"Well, when TH reads that question, he'll probably say something along the lines of "If you're like that, there's no point in me answering any questions at all" "

Andhow exactlywould that be different from what's happening now?

Since June 2004, running one of the game's first completely nonviolent characters. Testing the limits of non-combat MMORPG play and trying to have fun into the bargain (although the developers make it difficult).

Combat is no longer compulsory.

Ifwe ask that question (about rewarding buffbots), they'll only give the answer that anyone would have to give:

"Anyone given an award was doing something to merit it at the time. We appreciate your concerns in this regard, and we are deeply committed toimproving all aspects of the game, but SOE is not responsible for the actions of a player after the receipt of an award. Thank you for playing Star Wars Galaxies."

Asking this question will get us nowhere.

I would expect that answer on AFK buffbots if it wasn't for the fact that at the time of the badge being awarded the player was AFK!

The question we ultimately want to make clear is whether the devs do want to eradicate or promote AFK buffing. Once they confirm (yes, confirm - I have no doubt this is the answer) they don't like AFK, then we have a foot in the door to give worthwhile suggestions to help do so.

I want this cleared up now because I'm a DE and saw the problems when the community didn't get it clear with the devs the views on high-end combat droids. (IMHO they misheard us, but if you can be misheard that is a failing).

The fault in my 'logic' was correctly pointed out in that a CSR awarded the badge in contradiction to dev policy. We need this made clear to the dev's so we can move forward.

For what it's worth, we Correspondents have already raised the question of badges in the Correspondent Forum. I had planned to start a thread on it but someone else beat me to it.

It doesn't look like our question will be due for a little while yet, so keep em coming.

The Devs have on several occasions given lip service to the idea that long-term AFK macroing is not what they wanted or intended. Of course, they have done nothing to discourage the behaviour which to me means they are passively encouraging it.

Also, questions about AFKing professions have been asked in the past and the answer as near as we can get after they finish beating around the bush is that they think all the AFK problems will be solved once the Jedi Quest system is in place.

I don't see how anyone with half a brain could possibly think that the AFK problems will just magically go away with publish 10. AFK problems existed long before the hologrind started. Unless you mean that they plan toactively fix the problem once the Jedi quest system is in place.

I like Warryr's idea of mentioning the AFK badge and yet proposing a solution like the Gig Manager. That would be my vote.

Beery, we're talking about the people who introduced the hologrind to begin with, we're talking about the people who refuse to believe there's anything broken about our professions. You'd think that people who dealt with computers all day would have a good deal of logic, but sometimes theirs seems to escape me. No, I'm sure that once they've stopped the hologrind they'll consider the problem fixed. I know we had the AFK problem before the holocrons, and stopping the hologrind won't do a thing to discourage buffbots, but they just don't see these as the problem we do.

I realise that you know these things. The thing is, I just cannot believe the developers can be quite so stupid as to think that something that was well known to bea bigproblem well before the hologrind came into being will disappear with its demise. If we're dealing with people that dense, then I would see no point in eventrying anymore. We may as well accept that these folks can never understand enough to make positive changes.

Okay, just to throw in another possibility for the weekly question. How about we ask the developers this:

"What is the official policy regarding players who prevent AFKbuffbots from working by inviting the buffbotand then spamming stopmusic?"

Wouldn't that kill two birds with one stone? I mean the developers' attitude towards buffbots isimplicit in the question. Plus, if the devs are against AFK activity, then surely we'll get the go-ahead to actively stop these things.
