Thread: Musician Correspondent's First Report July 29 please comment
I don't like the idea of being able to play your own actual notes. Too few people could actually play the music well enough for this to sound good.

I DON'T want group tips..usually all musicians except me are afk.. and thats why they want a group tip
Then use the regular /tip...
the choice between /grouptip and /tip
Isn't that hard, is it ![]()
Then again, I can't understand why the jealousy/hate against Afkers ...
You can dream about user created music all you want, but it will never happen. The legal issues are too great and neither SOE nor LA are gonna go that route.
All you have to do is look at the RIAA throwing out lawsuits left and right at file sharers. You don't think they wouldn't come after big bucks Lucas Arts the first time someone created a copyrighted song using the custom song generator? SOE and LA were very smart to say no to user created music given the current climate of the music industry.
Also, NewJedi, I think #5 would have been better as a side note instead of our #5 as it is such a split issue among the musicians. (btw, I'm am fully in the "hell no" camp for musicians to play higher songs than they have the skill for. It'd make me sick for someone without even Musicianship I to play virtuoso with me.)

Maybe because I'm playing the game and they are not?
Why do you even care?
Like I said many times, U are socializing aren't you, or playing a game? It's not like you are doing something you don't like.
Again, why do you even care what other do? Why you punish them by kicking out of the group, If not Pure childishJealousy?
To me, it's a funny outcry ...
Everyone pays $14.99, so if they don't have time to be at their computer all the time, Let them AFK!
Listen, I don't care if you macro unattended 24/7 if you're off in a corner of the cantina. I do care when you want in my group, and then you set up your macro and leave your computer to do whatever. That bothers me. That's why splitting tips bothers me. You're NOT entertaining if you are NOT at your computer. How hard is that to understand? You're just healing/XP farmingat that point, no, you're not healing/farming, your macro is healing/farming. Why do you even remotely feel you deserve a share of a tip to the bandif you're not even in the same room as your computer for hours on end?
Again, macro unattended all you want, it's your $15/month. However, on my $15/month you're damned sure not going to macro unattendedin an entertainer group where I'm the leader.
Also, it has nothing to do with someone going AFK to deal with kids, pets, doorbells, phones, food, etc. That's fine. It's those who join a group, then go AFK for hours on end we're talking about.
Thanks for your replies so far, everyone. Again, if you have any suggestions on how I should improve the list for my next submission, by all means let me know. E.g., it might be helpful if everyone were to post their "biggest issue that's not on the current list."
Cheers,
NewJedi (Ricky Starwalker, Master Musician, Chilastra)
And again, as he said, when group tipgets divided is NOT even much to care for.
10 CR, 20 CR, or even 50CR who cares? I don't!
I don't AFK because I am not social! I love being social...
I Also don't AFK because I am lazy, becauseI love doing Gig missions.
I AFK when I do it, because A) I am doing something else B) It takes TOO long to earn XP
Earning XP is MORE valuable to me, at this point, than getting a few worthless Credits.
And, on the same note, for those of you dislike I play lower form of music than yours... yep, how will I reach your level, if you single me out from the group?
That's just my opinion!
Content additions would always be welcome. I know the inclusion of the mando into Master E made me backtrack and get that line after becoming Master Musician. If they change that, I know a lot of people are going to drop Master E, so in effect cheapens it. And I'm sure the Master E correspondant would have all his people in an uproar over it too.
As far as song content, Trubakka was commenting about how he used to have his band 'Deep Funk' during beta develop content using the existing flourishes including the specific instrument version of /bandflourish. That way one person could 'lead' the band into the entire song. But, we've been researching ways to get macros like to and from each other.
I know the cut and paste feature exists, and involves custom keyboard rewiring, but not an easy way to scratch out a song and mail it to someone.
As far as layering sounds from instruments, this would be cool, but would need to know if its going to be more like looping samples or such. I guess the underpinnings are there for such, but how soon the devs get to it depends on how creative we feel.
From the list of the things fixed on Test Center, seems they squashed most of the major 5 already.
Til I get back to the boards..

Visit Beautiful Theed. The Lag is Strong in this one. We must be careful.
I don't think that playing live with one another is going to be at all possible. There is waay too much lag (I'm guessing) to make this any sort of real possibility. Also it excludes those who aren't actually musicians, and are just roleplaying one.
Here's how I see this working: Song Composition should be a skill one gets after achieving master musician. Once you become a master you have access to a song creation interface. This interface would allow you to create songs in the same format as the existing songs, an intro, and outro, background song loop, and flourishes. The composer would be able to write different flourishes and parts for each instrument, or specify which instruments play a part if they want more than one to play a line.
Ideally the user interface for this should be somewhat simple. Instead of real music notation perhaps some form of tablature could be used, or better yet a "piano-roll" style interface like one might see in midi-editing programs. The user could play the notes using the keyboard or draw them in with a click of the mouse and then listen to hear the results. An interface like this I think would be intuitive to learn and flexible enough that non-musicians could play with it and have fun coming up with a little tunes, but those with musical training could really get into it and create something quite complex. Also, since many midi editing programs like this exist already it may help cut down on programming time - the programmers wouldn't have to reinvent the wheel.
The composer should then be able to test their song, perhaps have a preview window with an NPC band playing the song with different groups of instruments randomly flourishing. This would give you an idea of what it'd sound like in the field, with players flourishing at will.
Because player created songs would have the same format as existing ones XP could accrue the same way, more flourishes=more XP. Also perhaps the composer could specify the level of musicianship a person would have to attain before they can play their song.
The finished song would kind of be like an object. It would have a serial number and and a composer name. It could appear in some sort of musicians personal song inventory. Other musicians would learn the song by having it taught to them (if they have the skill to learn it), in turn they could teach it to others. If someone doesn't like a song they could delete it from their inventory. Good songs would flourish, bad ones would die.
I don't see copyright being a problem really, all SOE has to do is put a terms of service disclaimer thing in there stating that players are not to use copyrighted materials, and if players do then they alone bear the legal weight of responsibility for their actions. Using copyrighted material would be grounds for expulsion from the game or some sort of penalty. Also, by making the players stick to the existing song format, and only use this special interface to create the music, SOE would be GREATLY reducing the likelyhood that someone would cheat and use an existing song vs. a system where composers would upload midi files. And if people do cheat and don't write their own stuff and they're caught, well, they've been warned. Saying SOE shouldn't include music creation because of potential copyright issues is like saying that one shouldn't sell guitars because one might play a copyrighted song with it. Oh no! THE HORROR!
Creating a feature like this for the musician profession would add incredible depth and greater opportunity for player generated content. The services of a great composer could be sought throughout the Galaxy for special occassions. Or perhaps really good composers could have their own bands or guilds form around them, and only members could play their songs. Nonmembers playing that composer's songs could find themselves on the wrong end of a blaster.
That was a long post I know, but it's an issue I feel very strongly about. I'd LOVE to be able to write my own music.
