This is a repost from another thread of mine I inroduced today, so I apologize if it is a repeat to some:

So, based off of another thread,I am very interested in the numerous and always empty outdoor locals where stages, instruments, and PA systems are present.

Certain Cantina's, as I am sure you will agree (Theed as an example) can be so overpopulated at times. Many bands playing at once, many dance troupes shaking their groove thing.....it's a sea of Avatar's often so crowded you lose track of who is saying what, who is leading what, etc.

So why are the outside stages not utilized? There is often a Omni-box, a Nalagron, mic & speakers, and plenty of dancing room never used. Is it because only certain Entertainer XP can only be gained within the confines of a Cantina or Camp? Can you only have your Mind Battle Fatigue healed within a Cantina or Camp?

I think it would be beneficial in numerous ways to hold oudoor concerts:

  1. Less congestion within overcrowded cantina's.
  2. Spreading the Entertainers around a bit other than one location.
  3. Allows non-entertainer players a reason to visit other parts of a city.
  4. Musicians who can play an Omni-box or Nalagron don't need to have one in their inventory....they are already present and free to use in these locations.
  5. Add to the feel of an alive city and Star Wars ambiance...Imagine walking out of a Starport in a major city, and as son as you walk outside you are greeted to quite a musical/dancing show!

So list your idea's, issues, concerns to break up overcrowded Cantinas and spread the Entertainer profession around a bit.

Maybe a weekly concert series? An actual band that can attract groupies who travels from city to city, planet to planet...perhaps sponsered by a guild or a PA. Maybe Dev's can introduce an incentive to play in these locations (Better XP?, Quest fulfillment? Ent. Mission Terminals?, More static artwork or deviced to interact with?)

I want to hear from you...

It sure would be nice if a few more outdoor venues worked as healing areas, like the ampitheater at Vreni Island on Corellia. In fact, what first attracted me to Musician was a street band in Mos Espa in beta. They had a full complement of Musicians, some lively dancers, and fun patter with passersby. I watched just to watch, not for healing.

Gah, those were the days.

In order to spread the entertainers and have outdoor concerts attract people heres my idea. Have Musicians who have aquired the tech tree be able to craft speakers. As you went up youd get better ones with a bigger radius that people need to stand in. A problem this could create would be, all Trade traffic, all doctor buff traffic, all entertainer traffic, and all passer by traffic could be put in the same place such as in front of the coronet starport. This would possibly create incomprehensible lag. Where the lag already is pretty bad.

Salporin_Wookie wrote:

heres one I brought up before. How about a "fame meter"? It could be hidden to the player, but the more gig missions you run, the more fame you collect. The more famous you get, the more reaction you get from the npc crowds.

Example:

100 gig missions - rank of "well known". A few cantina NPCs notice you when you walk in. Wave and pay attention to you when you play.

200 gig missions - rank of "celebrity". Nearly all NPCs in cantinas notice you and shout out relevent text. "Hey! Theres that Musician I've heard about! Lets go listen!"

300 gig missions - rank of "famous". NPC's in cantinas go wild when you come in! "There's %%! I've got all his holos!" NPCs on the street recognize you and ask for autographs.

400 gig missions - rank of "superstar". NPC's start following you to cantinas and cheer and dance when you play. Major NPC's (jabba, the emperor and luke and leia) generate special missions inviting you personally to play for them.

1. you need to keep doing missions in order for your fame to keep up
2. You could use "fame" points to hire NPC musicians.
3. These would progress from some crazy idiot on a slitherhorn to Max Reebo
4. Also the lower guys may add the same flourishes etc to your preformance the higher guys could add new flourishes and possibly vocals like the people in Jabba's Palace
5. The option to hire them would be on the same screen as the accept mission so you could only hire mission appropriate people, whatever that means

Ok I had this idea while doing my musician thing.

forgive me if some one else mentioned it already on this thread but I do not have the patience to read thru this extremely large post.

The titles of the musicians are not justified by the abilites.

Composer- would imply that the musician would actually be able to write or compose a piece or music. I think this would be a great for game play. How hard would it be for them to incorporate a fruity loops stlyle mixing script into this game. We could actually write our own songs and flourishes. I think it would rock and musicians would actually have fans for their talents. Maybe even just a way to spice up the songs we already have and give it our own taste.

Mesmerizer- being a musician is hard enough as it is in the wild outdoors being incapped by friggin durnis to where we do ot need some sort of sick joke of a melee/ranged defense bonus of 7.....There is an illhumored dev out there (likely several of them) . What on earth warrants this defense other than pity for our profession? I suggest some sort of a lullabye where we can "Mesmerize" MoB's for a certain ammount of time concordant with the characters mesmerizer tree skill lvl. as the musician progresses in lvl let the "charm/mesmerize" having a higher chance of being sucessful. It could work so long as the creature hasn't been attacked yet....I am not saying give it to them to put mobs to sleep while players are unloading blaster bolts on them I am saying do this to give musicians a break in the wild. If you are aggroed you could simply start music with this particular ability and delay the actions of the mob for so many seconds and then have a roll to see if the target loses interest in its target.

I dont see any SWGmusician ever being rightfully referred to as a Virtuoso in the current state of the game. Virtuoso implies that the musician was proficient with a musical instrument with out the help of any others almost to a natural extent as a child and right now

a) we have no children in game and we are nto children

b)we have to spend countless hours waiting for some one to come in with mind wounds

c) we have to seek training from others.

these are my thoughts riddicule what you will but thats ok because that means that you actually gave them some serious thought

Yet another AFK Pop-Up idea, or not!!

(Posted this under dancer forum first, but it applies to musicians, too.)

I think that you should be able to send a "dismiss" message to other dancers/musicians by using the radial menu. It could have a creative name like "Invite to Jam" or "Dance Challenge". If you were dancing, you would target another dancer and issue the Dance challenge. It could send a code to the other dancer - maybe a 6 digit number like the harvesters send when you want to redeed them.

The challenged dancer would have to type in the 6 numbers and take on the challenge. (Maybe they would get 3 chances to type in the numbers in case of a typo.) Once they entered the number the 2 dancers could have a dance off.

If you didn't type in the numbers, maybe there would be a 5 or 10 minute time out. During that time the dancer that issued the challenge could not challenge any other dancers. After the waiting period, the non-responsive challenged dancer would have their macro stopped and be removed from any group they were in. Maybe they would get a second box that popped up "you lost the challenge and have stopped dancing" while that box remained up, you would have a "macro block" on you. After whatever the default AFK timeout is hit you will be sent to the login screen.

Maybe the AFK macro professionals could create macros to beat that system. (A control macro that restarts the stopped macro every ten minutes.) If this is the case, maybe they could be disconnected. (It seems fair that if you have been issued a challenge, are running a macro and don't respond in 10 minutes, you are effectively AFK.)

Besides, I think dance contests and jam sessions would be fun! There could be some criteria for winning and the winner could get a big boost of XPs. Faster XPs through challenges would encourage people NOT to be AFK!!! Maybe just add the challenges and skip the AFK issue all together?

I think an automated system that would actively monitor who was in every static healing venue (cantinas, theaters...) and present that information to entertainers on-planet. It would be annonymous, listing the number of people playing, dancing, and audiance size.

Stage Props:

I'd like to see the ability for stage props to be crafted by entertainer classes. These items would be placed in the same way as Ommni Boxes and Nalargons so they could be placed in public places, to enhance performances. We could have simple props in the dance/musician line of entertainer, and in the tech lines.

Oh and please allow us to put things on player theatre stages.

Create a new type of group, called a "band".

While in a "band", the leader is now the "bandleader" or "maestro" or whatever and has a couple of extra abilities that would make concerts and the like MUCH more effective.

1.) Regulate tempo -

Basically, this means that the bandleader could speed up or slow down the music of the whole band. If there would be a problem with sliders and lag and whatnot, even an ability for "slow" "medium" "fast" and "very fast" seems interesting. There could even be a 30 second pause between all tempo changes if they're worried about people rabidly changing the tempo. And as only the "maestro" can change the tempo, the group would still sound congruous.

2.) Change keys-

For the non musician types:

Keys are a pretty vital part of the "mood" of your song. Minor keys often sound bluesy or even very very sad, while major keys are often happy, celebratory, or just normal. In addition, key changes occur in almost every single piece of music you ever hear. Britney Spears? Stravinsky? Hendrix? (Okay, britney isn't really music, but we'll move on.) Basically, the pitches of the notes all get moved up or down the same amount of steps.

And for those of you that think this would be impossible to code:......... it wouldn't. There are so many FREEWARE music engines out there from college students and yes, even high school students, its insane. I have four on my computer right now, and once the notes are assigned a value and the if/then commands are written, it can be a piece of cake. Music theory in its simplest forms is just Math, Math, Math. Getting the code onto the virtual world might be a different story though, but I think its about some time entertainers had the ability to add a little spice and variety to their performances!

I think that the devs should throw out the current system completely.

Have you all ever been to the bestine catina and sat in the little room with the speakers, and listen to the ambient music playing there? THAT is what musicians should sound like.

Musicians should get as much creative freedom as possible. In order to do this they should play real notes. They can then string the notes togther to form there own unique songs. Every note for every instrement should be available.

Well first of all this is an RPG game, and as such I have a back story. I have since become "famous" and as entertainers do become famous; their lifestyle changes. SO I have a large house. Larges houses as you may or may not know take up 6 lots. Player cantinas/theatres take up 6 lots. hmmm... problem. Solution! Change Large houses and player cantinas to 5 lots each. If you own your own cantina becuase you're famous enough to have one, why not have the money to have a large house as well?

If that doesnt work I think they should change the player cantinas/ theatres altogther to have a basement, second storyor "backrooms/dressing rooms" so that you may be able "live and change" in your establishment.

Missions are a huge concern. I havent done them lately, why? there's no point. Payouts are terrible. It costs more to travel than the actual mission payouts. Idea! raise payouts! Another idea. If you are performing for a group as the mission most of the time states, why not give healing xp at theend of the mission. Based on your performance and flourishes you could gain 500 healing xp, and/or a bonus 1000 music xp.

Xp is really hard to gain and there is a lot to gain. maybe change the skill tree to lower xp.

And last but not least if you master the musician profession you should be able to use the madovial...

Thank you for the penny in exchange for my thoughts, im sorry i dont have change

Two problems. First, nothing in tha stops a musician from performing copywrighted material. You open a HUGE probability of lawsuit.
Second, not all of us have that good an ear. Throw in hologrinders and you'll have a looping five minute song of B-sharp.
Third, you remove the concepts of flourishes and learning new songs.
Fourth, I can't count.

This thread's so cool I finally decided to post although I don't really have many original ideas, just contributing support for some of my favorites :X

I really, really, really like the 'compose window' idea. Sometimes I like to reveal the 'base music' line in songs, and it can be irritating to get the pauses right.

I think the compose window would be a good compromise between the current system and 'let us write our own songs'. It lets us work with the current tools more easily without worrying about copywrights and such.

I also think the 'invisible when afk' is an excellent idea, as long as it has a grace period on attacking. Those who need to pursue their holocrons can do so, but it's more clear as to who's really at the keyboard and who's not, not to mention makes the cantinas much more visually appealing.

Allowing entertainers to post gig missions would be good as long as the following guidelines are given-

- Payment for them comes out of the poster's pocket, so cash exploits can't be done (aka friend posts mission with massive payout, arranges for other friend to pick up mission, rinse and repeat)
- You can only have one standing mission at a time

The whole fame system would be awesome, with holo-records being released and such (see the compose window stuff)...

Having decay on instruments and making them squeak horribly when damaged would be great, although we'd need to be able to make 'instrument repair kits'.

If we were to get one new instrument and one new song, I would like something modern and rock-y sounding. A new instrument a bit like an electric guitar (but not exactly of course. Something that reminds of teenage angst, but still stays within Star Wars limits) would be really cool. Putting both of them in would be a huge amount of effort, so I'm just speaking as if we can whip new content out of thin air There'd be a similar song sort of 'designed' to go with it (although it would be playable on other instruments, mostly as backup) that sounded like a generic rock-type song. The Rock we have now is ok, but sounds a bit weird and doesn't exactly sound much like the rock music we have now (Keep in mind I haven't ever heard it on the Mando).
