Thread: Musician buff FAQ: version 1.5
Master Entertainer, Master Musician
Band Leader and Booking Agent - Frag's Puppies
President and CEO - Fragpuppie Enterprises and Uber Instruments
Coronet, Corellia, Chilastra
I found that there is a new Chef item:
T'ssolok
Increase the speed at which performance buffs are applied by 20% for 10 minutes
Yield 5, Filling 40
This is an excellent idea for addition to the FAQ. You and Fragpuppie have already summarized what I know about possible enhancements to Musical Mind Enhancement. I do actually have one such item (a tape, I think)lying around my house somewhere, but I have been too lazy to get a tailor to make it into something I can wear. Time to get on that, I guess, so that I can verify my own FAQ. ![]()
Anyway, I'll be happy to add a Q&A to the FAQ on this issue, but before I do I want to make sure I have everything right. Anyone else care to weigh in with further information?
You don't need a tailor to make it into something...it inserts into any socketed clothing item (except packs). Just drag and drop onto the item of clothing. You may need a tailor to make socketed duds however.
Beware though, if you insert a second tape of the same skill they do not add ANDyou lose the second item....well I did that and that's what happened to me...it may be a bug.
I don't think I have any socketed clothes, and my Player City lacks a tailor. As I say, I've been lazy about it. ![]()
MasterMeister, I think I looted mine off something. I don't remember what. Last week when my PA raided a temple on Yavin, one of my guildies found a tape of some sort in the bottom of the temple, as loot.
OK, so if you have 3 sockets, you can only drop 3 SEAs onto it, then?
What if you have a 3 socketed article of clothing and you have 3 SEAs on it, but then you get a better SEA. Can you remove one of the existing SEAs and replace it with the new one, then put your "old" SEA on a different article of clothing? Or, are you basically set in stone once you've placed an SEA on clothes?
As I understand it, it is set in stone. There is no removing of SEA's or Armor Attachments once they go on.
One of the new questschematics is an exotic leotard that enhances the Dancing Mind Buff amount+25%. But I don't know of anything for musicians. (**note to NewJedi: Ask for more musician quest items**)

I hear ya. I will.
Most other commands/skills are pretty clear cut. You don't have this confusion when getting doctor buffs. Why do we have to stumble around and do things that might or might not work?
What I want to see is "To buff you need to do A, B, C actions for, X, Y, Z iterations or durations." I want to see it from a Dev and I want them to be accountable when it doesn't work.
Don't get me wrong. I apprecate the work being done to generate these player made FAQs. I just feel that if a FAQ has to be generated by the players on a game system, something is wrong. I know this isn't the only system that we need a player made FAQ on, I just wish we didn't need them at all.
Signed,
A player that just wants to play the game.

Surefoot, I wrote the buff FAQ, but the devs did have a hand in it. They looked it over and corrected several mistakes, and they have since added its substance to the in-game Knowledge Base. So the buff is documented in SWG. Personally, I can live without complete documentation of very feature of a game like this; part of the fun for me is figuring out stuff on my own. But in this case, the buff is now documented, albeit rather late.
As for the uncertainties in the FAQ, they reflect the peculiariaties of the Musician buff, which works in a radically different way from most other buffs in the game. One reason no one (including the devs) can be precise about buff time is that the buff doesn't really measure time; it measures the number of flourishes. Because different people flourish at different rates, the "time to max" varies from one Musician to the next. I suspect another reason that the devs didn't want to spell this out clearly is that it would inviteunintended behavior.By way of example, some players have devised ways to buff in 3 minutes or less; it's doubtful to me that thisresult is intended by the devs.Tiaga and I have repeatedly asked the devs to clarify whether speed-buffing violates the Terms of Service or not. Until I get a clear indication that it's "kosher," I'm not going to change the FAQentry on buff times.
As for the group buff, again the FAQ reflects what the devs told me, but it's true the group buff doesn't seem to be taking nearly as long as it once did. (When it was on Test Center, the group buff took much longer.) I'll ask the devs whether *that* change is intended too.
