Thread: Musician Correspondent's First Report July 29 please comment
Very well said Auraveda. That is somewhat the idea I had about making your own music. Have it as a trial and error type system with a set number of sounds and then the player chooses one it plays then he picks another note it plays so on and so on. They can go back at any time if they dont like the way one sounds until they get to the end and they listen to the whole thing and they can change X note for Y note if they want.
I think the hardest part would be the flourishes but it could be done.
Like you I also believe it would add so much to the game and there would be a real goal in getting Master Musician other than just getting a new song and instrument.
I just think (i don't know i'm not a lawyer) that it will either come down to a lawyer thing with the potential for copywright infringement cited or a coding thing like Holo said the coders were having terrible trouble getting it to go or hadn't even started cause it was too daunting.
-------
Bigest things that weren't on the list hmm.
Darnit i'll have to read the list again and post later, I forgot what you had already. But for now I'll say macro emailing at the risk of sounding silly.
As far as sounds, separating the bass line and the percussion for the bandfill and ommni would be great, and it would be enough for me.
Tips? I don't spend that much money, but I get enough from my tips currently. This isn't a big issue for me. I'd rather have flourishes and songs be separate issues. But the tip issue is big for some, so it should probably stay.
This is my last post for a while, as you have my 2 cents, and I'd rather be playing.
Regards,
Bener
Kora, I am a lawyer, and while my field isn't intellectual property, I'm still not sure why copyright concerns should preclude us from creating our own songs in SWG. The devs could have us give them sort of non-exclusive license for use of a song we created, perhaps terminable if we quit the game, perhaps not.
The more significant problem may be third-party rights. If Iupload "Hey Jude" without crediting Lennon/McCartney, that might not make the owners of that song happy. Yes, I can play "Hey Jude" in a bar, or in a band, in real life, without infringing anyone's copyright (I think). But if I record it and distribute it, the practice is to acknowledge the songwriters. I can understand that Lucas/Sony don't have the time to police whether we're uploading our own work or not.

Yeah, that's the copywright I meant. Maybe I said it wrong cause I'm not up on the legal side of music. I never took that music business class they offered. But that's what I meant, not us writing, that's always cool, but maybe a band getting together and calling themselves Metalica and giving concerts featuring Enter Sandman and Nothing Else Matters would raise some eyebrows. I wouldn't mind too much myself beyond the breech of starwarsy feel. Jabba did like the mosh pit tho. .....
Thanks for your reply, Kora. Yep, you're right, third-party rights are a valid concern.
Heh, I'd love to have a chat with the Sony/Lucas lawyers about this issue. When I get back from vacation, Imay do a little legalresearch on it just for fun.
well unfortunetly your and most peopls top five dont match mine
mine effect the most people and I think will do them most and longest ammount of good and fun
so here it is again as my post in the other one is so so far down
1) allow us to make our own songs play notes make a song save it to datapad and sell them or trade them to others..this would be a great new economy!
2) allow us to not have to do stupid or unliked flourishes let us tuen on and off waving our brests at people or playing the instrument with our feet or mouth
3)Gig missions at the door of every canteena where we take a mission get paid to play for X ammount of time in that canteena the ammount of pay based on the length of the mission and the skill of the player
4)allow us to do bandflourishes and play lesser songs without a exp penility the way it is now if you play with someone else you haev to downgrade your playing to the lowest member adn if you bandflourish you get no exp just the person who hit the bandflourish........ this dosnt stop people from unattended playing people still do that all it dose is make it harder to play with others and force us to play the most advanced song wiht the most advanced instrument not what people like to play or with who they want to play with ot play a varity of songs and not the same one all the time!
5) if #1 cant be done then add more songs let us find or quest and trade for some songs ... the more songs we can play the happer we and everyone who listens will be .... we want to be happy and keep playing and you want us to keep playing so its win win..... playing notes and making our own songs is best becouse thats an endless ammount of songs people can trade and sell and share adn enjoy but if not then add a bunch more songs the more the better!!!
May I suggest a test be applied to the top issues next time around rather than whatever was posted about the most? The test being, ask yourself "Is this a game play issue or fluff?". Sure it would be great to have more songs, flourishes etc. But when you get down to it they are all "fluff". /changeband , /bandflourish by idiots wasting all of another players Action even if /bandfl off has been set, /broken gig missions, a dancer in the group using /stopbecause its shorter than /stopdance and causeing every one in the band to stop playing and losexp, and things of that nature are gameplay issues. Don't get me wrong I would like to see the "fluff" added, but not untill the things that are broken now have been fixed.
Snorf
Snorf and Faydra, thanks for your replies. Faydra, a couple of things on your list were addressed, at least indirectly, in the first "top five" list. E.g., new songs (#2), and more attention to gig missions (#4). The ability to create our own music is on my personal top-five list, but most people here and in-game seem understandably resigned to the likelihood that it won't happen, so they didn't "vote" for it. Your other suggestions all have merit; perhaps others will weigh in on them in this thread. I think we chatted about some of your suggestions last night. My own homework: a little legal research into the copyright issues surrounding music-uploading.
Snorf, each gameplay issue you mentioned is important to me. (You'll notice that I exercised my Correspondent's privilege by adding a sixth item, on /changeband, that is a particular pet peeve of mine; it's related to your concerns about /stop etc.) And, as I said in my first report, my report's "top five" doesn't necessarily match my own personal "top five." But my job is to represent Musicians generally, and both here and in-game I hear first and foremost about duplicate sounds, the need for more songs, tipping issues, gigs, and newb integration. I do think the new patch, due quite soon, may eliminate one or more items from that list, in which case we can rotate in some new ideas. Which of your issues would be your number-one priority? How would you prioritize your other issues?
Thanks!

Maybe I'm wrong. The game designers should remove the bugs without us having to fill up our top five with reporting every single /command that doesn't work properly. That's what /bug is for I think, and most of us have /bugged the snot out of the commands.
I anticipate that the bugs that have been reported will be fixed whether we ask for them to be or not and that our top 5 suggestions will be taken into consideration as content suggestions or gameplay changes.
Gameplay changes that are not bugs would include the master entertainer/mandoviol debate, the noob playing higher songs debate, the deny services debate currently on the entertainer forum, the ability to compose our own songs, the ability to send macros to each other more easily, etc.
Content, or "fluff," would include things like fleshed out missions, more songs, more flourishes, different sounds for the duplicate instruments, more instruments, a player built "Cantina" building (i.e. not just a medium house with a flag for admission).
Ricky, correct me if I'm wrong on that. I thought bugs were to be fixed in the development forum and the /bug feature and your (Musician Correspondent) time was to be used for suggesting fluff and game system changes. Or fluffy changes.

And again, as he said, when group tipgets divided is NOT even much to care for.
10 CR, 20 CR, or even 50CR who cares? I don't!
I don't AFK because I am not social! I love being social...
I Also don't AFK because I am lazy, becauseI love doing Gig missions.
I AFK when I do it, because A) I am doing something else B) It takes TOO long to earn XP
Earning XP is MORE valuable to me, at this point, than getting a few worthless Credits.
And, on the same note, for those of you dislike I play lower form of music than yours... yep, how will I reach your level, if you single me out from the group?
That's just my opinion!
I don't know about you but I rarely get anything less than 100-200cr. People who do usually aren't my regulars or have been broke. When I get a 1500 cr tip, I don't want it split with someonewhohas been macroing for the last 15 hours with their "Please tip me! Thanks!" macro going every 5 minutes while they're off doing whatever.
What's the point of entertaining if you're not going to interact with people when you're playing? Oh my, it may take you longer to get to master, but if you don't have a regular audience who enjoys you being around what's the point of being master? When I'm afk, I'm not macroing, I'm not playing or gaining any xp from it, I'm usually sitting. Even if I'm grinding for xp, I'm there at the keyboard talking to people. I even think it makesCantinas more enjoyable for the visitors tobe interacted with instead ofwatching a ton of automated zombies playing music. That's just me though.

Hi everybody ![]()
I'm a master scout/ rifleman on another server, but I enjoyed playing music so much I started an Entertainer character just a few days ago. I'm pretty new to this profession, so please don't flame me if you think I'm bein stupid ![]()
I'd like to talk about two things: AFK players and player composition.
AFK Players:
Okay, I confessI'm one of these. I want to be a musician, not a dancer! So I run a macro when I'm dancing and leave my PC on when I'm at work or asleep. Because of this, I'll be a Master Entertainer after only three days of play. You can hate me and my kind if you want, but we're just trying to get through the poop to get to the good stuff ![]()
Having said that, I have some suggestions on how to treat us AFKer's... first of all... BOOT US FROM GROUPS if we're tagged as AFK for30 minutesor more (and, of course, immediately as soon as we go LD). This should be automatic, the group leader shouldnt have to worry about it. Also, as soon as we go AFK, we should be COMPLETELY unable to accept tips. Tips should go to people who are actually there. Also, the /tipband function, if it ever comes about, should ignore any AFKers, regardless of whether they're gone for a minute or half an hour. I think that would make things much fairer. I macro just for the xp, I shouldn't get any benefits an active player gets.
Player Composition:
This has been discussed a lot, by people who are more knowledgeable about music and have been playing Musician longer than I have. On the first thread you started, NewJedi, someone named sciguyCO (I hope I got that right), as well as others, put down some great ideas that I think might actually be implementable in the game. Terrific suggestions have also been put forth in this thread. Here's mytake (kinda pirated from several other people
):
On reaching Novice Musician or Novice Dancer, you get a Music or Dance Crafting Tool. You can use this to cut and paste together loops, in the manner of a program like Acid Music, or MTV Music Generator (both of which have really easy interfaces). You won't be able to upload your own music or samples... that would be chaotic, and raise those licensing questions... but you will have a 'palette' of samples to work with, which grows as you advance in Musician or Dancer levels. Then you could save the loop sequences as Music Schematics or Dance Step Schematics on your datapad, and trade or sell them... Wouldn't that be great? Also, by using samples, you won't actually have to know how to play music, you'd just need an ear for 'what sounds good'. I don't think the MIDI keyboard thing is a good idea, cuz, as someone said earlier, it would result in lots of sub-class music.
Hehe, one more thing before I stop babbling -- what, exactly, is a Master Musician supposed to do? They're not really equipped to participate in the Monthly Stories, for example, or the GCW... they're fun to achieve, but what do you do with Master Musician status once you get it? This really needs to be looked at... we need more content accessable to Entertainers (and ONLY entertainers!)
Thanks for hearing me out ![]()
..Oh, and congrats on your post, NewJedi! You're doing a great job ![]()
