Thread: I need 10 questions to ask the devs

1. What role do you see us playing in the combat system, when solo and when grouped?

2. What's with the lances? They look so dumb when you hit with the handle of them. Can't we get good high level staff-like weapons?

3. What makes us unique or special, when the Swordsmen can attack an unhealable pool, the Fencers can apply tons of states, and the Teras Kasi can regenerate their wounds and remove diseases? Right now our special ability is being the swish-master.

4. Will we ever be worthwhile without having to rely entirely on Master Brawler and stacked defenses to keep us alive?

5. How do you see this class fitting into the context of the GCW? Not "you're a fighter", but specifics about what kinds of roles we're designed to play.

6. What the hell were you thinking with Holocrons? There were few good melee weaponsmiths to begin with, and now trying to find a decent polearm in my galaxy is a nightmare.

7. How much does the small population of the Pikeman class impact decisions on what to do with our problems? No evasive answers about everyone being considered equally important, because that's obviously untrue.

8. Why does a gimped profession with limited roles such as the Pikeman cost the same amount of skill points as a thoroughly flexible and extremely powerful profession like Teras Kasi to master?

9. Why can't we be treated like Oriental-style polearms users instead of being treated like untrained medieval spear-wielders? In other words, why can't we operate on a mechanic of speed and agility rather than being the "1 hit for every 3 sword swings" slowpokes(which, by the way, is a historical lie - even European-style short spears were VERY fast weapons when used competently...)?

10. We're not your wives, so why are you always trying to screw us?

The Imperial Guards are Pikemen, and there are a number of lancer types even within the movies...

I am aware of the Imperial Guards looking like pikemen. What I wonder is why. Is it purely for ceremonial reasons (SW Universe consistency, not the Swiss Pikeman in the Vatican precedent - which, btw, I believe carry submachine guns these days, which sort of makes my point) or is there a serious combat strength? If so, what?

Someone has also mentioned the use of vibroweapons in ship boarding parties (ie close quarters combat), although I do believe that the extended universe precedent was an axe rather than a pike.

Back to the questions:

A) What is the rationale for the longest weapon type having the shortest range? (support for a previous question).

B) Can Imp pikemen become Imperial Guards and get the cool robes? (justification enough to become a pikeman even if we do suck)

C) Have you looked at all at the historical origins of pike weapons and their combat strengths and weaknesses and linked that at all to how the weapons are used in SWG? (please say yes).

D) Another vote for the "is Dev time and priority allocation proportional to population in a particular profession? If so, you do realise that this will eventually drive all players into one profession configuration. If not, then it's certainly the impression many of get.

Good to see that they're asking questions though. I think this isa great game that sort of lost its way - perhaps in focusing too much on the trees and not enough on the forest.

That'll do for now. I'm repeating most of the questions and mangling metaphors.

Watch ROTJ and you will see a bunch of polearms. The force pikes aren't used in combat, but the Royal Guard do have a pistol and a double-bladed virbo lance as their main weapons.

1) This may be addressed in the new combat pass but can you please fill in this blank dev., fencers don't hit too hard but are defensive, heavy swordsman hit very hard(in an unhealable pool) but aren't defensive, unarmed fighters seem to hit quite hard and also have good defences(along with the meditation tree), pikeman.... BLANK!!!! (if we hare neither the fast nor strong nor defensive, what are we SUPPOSE to be exactly)

2)Can you give us any ideas as to the willingness of the developers to give pikeman the ability to be part of the emperor's royal guard at the cost of skill points to be "better pikeman"(perhaps a smaller parent tree beyond master pikeman). If indeed there is no category left open after the ones I've noted in question one, let me propose the following.... we be given stances to promote defence AND offence, but are unable to do both at the same time. For instance, the guardman wishes to protect the property or individual from attackers... he then assumes a 'defensive positure', taking agro from enemies, unable to attack them, but not taking damage, and PROTECTING something... once the 'thing or person' is protected, we now may obtainan offesive posture, able to attack with some proficency. How viable is giving pikeman a distinction through this different approach to melee combat?(seeing as the 3 categories of traditional melee combat are filled already)

3) As a pikeman I see a duality in our professions make up, given that there are two schools of thought with use of long offensive weapons, Ex, the staff and the lance. While our auto-attack moves appear to be 'lance-type' movements to which we are prodding an enemy, and our weapons are slow and probably meant to be powerful like 'lance-type' weapons, our SPEACIAL attack moves seem to suggest the former, a 'staff like, spinning attack'.... Developers please make a decision as to what we are suppose to be, the oriental style "bo" attack pikeman, or the medival knight "lance" attack pikeman. Starting as a pikeman we are given staffs of wood metal and reinforced material, as we get more skill we are given lances... please clear this up once and for all.... developers what are we suppose to be?

4) Answering the first of my questions may answer this question, but given that our HAM cost is very high, our ranged mod for our weapons is horrid, our weapons are slow and our power is nothing compared to a heavyswordsman.. and that our finial move has only a 3x modifier, why would anyone actually become a pikeman, and given that these problems have been around since day one, is there any surprise our class is so poorly populated. When is the pikeman profession going to get the time and attention it needs to be as interesting and saught after as the other melee professions.(people tend to go towards the effective professions in combat, whatever 'works' in killing someone or someTHING with proficiency.... note the population of pikeman... now think about what profession needs time and attention.. if a profession is populated, that is because it offers something... clearly pikeman is missing something)

ANY of these questions you can ask, I'd LOVE to know the answer to... just make sure that what questions we ask are CLEAR.. and leave no hope for the yes no or maybe answer.... AND .. sorry about the royal guard question.. but darnit if that wouldn't be cool, maybe a question number 10 if you run out of things to ask besides, 'why don't you love us, what are we and fix if you idiots'

4 Professions are being allowed to ask 10 questions.

We are one of them.

#1 Given the amount of neglecting the pikeMan community has received, why is it we are asked to bring forth ten questions? Are you all too lazy to actually go into the forum or talk to our correspondent?

#2 Our correspondent has put a great deal of his time into this profession and does a remarkable job, so why do you feel the need to go ahead and completely ignore his posts and create the inConcept forum thread asking us all to post our issues AGAIN regardless of our correspondents effort to bring this forth?

#3 For how long do you plan to ignore our pleas for fixes?

#4 Do you intend to fix the KnockDown bug(rendering our most powerful hit kinda BROKEN), or is this considered "working as intended"?

#5 Block???

#6 4m AutoAttack range???

#7 At master pikeMan level, a weapon given to us at brawler level is more powerful than the pikeMan profession certified one. why?

#8 Given the fact that we got two special attacks which are almost the same(spin & area), do you see any reason to have this changed into something more... shall we say productive?

#9 How is work coming along with our professions definition?

#10 Will you continue to focus your attention to one or two professions, neglecting so many others, or do you intend to widen your range?

Well Shutout, I think that gets a little more complicated and more detailed than what they're expecting to answer.

I can add these though:

Do the devs agree that ourlow toughness and defense mods need to be fixed? If not, why?

How will our current extreamly high HAM costs be fixed?

When the combat pass is done, where will we stand in the amount of damage we do? For example Rifleman>Carbineer>Pistoleer is a given. We're not sure who's supposed to be doing more damage in the melee classes though, swordsman or pikeman.

that sounds absolutley great to me. and yeah, it is hard to tell where we stand as opposed to the ranged elite classes. still, its usually the slower the attack speed, the higher the damage output. guess we should take it from there.

I prefer the finality of yes/no questions:

1. Was the creation of the Pikeman profession a mistake that you wish would go away?

2. Will you switch the certifications of the LVA and the VL?

3. Will you give us polearm-specificdamage mods akin to unarmed damage?

4. Do you think that giving us Nightsister loot polearms was anything but a diversionary tactic?

5. Will there be a marked increase in the quality of loot weapon enhancements (vibro motors, rancor teeth) to compare with the wonderfully valuable Krayt Tissue?

6. Are there plans to make Pikeman a more unique profession, perhaps with profession-specific techniques akin to meditation?

7. Are there plans for more Developer attention to the Pikeman Profession forums in the form of posting?

8. Will there be a competitive place for Pikeman in PvP?

9. Is our current Correspondent so horribly lacking in feedback and participation that you need to poll the Pikeman community rather than listening to our Representative?

10. Do you really think that being one of the four "specially chosen" professions for your 10 questions is going to give us any amount of hope that our profession is seriously being considered?

Ok. We've done you another favor. It is about time that we get a Developer in here who is willing to constructively discuss Pikeman, rather than asking us for another Cover Letter for our TPS Report.

WE GOT THE FREAKING MEMO.

1.) WHAT WERE YOU THINKING/WHY DID YOU LET THIS PROFESSION BE SUCH CRAP FOR SO LONG?

2.) whats in store for us?

3.) what is your idea of what we should be?

4.) can we get some better communication with our profession?

5.) our loot is great, how about making our craftables a little better damage?

6.) Why no attention since launch?

7.) any plans for an elite elite pikeman profession, mounted or not?

8.) what kinda new weapons are coming for us?

9.) any new skills like area bleed?

10.) thanks for this opportunity, did you finally realize that pikeman are broke?

The pikes with DoT's were our proffesions only hope. Yes, the swordsman mind bleed stack is gone whitch people are happy about. But, pikes only chance in PvE(remember im a wookiee) was the bleed and we cannot stack it anymore, but then the pike with dots, yes people who werent even brawler used them but that will be fixed so ty for that, but anyways the pike with dots, that was our only chance at pvp if we even pvped at all. Can we expect a deathblow to the pikeman proffession in Feb.?

Many of our specials are bugged and cost way too much.

How can a guy with razors on his hands have the same range as a guy with a big stick?

We all saw the Colts beat the really good cheifs, offence wins games, defence wins championships, WE CANT EVEN PLAY THE GAME. Why?

Our damage is very low, why?

Our accuracy....need I say more?

The speed on our weapons are too slow, when we use knockdown by the time he gets up, we havent even done one attack

TKA can dizzy knockdown and have very powerful attacks, and yet can still self heal, still self buff and they can cut incap time inhalf. swordsman can solo the crystal caves(prolly fixed now with unstackable dots). As a pikeman(remember ima wookiee) i cannot even solo 2 moutian squills. Do the Devs see a problem with this?

More than once ive seen pike correspondent after correspondent post after a big patch and we have been ignored "We are a known issue and will be primarily fixed in the next release". this has not hapened. I would like to see more out of non-TKA melee classes, prolly not the swordsman either, but im not sure about their powerful mind bleeds with the jan. 22 updates. We need to be more 'tank' like, also, us pikeman arenot looking to be the greatest proffession in the galaxy, look, noone was tka during the first few months of release, but now, at least all good pvpers have meditation 2 or 3 to heal wounds. pikeman just want to be recognized as a good melee class and or at least a melee class, and not the butt of every pvp joke. what is the devs take on this?

Soviet, Master Pikeman-WanderHome-

Pikeman : The only class that couldn't hit the ground if they droped their weapon.
Pikeman : Doing massive damage; to the air surrounding our target.
Pikeman : You're dead meat, unless you happen to be standing in front of us.
Pikeman : Because the devs were one profession short.
DEVs : Pikeman? Thats a class?
