Thread: Musician Correspondent's First Report July 29 please comment
Kora asked whether our top five lists are supposed to deal with bugs, or only with content and gameplay. The only instructions I have are to solicit the top five "issues" and "requests" from Musicians. I do think that a sufficiently serious bug could, in theory,be an "issue" in the top five.
As it happens, though, the Musician community seems primarily focused on gameplay and content issues: duplicate sounds, more songs, tips, gigs, newbs,narlagon-targeting. At least that's what most posters have listed as the highest priorities. Still, a fair number of people did list bugs like /changeband somewhere on their lists, which was one reason I inserted that particular issue as my "pet peeve." (Q has said I can add one personal "pet peeve" to my weekly list, but I'm going to try to include "peeves" that are shared by a large number of you all as well.)
WOW WAY TO GO HAMSTERFETT !!!
this has to be one of the best ideas I haev heard (except my own)
would have to haev a bunch a log a gaggle a slew of loops the more the better but being able to do this kind of thing would be great
I can see a contest for the best arranged loops or bits!
if not being able to do our own notes and make entire new songs this would be also super and allow us to make a large range of songs
way to go !!!

On reaching Novice Musician or Novice Dancer, you get a Music or Dance Crafting Tool. You can use this to cut and paste together loops, in the manner of a program like Acid Music, or MTV Music Generator (both of which have really easy interfaces). You won't be able to upload your own music or samples... that would be chaotic, and raise those licensing questions... but you will have a 'palette' of samples to work with, which grows as you advance in Musician or Dancer levels. Then you could save the loop sequences as Music Schematics or Dance Step Schematics on your datapad, and trade or sell them... Wouldn't that be great? Also, by using samples, you won't actually have to know how to play music, you'd just need an ear for 'what sounds good'. I don't think the MIDI keyboard thing is a good idea, cuz, as someone said earlier, it would result in lots of sub-class music.

would also like to add that if they had a bunch of flourish animations as well it would be mighty and allow a totaly new experence!
Great set of discussions.. It has changed my opinion a bit so thats the sign of a constructive thread IMO. The construction of our own music is important to me as a RL musician but the need to allow roleplayers to participate is also essential.
The solution is clearly best found in a library of 'approved' samples of varying levels of complexity attainable only as we ascend the skill tree. There could also be 'rare' or 'lost' songs buried out in the galaxy for us to find. the songs can be taught if others request them but the song will always be named after the composer.
First party copyright can be eliminated by TOS and the fact that all the samples are made by the devs. Third party copyright is irrelevant as the songs are 'cut and paste' from existing samples.
It would be good if we had an option to write for several different instruments and could test the pitch and harmony aspects but that is less important than just being able to write.
Thanks for the report and for the voice in representing the issues/concerns of the musicians
By the way.. being AFK while grinding xp is neither sociable nor is it playing the game.. it is just exploiting the xp system and much as you have a right to do so, with respect. please dont expect to remain in any group I am leading as I don't believe anyone who does this really gets why the xp system is set up that way.. If you haven't got time to play.. dont play. Interaction with the audience is essential.
defently the sampl system seems like a good anwser
no copyright problems and we can still make our own songs buy piecing strings togeather
if they add this and new flourishes and new flourish animations (some sedate some outragous)
then this would be professiosn tht a lot of people would love to play and listen too
gosh playing arround trying to make that great song
entering contests for the best songs
selling your songs and buying other musicians songs!
give a man a song adn he plays for an hour
teach a man to make music and he plays forever
and people listen for ever too ![]()
Segol, I really like your idea of lost and rare samples!
Also, Faydra and Segol, as I said in my earlier post... I completely agree that AFKers shouldn't be grouped, shouldn't get tips, and should be left COMPLETELY alone... I want to be clear that that is my opinion. I think I also mentioned that I only grinded (or is that 'ground'?) dance xp, since i want to be a musician, not a dancer, and i'd almost never dance when puppeting my character. Idon't grind music xp, I'm online and interacting with people while I play music ![]()
Oh, and I got Master Entertainer last night, hehe
Now I can focus on roleplaying my character, and I'll never have to grind again! yey!
