Thread: From your correspondent: Top issues for Musicians
You want it? Spend the time like other people had to to play it.
As for the having to play with lowest common denominator types? Either play the easiest song or don't invite them into the band. Tell them to go play in a dive and earn their chops.
Is this a welfare system? Its realistic to expect that newbie musicians can't play complex songs.
You all want it so everyone can play the harder songs? What is the point then of becoming a master.
I like that is difficult. Take away the work and its too easy and it'll get boring to people.
I think they way they did it is great. It kind of models the way it is. You all want to make it so anyone can walk up and play with the people that have paid their dues.
Beyerun, u dun get it man. It's not about us or the songs. It's about the people listening to em. Many of us Masters are so held back from our true potential. I dun mine sharing the fruits of my wealth. Why shouldn't you? And if you dun want to play a higher song so the newbies can't, then don't. We have the choice, they don't. We weild the baton, they dun. You dun have to be there all day, maybe a few mins. I do that all the time, get in the band for a bit. Every1 goes wawa over my nalargon and ommni box then I'm off with a blaze of firespray. Trust me, they'll want u back.
It will give the newbies an incentive to work towards Master so they go "Oh! When I reach Master I can command a band too! Neat!!" I'm sure they hate the dribble that is SW1 as much as we do.
Dancers and musicians are not hurt because the Master Entertainer has access to a stringed instrument and new dances. They are hurt because their players chose to branch out into non-entertainment professions instead of focusing all their skill points into entertaining.
Those who take the master entertainer/master musician path make sacrifices to do so--not necessarily with time, but with skill points. Yes, you can play the mandoviol, but you can't walk to your friend's house without running for your life from bandits that would make smuggler/musicians laugh as you killed them in one shot.
What benefit is there to the average player of a mandoviol? You won't get xp any faster, you won't heal people any faster. It won't make you more likely to be invited to groups, and it won't make that path to Master Creature Handler any easier. It doesn't boost your action regen, and it doesn't guarantee better tips. Game balance is not the issue.
The mando is purely about sound and status, and it is a perk available only to those who chose to be entertainer focused rather than becoming a bounty hunter or smuggler who also plays the organ.
I believe that there should always be a real benefit to specialization (in this case, the specialization is toward entertaining). If other starting profession masteries don't have nice perks, they should get them. The beauty of having the unique instrument is that you can play it all the time, and it just screams "Master Entertainer". Ceremonial is nice, but I usually play it solo because none of the musicians can play it.
The mandoviol is a great perk and makes it worth it to focus on performing. It's noticeable, different, and adds flavor to being an entertainer. Please don't try to get it taken away or cheapened by adding another instrument that sounds the same just so you can go tame creatures too. Instead, hit the surrender button if you can't stand it anymore; it doesn't take that long to get dance 4 and ID 4.
There is no way this issue belongs in the top five. I mean, we only have 8 flourishes? Eight! That's like ad-libbing in a jazz combo with only 2 major scales.
Regards,
Bener
1. Allow musicians to earn the ability to play the Mandoviol AND Ceremonial without having to master entertainer by earning it later in the musician tree.
2. Like someone else said, lower octaves and pitch changes for higher level crap.
3. If you could enable /group autosplit and it would auto-split the tips. Most people don't realize that everyone in the band IS COMBINING to heal them, not just the hot dancer they are /watching. This is where autosplit would come in...
4. Like someone else said, instrument power ups. They should be able to change sounds and add flourishes and whatnot but only be temporary.
5. I really like the "allow novices to play with masters as long as they don't start the song." That is incredibly fair and logical.
6. The ability to follow certain people's lead (a subgroup). Just target the player and type.. /follow ...
7. Fixing /bandflourish so EVERYONE gets XP!! It sounds great but only one guy gets XP!
8, 9, 10.. everything everyone else said.. ![]()
Excellent post Bener. You can't do everything that you may want to do in this game with one character. You must sacrifice things in order to get other things. Put a little effort in, stop complaining that you have to get 4 boxes of ID and dance to get another instrument and song. Stop macroing your way to the top. Work for what you want. Or don't. ![]()
Take the simpler route and change the description of Master Musician to take away the phrasing about having all instruments and music. Only a professional entertainer would take the time to learn how to play the Mandoviol. Those who focus only on the musical aspect of entertainment don't have the flair to play such a fine instrument.
If we (the few who earned Mandoviol properly) are going to lose that distiction through sheer volume of whining, then pull the ligting effects off the Dancer and Musician professions and sprinkle them through the Entertainer profession. A Master Musician wouldn't necessarily have any knowledge on ligting effects or pyrotechnics. A Master Entertainer would know all about such things. Replace that branch (in Musician/Dancer) with a branch of skills that boost Mind pool regen rates.
On a different...note.... Let instruments decay. Let me repair them. Let me have a reason to make an instrument every once in a while. And grant some appearance customizations. Some minor color variations would be nice.

Keep the rabble entertained.

way to go wik. I'd love color variations in instruments. Especially something big like the ommni box and nalargon that could really bring out the different colors.
Here's a couple things I've been kicking around myself, being a master musician/master entertainer/master image designer:
1. Make a Grand Master Musician position just above Master Musician with very elite only stuff, instruments and songs! This could work for all advanced professions, not just musician. Make it so you can only have one Grand Master title, say by taking the last 51% of the remaining skill points needed.
2. The ability to have an entertainer only theme park. I want to go to Jabba's palace and run through the missions but can't because of lack of skill. If the theme parks where tailored to your profession, that would be great! So if you talk to Reelo at the front door as a musician, you get gig missions, but if you talk to him as a scout, you get destroy/delivery missions.
Just my two credits! ![]()
1. allow the group to play any song the band leader can play -- *please* for the love oflight no more SW1
2. did I mention I'm SICK of SW1?
Issues:
- Fix bugs.
- Fix bugs.
- See above.
Wants:
- Remove Mandoviol, Ceremonial, Footloose 2, and Formal 2 from Master Entertainer. Put them into the professions they belong to
- Add a group tip option
- Make autoAFK spot and tag people who are not interacting with the client. If they are not flourishing because they are carrying on a conversation or something on a channel I can't see, fine. But if they just started playing then went and watched tv, tag them.
- More songs. I'd like to get at least one new song for each box of skill
- More flourishes. I don't care if they use existing animations, but new sounds would be great
- More, More, More. Instruments, songs, flourishes, stuff. Anything, just more of it. Ok, not more bugs. But anything else

If I specialize in musician, I should not be punished (being unable to play an instrument/song, the core of my profession) because I didn't generalize. It should not be the case that I had to learn how to style someone's hair to be a better musician. I shouldn't have to know how to play a kloo horn in order to do a formal dance with skill. The benefits of mastering entertainer should not be things that apply toadvanced professions that don't rely on mastering entertainer. Find something else to put there, and give the Mandoviol and Ceremonial to the musician.

Thanks for your post, LordAmber. But don't you think they should fix bugs? ![]()
And Hawaii, I have two thoughts for you. First, I'm in Hawaii myself right now, on vacation, so nice name.
Second, I used to hate SW1 too -- until I got the mandoviol. It's my favorite tune on the mando -- the only one on which the mando sounds like an electric guitar. With mando, nalargon, and bandfill, the song rocks. The horn parts still don't do it for me, though. ![]()
