receives the following weaponry for use.

Novice Brawler
Wood Staff, AP: 0, Speed: 3.0, Type: Kinetic, Damage: 15-35, Accuracy: +10, HAM: 15/20/10

Pikeman Special Abilities
> Can cripple opponent, unabling him to regenerate his pools.
> Can pin opponent, unabling him to move.
> Has longer reach area attacks compared to other classes.
> Has enhanced taunt ability with AoE effect that allows her to hold as many enemies on herself as possible.
> Can form Wall of Pikes with other Pikemen, unabling them all to move but causing extreme damage to assaulting enemies while increasing the defence of those forming the wall. Pool regeneration pauses while forming the wall and resumes after it has been disbanded.
> Can throw Gungan Javelin at ranged opponent, pins enemy in place on successful hit.

There, stupid or not, my ideas. Flame away.

My usual hunting team is a Master Rifleman/Squad Leader, Heavy Swordsman/Musician, and me (Pikeman/Doctor). I find myself up in the front the most, because of mycurrentcrowd control abilities. But more is definitely in order.

I like the Break Leg idea, sounds very cool.

I think we'd be good with an area posture down/dizzy or posture down/bleed (like carbineers have with ActionShot2), or something along those lines. I can't count the number of times I've said "dammit I need an area posture change."

How about an area KD? We have one of those, you know.

After using it once, I have to wait the 30 seconds before it will be effective again. And that's generally the longest 30 seconds of my life.

When the dizzy sticks and then the area KD sticks, it's pretty savage. Unfortunately, that's not the usual case with the higher-level mobs. With lower mobs where it does stick, they go down in a few hits anyway. And using it multiple times of course causes the KDed ones to get right back up...

I don't really know how viable an idea this is but what about some sort of AoE taunt....if we're the ones who are supposed to be front line controlling those crowds, we need something that will effectively draw said crowds to us rather than having them chase after our gunners.

I'd like to second that. Also, in addition to taunt, I'd like a detaunt as well for when I've drawn too much aggro, although this doesn't have to be AoE.

Edit: oops, Robogrowl mentioned the AoE taunt above as well.

1) Our KD's should all be the strongest in the game.

2) More toughness.

Other than that I love my pikeman abilities.

Posture change has the same timer. And swordsmen have an area posture change already.

Knockback: 2.5x damage multiplier, pushes the target back 15 meters (actually anything outside of melee range would be sufficient)

Area Knockback: Same as Knockback, but affecting multiple targets anda slightly longer delay
