Thread: Definition of Crowd Control

Ok.


For months and months, we've asked that Pikeman be the crowd control specialists. While we all may know that means specials like warcry and so forth, I think we need to go a bit more in depth and offer the devs a more definitive version of what crowd control really means.


So, use this thread as a discussion for Crowd Control. Please list and describespecials, abilities, etc that you would like to see in the pikeman profession that relates directly to crowd control. Please be as creative but also as realistic as possible.

I think that as a crowd control class, we really need something that will control more than one person.


We need a /legBreak or something like that which will disallow running for a period. Even allow a stimpak to heal it so it can be countered. Give it to us as an area attack that is pure state. No damage.


Being "crippled" would have the effect of intimidate, lowering one's defenses. States should last longer on a "crippled" person. That would give us an option for opening attacks. Cripple, then hit dizzy and kd, or go straight for the dizzy and kd.


I think /legBreak alone would help make us more useful in group PVP/E.

Just some ideas:


Mortal Wound:Area Effect. Inflicts a wound instead of dealing damage. In addition, this wound is so great that this player cannot be healedfor a set timeframe (10-20 secconds). Player is unable to meditate while the effect is in play.


Armor Blow: Area effect. This special will blow past one's armor completely. However, no damage is done from the attack. Instead, affected players ranged and melee defenses are reduced to zero for the duration of the effect.


Cripple (similar to above): Single Target Effect.Cripples a player, preventing him from movement. However, this player is still capible of fighting in place.

That thread really wasn't a discussion thread. People posted thier comments and left it, so there's a wide range of definitions and thoughts, mostly good but the scope between opinions was just too broad imho.


Istarted this thread so we could discuss and possibly narrow the gap between opinions.\


Note...the devs didn't ask me to do this....

Decapitate Sweep: area sttack designed to attack player's heads with stun or dizzy affect.

Warcry (on crack): Warcry that stuns an enemy or possibly dizzy's.

I know they sound far fetched, but like Gunman said, they are only ideas. They might affect the game too much to be implemented.

I see this as being the best at area attacks (in melee, at least. CM has everyone at range). Keeping an incoming attacker at a distance, keeping a group on their backs, keeping a group lit up with state effects, etc.

Overview: Pikeman are Moderate damage dealers, Great crowd control, Heavy Defense and Slow speed.


Crowd Control: With being a Crowd Controler, we have to have Heavy Defense by the mear fact that our 'job' is to manage multiple foeswhich doing so we will be attacked by multiple targets. In order to survie and actually do Controling we have to have Heavy defenses.


Now I want moderate Damage, and I will sacrafice Speed for that..I have no idea on the upcomiming changes with speed formulas but as they are now, Id say we should be a cap of 5.0 Speed, and 600 Damage on our crafted weapons.


Our attacks should be like this:

+ damage modifyers for single target damage hits

- damage mod for state atacks(dizzy, stuns ect..)


AoE attacks for damage have a + Damage mod but say half of that of asingle target attack.

AoE state attacks - Damage Mod higher than single target attack.


I grow tired of thinking maybe Ill edit this later for more crap..meh..

Cripple strike sounds sexy as hell... though Break Leg makes it sound a lot more nasty. Mortal Wound is interesting, I do like it. Armor Blow I have a feeling would elicit the "cry nerf" syndrome, even if it is very cool.


I also like the idea of making us a type of barrier. I'm honestly not even sure the game's engine could handle it, but being able to, say, swing our pike in an ark, and hold back an area of opponents... let us keep people away from the folks behind us.


Decapitate Sweep sounds ah... well, the same thing as Polearm Area 2. I assume, however, that by aiming for the head, you're looking for mind damage. Keep in mind that the devs have expressed an interest in not making Mind damage as potent as it is now in the combat nerfance. I don't believe that Mind damage should be anything we look into.


I vote Break Leg, Mortal Wound, and Armor Blow as the sexiest... and an area Break Leg would be very nice, as well.

Now i am not pikeman but i had a bud that was and he quit playing at least until they fix the game he said so since that i have stayed away from pikeman. I think that pikeman being crowd control is a great idea. I think that they shouldnt be able to hit super fast or do massive dmg but they should be able to apply status effects to massive amounts of people such as blind or dizzy or stun and also i dont if u alreaddy have this but i doubt it. I think u should be able to KD mutiple people at the same time it would be a great thing to have when fighting with a group. Everything pikeman has should be less dmg than other professions attacks but have an effect that is applied with the dmg and be multi-targeted. Just some ideas though hope u like them.

We all know we need some extra defense in order to be crowd controllers, can't deal out dmg to a bunch of people with taking some. It seems lately thatmost of the melee prof's want to be the new tank once the CB comes to play, but instead though of just giving us some added defense makign us tanks, we get should area defense allowing for a new type of tank.


Area Defense: maybe a +5to +10toughness modifier added for each opponent were fighting at the same time (with a cap of course) , or just a flat bonus for any fight with over 2,3,or 4 people.
