In regards to the play-lowest-common-denominator-song, I would suggest a change as follows:

Allow the band leader to pick the song that plays out of all the songs he has learned. And anyone can join in, even if they don;t know the song. HOWEVER, only people who know the song can /flourish to it. A low level player that joins such a group can only play the background, unflourished accompaniment.

What this would mean is that new players could jin high level bands if they want, just to see what it is like. And still earn some form of xp (would still get ent healing xp). But in order to advance your low level music skills, you wouls still have to play with a band playing low level music.

Raymundus' idea is similar to mine and, though I'm still fond of the tambourine idea (I'd like more percussion in general), probably could be implemented much more quickly. It's still a good compromise. In RL it's not that hard for a novice musician to pick up a basic repeating riff, melodies and improvisation are the hard part. Add an upper limit to what you can "accompany" without flourishes (ie. novices can't join in on virtuoso) and you've got bacta, ie. a good immersive solution.

I wonder if a lot of novice entertainers would mind playing just the rhythm of the songs and no flourishes... They wouldn't get any musician XP, so it's a lot like it is now....they can dance and get Healing AND dancing XP, but with that proposed solution they would be playing with no flourishes, therefore getting ONLY healing XP. It would be cool, I agree...but I wonder if we still wouldn't feel obligated to get these novices some XP. They will never be able to play new songs without the music XP.

I still think the best solution is that any musician CANjoin any song that is being "led", and they can flourish for XP, but they will still only get the XP valus of their instrument.

For example, a new musician joins up with a bandleader who is a master musician. Let's say he's playing "waltz". The newbie musician, can join in with the Waltz on his slitherhorn, but still only gets flourish XP for the slitherhorn value.

I don't understand why you want a grouptip.. When I play there are usually 5 other Musicians there and all of them are afk.. Are you one of them and thats why you want grouptips ?

The only problem I see with that, or maybe, one problem I see with that straight away is that it enhances the problem we already have of everyone always playing their highest instrument. I've been in a cantina band with 5 Omniboxes. Now, in a 20 man group you will have duplication of parts but five drumsets was actually hitting the limits on my speakers, they were fuzzing out from distortion on the bass hits.

1) Should allow all members of the band to play the highest song avaiable to anyone in the band. Or combine the healing lines, and make a conducting line, that allows you to share down more and moresongs with experience.

2) Obviously share tips.

3) I agree there needs to be a stringed instrument in the musician class. Maybe not the mandoviol, but at least one. There should also be a bass (or two) instruments. Granted master entertainer should get something, but I struggle to see why hairdressing, and dancing should give you an instrument, that can't be played even at master musician. What other kinds of bonuses could a master ent get? Why should the real master entertainer benefit be an isntrument and not a dance, or not a hairstyle?

4) I think omni and bandfill should not do the bass track. There should be bass instruments.

5) I want to be able to play marching music, even if it does nothing. I'm not sure turning the musician class into a bard class is the right thing (actually almost certain it's not.) But being able to play during more activities, especially the long boring ones would be nice.

6) You should get the exp as if you were playing your highest song, regardless of which song you are playing.

7) You should get the exp as if you were playing your highest instrument, regardless of which instrument you are playing. (What happend to arrangment?)

8) Each instrument should have a distinct voice.

Okay, so I don't get out much to the boards much, but welcome to you and yours, NewJedi, and hopes to keep on gigging for the fun of it.

As Weibacca, I now have reached the cap of 900k music experience and 500k entertainment experience, so if people don't say I play music for the fun of it, its their own private joke. =D

I guess that is my first question to the devs. What do I do with all this excess experience? Trade it in for new songs? Trade it in for the ability to heal BF in camps? Okay, so those are 'alternate experience items' ala Everquest, but it makes an interesting concept.

Anyway, for the top five issues:

1) Fix the /changebandmusic command so it doesn't bug everyone.
2) Fix the size change bug on Wookiees so they don't become ewok size while sitting in a chair while in a music group and the bandleader does a /bandstart. This is repeatable and its why I don't sit in chairs.
3) Change the timbre on instruments so that when you have a bazillion (you'll get this word frequently from me) slitherhorns in a group you can hear the other instruments.
4) Bring back the /bandflourish ## (instrument) - It seemed to work for a while, but seems broken now. Trubakka couldn't flourish me on just the Nalargon last time I checked.
5) Make the cut and paste of song macros easier to send to fellow band members.

Those are the top 'bugs' I can think of.

Feature adds:

Well, more music is good. That makes it worth being a musician even more.
More instruments is always good too.
Instruments with sockets would be a cool concept, so I can make a Music Heal Nalargon I can carry.
A split money with group would be well worth it. I know it saved many a hassle in EQ at times.
Put the gig mission terminals in soon. =D

Tip of the day:

Visit someplace new. Attempt to make bus fare to go home without asking for it.

Keep on gigging.

Thanks for your post, MasterWei. For what it's worth, I've now posted my first Correspondent's Report in a separate thread in this forum. I'd encourage you and all other Musicians to read the report and post comments on in that thread.

1) allow us to make our own songs play notes make a song save it to datapad and sell them or trade them to others..this would be a great new economy!

2) allow us to not have to do stupid or unliked flourishes let us tuen on and off waving our brests at people or playing the instrument with our feet or mouth

3)Gig missions at the door of every canteena where we take a mission get paid to play for X ammount of time in that canteena the ammount of pay based on the length of the mission and the skill of the player

4)allow us to do bandflourishes and play lesser songs without a exp penility the way it is now if you play with someone else you haev to downgrade your playing to the lowest member adn if you bandflourish you get no exp just the person who hit the bandflourish........ this dosnt stop people from unattended playing people still do that all it dose is make it harder to play with others and force us to play the most advanced song wiht the most advanced instrument not what people like to play or with who they want to play with ot play a varity of songs and not the same one all the time!

5) if #1 cant be done then add more songs let us find or quest and trade for some songs ... the more songs we can play the happer we and everyone who listens will be .... we want to be happy and keep playing and you want us to keep playing so its win win..... playing notes and making our own songs is best becouse thats an endless ammount of songs people can trade and sell and share adn enjoy but if not then add a bunch more songs the more the better!!!
