Thread: From your Correspondent: Your top issues?
Ok, our wonderful corespondant asked for a short list, not a book, so here goes:
1) Make us more useful by: nerfing afk-performing, adding new songs, flourishes, etc; and by improving our healing abilities
This thread is very helpful, folks, so please keep 'em coming if you haven't posted here yet.I'mgoing to start a separate thread withmore focused questions about a couple of things, but I'd like tokeep this going. The devshave been communicating with us Correspondents much more frequently over the past few days -- in both the Correspondent Forum and on Test Center -- and I need your continued input so that I can accurately convey your concerns and suggestions.
Interestingly, people's priorities have shifted since I started polling for my first couple of top-five lists. Sure, some things haven't changed: I probably hear about the need for new songs and sounds more than anything. But other priorities have shifted dramatically: the most obvious example is that AFK-macro'ing is now the top issue for a lot of people, whereas it was hardly on the radar screen a couple months ago. Likewise, it used to be that I heard a lot about a need for /grouptip and finding ways to integrate newbs into higher-level bands; now I hear more about post-Master content, gig missions, and Ceremonial (though I know that one inspires disagreement).
Anyway, if you haven't posted your top issue here yet, please do.
- NewJedi, a/k/a Ricky Starwalker (Chilastra) and Richie Starsider (Test Center)
Thanks for all your efforts.
I'll try and prioritorize what my perspective is on need and do-ability.
1.) More Songs!
2.) More Instruments Especially Stringed instruments.
3.) More sound variations (especially on horns)
4.) Fixing ME so they dont pirate MM skills![]()
5.) Adress our viability in Hunter groups and Warfare. ie Possibly offer us a skill whereas when we play in a combat scenario we reduce ham costs for the groups. Possibly a damage add.
6.) Possibly put a timer on AFK whereas after 30 mins no exp is gained, and make AFK unable to disable. Cantinas are overrun with AFK performers lessening the need of people actually playing the class. This is a growing issue and will only get worse. This greatly lessens out viability and credibility.
7.) Group Tipping.
8.) Better Entertainer/Musician Missions.
Once again your efforts are much appreciated. Songs and Instruments to me are the most important.
Cheers!
my beefs are mostly with others:
1) Afk Macroing - Macroing is one thing, going afk and kicking in the macro loop is another. If someone leaves the group before switching leaders and the leader becomes someone who is afk macroing then you have problems, especially if there are people who want to get in group and cannot.
2) Instruments/Flourishes - Need more distinctive sounds for each instrument. Each instrument should have its own type of flourish: All the wind instruments have the same flourishes, the bandfill has 1 different flourish then the winds. The only ones to have different flourishes are the mandolin, the omni box and the virt.
3) Songs: these need to be updated bigtime...the rock definetly needs to sound like a rock song....folk should be a nice folk song ect. the Star Wars songs could be redone a bit, i do not know about others but SW2 gets on my nerves after 5 minitues of play.
Aidea for specific types of songs (rock, folk, cerimonial ect), how aboutgive the ability to call upa sublist of 5 songs per. ex. cerimonial you can choose between wedding, funeral, march, ect. For rock give us any 5 songs from the top 5 rock groups of all time...Aerosmith, Led Zepplin (we were kicking around the idea of being able to playStairway to Heaven last night heh) just to name a few....rock songs that Jam.
Another idea, when we getMusic Knowledge 2 we do not get any songs...why not Pop as a song choice and give us a decent pop song?
Auraveda, the trouble with player-created songs, even MIDI-style on the keyboard, is that a "public performance" of a copyrighted work is an infringement of that work. If you tap out "Hey Jude" in a crowded cantina in SWG, you're probably violating the rights of the owner of that song. It's not just the Beatles' recording of the song that is copyrighted; it's also the song itself. And the song includes both lyrics and music.
I've talked to a number of copyright attorneys about this issue, and I myself am a lawyer, though my field isn't intellectual property. Without exception, every such attorney has told me it's unlikely that Sony would ever risk being accused of profiting off a game that provides a forum for copyright violations. Yes, peopleinfringe music copyright every day -- but Sony, a major holder of copyrights, is not likely to condone or in any way support such violations. Yes, we can already violate copyright by typing in every page of the latest Harry Potter book into /say chat, or by /singing all the lyrics of a song in a crowded venue. But Sony isn't likely to want to expose itself to any more liability than it has to.
Don't get me wrong -- I'd love to make my own songs too.But I'm not optimistic about it.
Anyhow, NJ asked for our #1 issue guys, not books:
#1 Issue: Deal with AFK'ers & Bugsbefore adding new content.
I said it before and I'll say it again until I'm blue in the face; there needs to be a system in place that will allow Novice Musicians (to include composers and Master Musicians)and Novice Entertainers to play higher level songs together. As we all know, the system constrains the group song to the lowest level song within the group. Therefore, MM don't get to play the higher level songs they earned while grouped with newbie entertainers.
My suggestion is that the group be allowed to play the highest level song if that song was started by the musician that is certified to play it. This is like a temporary group buff for lower level musicians and entertainers. A Master Musician can start Virtuoso, and the lower level musicians can simply join in. When the MM leaves the group, then the song stops and the next highest person can start a song they're certified to play.
This will keep everyone happy. As it currently stands, I'm tired of playing SW1 or SW3 in a group in a cantina. I'm now considering only grouping with other Master Musicians. This is terrible thinking, as musicians have always helped fellow musicians make it to the top. My idea will inspire up and coming musicians to want to continue to master their profession as they get a taste of what the higher level songs are like.
Please consider this idea.
Why are we so worried over ppl who are afk?!? Shouldn't we be more worried over getting our fair slice of the "SWG Pie".
How many of you have very few or no credits to speak of... no house to call home, find it hard to keep a house, or have to get a combat profession to make ends meet? I think ever single dedicated entertainer/musician falls into one of those three places.... So why not push for a reasonable way to make credits while being able to stay in the cantina/tavern/hotel and not have to rely on tips (yea those things most ppl don't get) to survive. They have already implemented mission terminals for entertainers (as crappy as they are) as an alternate means of making money. Why not improve that system so it actually serves it purpose? Well just my 2 cents but you get my point![]()
How about different colors/sizes for instruments? I'm a poor bothan that can't see over the top of my nalargon unless I'm standing on it.
The colors would be nice if your going for a different mood or need to coordinate with your band's uniforms.
Sure, more songs and sounds would be nice, but I honestly don't see those coming in a monthly patch release. Perhaps for the player city patch, or future expansion.
Caihsk Ahxi'lya -Master Musician, Master Entertainer -Chilastra
Anyway... if I can't have that, then I'd like more high level content. Interesting missions for entertainers that pay a decent amount of money.
The big difference between chat-created paraphrased songs and musically-recreated songs is that the former is just a function of normal MMOG tools while the latter would require SOE to specifically create those tools.
They could be held liabel for providing us ways to copy protected material.
However, I just had an idea, and am starting a new thread about it to see what you all think.
hmmm my top issues with this proffession are simple.
1. Song selection. Very poor selection over all. When compared to other professions we dont really getall that much.
2. Instraments. Ok so we get some nice ones but come on there are alot more out there I am sure.
3. Instramental Sounds. We need more distinct sounds for each instrament.
4. Flourishes(a). we need more flourishes make it where we can nearly fill both rows of an expanded hot bar.
5. Flourishes(b). make them last longer and do more impressive things.
6. Tips. I wont get on a soap box about this since others have but since this is our lively hood.....They dont exist really most players dont tip hardly at all and if/when they do its for 50-100cred
7. Missions. pfft they are a joke 10+min work for maybe 150cred when I can take a slaughter mission of kill 30 rills and make 2k+ it doesnt make sense
8. Having to keep nalgron and omni box targeted constantly to use them. This makes it where I can really interact with my audiance at all which seriously makes some ppl think I am playing afk when I am not.
9. Having to drop down to the lowest lvl song the youngest entertatiner/musician can play.
10. Not having a performing stage in cantinas.....come on these places in the movies had em why cant we?
11. Macro'ng. I personally do a macro'ng loop to obtain xp. But I also sit at the keyboard and chat and interact with people. I do afk macro. I do this so I can get the massive amounts of musician xp to skill up. Personally I usually sit in a corner in the cantina away from others and skill up there. So I dont detract from the ones who sit at the computer.
12. Fix problems with the system logging me off even when I am sitting at the computer interacting with ppl.
13. Better augmentations to our skill lvls.
14. Buffs that last longer and can do more.
Well I think I have thought hard and long enough.
Talk more later.
