Thread: What is wrong with AFK Musicians?

My suggestion is to take this to SOE, because it is SOE that has created this monster.
.... Well we have but SOE has never even answered the first top five from when they launched the corespondant program so I doubt they will ever do anything... they simply don't care whatsoever about this class.

AFK ents ruin the industry... If you dont want to see the same flourishes over and over then dont do the profession cause it is the same forever. If its just because the cantina is empty... travel go play at camp sites do anything just dont go afk... You know its odd but he first 50 masters on my server (maybe more) went afk NOT ONCE! Weird how we all can do it and you cant... Maybe its cause we like it more then you and if thats so find a profession you like better.
fatwookie: we don't like your profession, we don't want to play your profession, we don't want your tips, and we don't want to sit at our computer for 50+ hours watching you bag on how lame we are.
all we want to do is get the master box and move the he|| on and trust me as soon as we master, that's exactly what we do.
Oh and my own opinion is that all AFK people should be made shootable if they are AFK skill animating, this goes for all professions not just the entertainers.
Sometimes I just leave our own guild cantina because people are AFK'ing there... Fun, not ![]()
Really the two aren't contradictory at all. Holocron is giving his viewpoint about what the game was meant to be, and possibly an indication of things to come. Jeassa merely stated policy that there is nothing against the policy to use in game tools while AFK. She didn't say those tools will never be changed to prevent it, just that right now they allow it.

Actually, SOE did voice on this... I believe it was Holocron that said it is not meant to be played AFK and that will be dealt with and later Jeassa totally contradicted this by saying people are free to AFK all they want and that SOE won't do anything about it.
If you want to grind, there are plenty of other ways that are much faster.

I am an AFK entertainer half the time I play. Why? Because it is the most efficient route to get to where I want to be. I wanted to be a master musician because my guild needs someone to buff mind and to lay down a cantina. I can't do that as a novice or at least not well as one. That was before I actually started to be a musician, though. I actually found it to be quite a nifty class after I got a bit into the entertainer tree. I mean hell, I didn't even realize that flurish's made you play a different series of notes (yeah pretty nooby of me). I was all, "coooool!" Now I want to get to master musician so I can get all those cool instruments like the bandfill and nalargon and to be able to play some of the higher level songs. Now I'm interested in the class but that doesn't make AFK entertaining any less efficient so I'm still gonna do it. I'll probably do it until SOE either disallows it or makes it less profitable than ATK entertaining.

First let me preface this by saying this isn't directed at you. I'm using your post as an example, because I think it echos how many entertainers are.
People do the AFK macro thing because they can. It's like if someone suddenly discovered a means that they legally didn't have to pay for groceries from the store. As soon as word got out, you can bet that people would do it, simply because they can. It's not that these people are necessarily bad people, they just see a way to do something, and they go for it.
If you take away the ability to gain xp while AFK.. Shockingly enough, most people will stop doing it. Of course, there are still people that would try and cheat the system.. (3rd party macro programs) But these people would be doing so at a risk (Suspension or banning of account) and so it wouldn't be nearly so common a practice as it is now.
Ill stop going AFK with my character when SOE end the debacle of having to master every profession to open the FS slot and also make dancer / musicianexperience a little easier to get. I don't enjoy standing around in the cantina for hours at a time doing 8 repetative flourishes in the hope of getting a couple of K of Entertainer healing!!
Sorry butI dont wan't to be an entertainer. I do want to be a Jedi and silent holo's are forcing me to master these 'brain dead' classes.
Sorryif this upsets you but i am entitled to my opinion like anyone else!
The answer isn't to make people lose exp when they are AFK. The answer is to make it so that those who are ATK gain MORE experience. This will encourage people who want to play a musician to spend more time at the keyboard in order to do so. However - those who just want to grind through it as quickly as possible will stay afk, because they simply don't have the mindset or patience to enjoy themselves in a non-combat situation.
SOE made an error in judgment with the Holos, in my opinion. I believe they thought that making people experience a lot of different classes would lead to a more balanced server population. But the reality is - that's just not true. It takes a certain mindset to play an entertainer, just like it does to play an artisan, or a pistoleer. Not everyone has the mindset required to play the entertainer class.

I agree on both counts. Make it so there is a benefit to being ATK. The humerous thing about the holos is that SOE probably thought this would help people experience lots of classes and have them stay their like you said. In reality people are just going to end up totally junking their regular character since it's going to be fubared after the holo extravaganza and they'll just focus on their jedi. Bad form SOE, bad form indeed.
if afk players were penalised, im sure it would drive MANY away from the profession, plus would mean there would be an increase of poeple with High mind wounds, high BF as there was no one there to heal it,
With the way it is, xp comes slowly, so you have to spend more time than any other proffession to get anywhere, being AFK helps this as you can do other things,
Hell some poeple just shove AFK on so they can chat, or to avoid constant tells for Buffs,
AFK musicians,
IM ALL FOR IT, ARE YOU?
