Thread: Musician buff FAQ: version 1.5
Yorgrim: Yep, the buff is needlessly complicated. I've repeatedly asked the devs for a better buff interface, but don't hold your breath. As for "recent death," sometimes the buff timer fails to reset if the recipient dies or crashes with the buff up. Also, the listener should type /stoplisten or use radial to stop listening; moving out of range doesn't alwaystrigger the buff.
Just some observations from getting buffs myself and third-hand knowledge;
Sometimes it's necessary to use /stoplisten first then select the musician and use the radial menu to select listen. Using /listen <playername> does not confer the buff. This does not appear to be necessary with dancers, so /watch <dancername> will work properly. Best practice I guess is to use /stoplisten first to ensure all goes smoothly. (Who wants to wait another 8-15min?)
I've been informed that while grouped, if you get a buff (/stoplisten) and listen again the buff will disappear. While I have not found that to be true in my limited experience, I'm sure it is true for others.
While grouped at least, listening for only 90 seconds can confer a buff of over 20 min duration (Master level is all I've experiemnted with). This seems pretty darn handy for PvP battles. As I haven't been able to experiment with this alot, I'm hopeful some analytical person will post their findings.
Please do not use the /stop command. It is not an abbreviation of /stoplisten. Instead it stops the entire band whether the person using it is an entertainer or not. (/bug)
Finally, please tip entertainers ridiculous amounts of credits.
Specially large wookiee types heh

Can be buffed a person that is overt or flagged? And if yes, can he be buffed only by someone in the same faction or by a neutral as well?
Yesterday I experimented a lot on this, and the results are as follows. I am a neutral and around myself in the AH cantina a lot of war was going on. So I could buff people:
that were TEF-ed
that were overt
and that were even fighting actively during the buff on the condition they started listenin before they were attacked or attacked others.
Buffs failed only if the subject crashed during the process and once when I dealt with a doctor who, before typing stoplisten, started to buff somebody else.
For you this may not mean very much as you have a secondary active profession. For me it was interesting because lessened very much frustration out of being master BE and master Musician. It's quite awfull when all your friends are fighting around and you are not able to lend a hand.
It's also interesting to see how a sympathiser - even if not part of a faction - could actively help his mates in this profession. As far as I know neutral medics and doctors cannot help TEF or overt players.

Overt, I was able to musically heal overts of the opposite faction but I have not tested this again since October.

Hmm, so neutrals can buff Overts. Can Overts buff Overts of the opposing faction? How about coverts of the opposing faction? I haven't been Overt in a while, but maybe I'll head over to Anchorhead, go Overt, and then try buffing an Imperial Overt friend. Er, if I can find one without getting killed first.

To add...
I have been able to buff whlie being overt (Imperial at the Imperial outpost), and have not had issues buffing other overt Imperials, neutrals, or covert rebels. (Most overt Rebels that show up there die a quick and painful death.) I haven't had any kind of problems with buffs taking, and I use either chicken horn, mandy, or bandfill to buff, and get the full duration/quality on both active and passive buffs. I only play songs from the musician tree (or ceremonial), and all work fine.
As for the ME/MM battle...all master "noob" professions have good bonuses that you can only get with that box. For example, master brawler is pointless in and of itself...but the knockdown it gives fencers is a big help to those working up the fencer tree. All elite artisans get bonuses by having master artisan as well, and so on. It's designed that way so that it's worth mastering ot have the skills...because why else bother doing it? While I love ceremonial and mandy, and it sucks giving up all the skill points for ID and dancing, it's worth it to me. My two credits' worth.
I just hope the new patch does something to make the cantinas fun again...I never go to the big cities any more, b/c they just suck and are lag city. /sigh
First, excellent guide - I greatly appreciate the massive amount of work you've put into this thread. Thank you!
Second, I'm looking for an FAQ to be built on improving buffs other than the standard out-of-the-box Master Musician buff. What I'm specifically referring to are:
Enhanced clothing
Skill Enhacement Attachments
Other types of tapes or items that can enhance a Master Musicians ability to apply a buff
Can you add that type of information to this guide or start a new guide? I've been a Master Musician for awhile now (Teia Deevahs on Starsider) but only was told in the past week that there are tapes you can buy that will make your buffs more powerful. Plus, I heard that you can buy clothing that does the same thing. I've been looking but haven't found anything great yet. I would LOVE more info, like what are the different items that can be found, what are the ranges of stats for those items, what does each percentage point do to the buff (like, +1 musical mind enhancement adds "x" minutes to a buff, etc)...
Thanks!
