Lyreley, I apologize for not replying sooner; I didn't notice your post at first. Flourishing more often will indeed hasten the speed at which you buff. In essence, the game counts the number of flourishes you do, so the more you do faster, the quicker you buff. You can buff in as little as 6 minutes flourishing frequently but normally, or in shorter times by using macros. If you search this board, for example, you'll find references to a 3-minute buff.

The trouble is, some of those "speedbuff" techniques maynot be intended by the devs -- but the devs have refused to tell us whether any or all of them are exploits. My own opinion is that the 3-minute buffis OK, but the faster speedbuffs are exploits. But that's just my opinion. The devs have refused to opine.

Why apology? I mean, It's me that owe you a big thank-you.

But I still haven't figured out why I was buffing will/focusby 50% each, and how I could double them. Please help. (/bow)

Hmm, you're a Master Musician and you're only increasing Focus and Willpower by 50% (instead of doubling them)? Hmm. You're not wearing anything that *lowers* your Musical Mind Enhancement skill, are you? What level do you have in that skill? Also, do you get the same 50% result if you flourish more frequently? Are your listeners wearing armor when they get buffed? That can sometimes mess things up. Make sure they're /listening and /stoplistening at the appropriate moments, too.

If none of that explains it, then I'm stumped, and I should either report it to the devs or ask for more input from players here, or both.

Great info in this thread answered a lot of my questions. I still have one yet though. Let's say I am performing for a group, giving a passive buff. Halfway through, somebody else joins the group. Now assuming I keep playing, they simply need to listen the "correct" amount of time, then they will get ubffed as well? Thx.

Yes.

In group, if they are listening to you perform before they join its like you did a /setperf at the moment they join. If they start listening in group, its duration of listening. Keeping track of the various times can be tough, but if everyone listens for whatever target time you buff for, they will all get the same buff.

Unfortunately, we currently don't have a way to tell when a buff is complete. We have it in our Top five issues, so hopefully it will be addressed (although I know better than to expect a solution anytime soon).

Hi there. I've got a question. How does one know when the buffing is complete? I've seen on this thread the average listening times as per skill level, but is there some way of knowing that the buff is through? I may be doing something wrong, but I'm not entirely sure. Any clarification would be great. Thanks!

As far as I know, neither buffersnor buffees are informed of it once the buffing is done. I cannot speak for the devs, but it seems to me they don't consider this inconvenient.

Pleaserefer tothe option menu, turn on the timestamp, and do the timing as you buff.

According to the gentleman who posted the quick buff macro on some websites, one needs to flourish 150 times to be 100% sure that the buff is maximized in duration. That, logical or not, has yet to be verified.

GREAT buff FAQ. Helped me to figure out why I couldn't buff in my theater.

Just a little question about the new time buff:

Does the patron has to watch 2 minutes then we can start the buff or does the two minutes are include in the buffing attemps?

2. The passive buff on one or more targets. If you want to buff multiple people, you can group with them and have them all /listen while you perform. You don't need to use /setperform. The upside is that multiple people can get the buff from you at the same time. The downside is that the buff is less efficient -- you have to play for 20 minutes or longer to get the two-hour buff.

this is pretty outdated
you can do a full length group buff in 4 minutes at master

Yes, this is true in practice, however, there are many things in the FAQ that are directly from what the Devs have told NewJedi about how the buffs are supposed to work, but have no bearing on buffs whatsoever. Examples include playing higher level songs or higher level instruments, or that per the devs, the longer you play the higher value the buff will be (up to the max). In practice, instrument and song have no effect on buff power, speed til full duration or what that full duration is. Also, regarding the "longer play to build up power", in practice all you ever need for full power is 1 flourish (though that would give very short duration and sound awful listening to it for the minimum 2 minutes)

This may be something that should be fixed, however, even though it is wrong, it may not be able to be changed. Simply put, there are some things in the FAQ because they are correct, and some things that are incorrect, but in there because that is how the devs told us it should be (even though its wrong).

I've edited this FAQ and the other general FAQ to reflect the faster buffing time that is now common. I've also revised the answers on the effect of instrument and song choice. The devs practically wrote that language for me -- those are their answers to questions I propounded to them. But since it doesn't work that way in practice, I guess it's time to revise it. Let me know what you think.
