Thread: Cantina Tables and Chairs the key to ending AFK buffing?

This sounded complicated when I wrote it out normally, so I'll write an example of how it could work.

Lilo is buffing people using the new table interface.

Warryyr walks in needing a buff. Seeing that Lilo is busy buffing a table, he saunters over and, being the generous Wookiee he is, he enters 100k as his offer of payment if Lilo lets him join the table.

Lilo receives a popup asking if 100k is an acceptable bid for Warryyr to join the table.

Lilo agrees and hits "yes" which is not the default button.

Warryyr joins the table and gets his buff.

It's a simple way of giving the Entertainer power over who is going to get buffed, and uses a ui popup where the default button is to refuse the offer, so it is impossible to macro with in-game mechanics, and neither Enter nor Esc will allow the buff to go forward, so there's no setting heavy objects on the keyboard to AFK buff.

Does this sound like enough to stop botting while still being easy/fast enough for us to use?

Hmmm...sounds good to me

It'd be a nice way to control who joins the table mid-buff. Perhaps this pop up would appear before any person joins the table? Even when the Entertainer first joins the table and lets the first person join?

I'm down with your concern over someone weighing down a key or using a "drinky-drinky bird" to hit keys, or something weird lol. If people can use a stack of Post-Its and a "drinky-drinky bird" to defeat this system, they WILL

Haven't quite worked that out. What are your thoughts on that? That's a really good point.

I think Lilo nailed it, and it is a fantastic idea regardless of whatever system is used to initiate a buff. Get LeBob over here so he can send this up the stream to the Devs!!! (since we ain't got a Music Correspondent right now. I vote for Warryyr tho!)

Here's what I get from Lilo's idea, in nice numbered format (with extra goodies added).

  1. Buff system gets initiated (Warryyr's table idea, or some other system)

  2. Player needing buff makes monetaryoffer for buff in the UI

  3. Entertainer accepts/declines offer in the UI(decline is default, as Lilo so ingeniously came up with!)

  4. Player is now able to receive Entertainer's buff (which begins immediately if the Entertainer is already performing)

  5. Player receives a system message when the buff starts to take effect (2 minute mark)

  6. Player receives a system message when the buff is fully applied (whenever that is based on the flourishes of the Entertainer)

  7. Player /stopwatch or /stoplisten

  8. Player removed from buff system

  9. Player is buffed and happy

  10. Entertainer is paid and is happy

I think this is such an improvement over the current system, that I would probably actually put up my Master Music tag and buff people!

o Not that I care so much about that personally, but TH has expressed concerns about how the removal of AFK macroing might affect peoples' ability to get buffs during the off hours when"no Entertainers are around"

I have to say, this sentimentdrives me up the WALL. I will put this as clearly and concisely as possible.

PEOPLE WHO CANNOT FIND A BUFF ON OFF HOURS WILL SURVIVE WITHOUT THEM.

They will not wither away into nothingness. They will not spontaneously combust. The world will not implode if they cannot find a buff. What happens if they need a doctor buff and can't find them? They get around them. They do not parade onto the doctor boards and demand an alternate for when the docs are not online. I cannot understand how these players can, on one hand, claim to be so dependent on us, and claim that we are indispensable, and on the other hand treat us like total garbage, a useless, interchangeable commodity that's only there for THEIR needs.

Argh, I'm sorry, I'm done now. FABULOUS idea Warryyr, I really liked it. Good possibilites for something more interactive, and if they can keep it from being macroed it has huge potential. Nice job!

I like your idea. I really do. it would work wonders for the cantinas.

But, what about non public cantinas?

Would this mean you have to have a certain table for buffing in your cantina/home? Would this mean the devs would need to recode all tables possible?

What about rooms with out tables?

In regards to these questions i think a simple buffing interface would be great. Now, I still really like the idea of the tables/chairs helping herd the players wanting buffs to specific places, though i think it should be a list of elite entertainers currently performing with buffing power. However i think it should go opposite. i think performers should register with a table or whatever. so here is my version:

1. performer registers that they are available for buffing.

2. Player needing buffs walks into cantina

3. Player checks the current roster of performers - sees there is a master dancer and master musician.

4. Player selects the two masters which automatically makes them listen/watch to them, and opens the buffing interface.

5. Entertainer gets message that Player would like to get buffed, do you accept (yes is NOT default)

6. Player gets message giving them the price of the buff (entertainer can set to tip whatever)

7. Buffing interface allows player to know how long they must listen/dance.

8. buffing is finished, player pays and leaves cantina.

So yeah thinking about it more, im not so into the table idea as much as say a bulletin board that has all /register ed ents on it along with their enhancement skill (so players know what they will be getting) .

My thought anyways.

Great way of putting it, Fuschia! I'm glad you're back.

I've said the same thing in the past--not nearly so big and pink though As I said, I don't find it a valid concern, but THobviously did for whatever reason. The argument "I can't find a buff during off hours because no one plays then" has GOT to be the weakest argument out there. Xyrdre admitted to being one of those Entertainers who plays during the off hours when no Entertainers play. And there are plenty more out there.

Yep, it's true. And I can also say that I've never been the only entertainer around during the wee hours (y'know, 12 mid.- 5 am pacific, which I think is probably the official "off hours" we're always hearing about). There's always been a few more hanging around, any hour, day or night, and in a variety of venues.

Now, grain of salt time though, in all fairness. My experience with this has been on Ahazi, one of the more populated servers. I haven't played on all servers in the middle of the night, so I can't speak for that. My experience on Ahazi though has been that there are a lot of people from all over the world (and all time zones) playing there, day and night. Half of myLIVE Entertainment guild has historically been European players playing on Ahazi, and we've had Japanese and Australianplayers as well. Not to mention other insomniacs and just plain night-owls.

Ahazi is never truly quiet, and that goes for liveentertainers thereas well.

Let's see how the feedback pans out, and maybe I'llstart pitching something along these lines to those Powers That Be, hmm?

The problem with your idea though Warryyr is that if I don't go to their table, I'll have them sending tells getting in my face and being asses for NOT running over to the table to buff them as soon as they sit down. Like I said... I didn't take dancer to wait tables. I wanted to be able to chat and not have to worry about incapping or dying and still being effective as a part of the game economy.

The only reason I like dancer is the passiveness of the healing mechanic.

I absolutelyLOVE this idea!!! I love dancing in the alcoves but it gets lonely there and I always wished they were used more. I would prefer a "table" I can drop myself when I am buffing though. That would let patrons know I am availabe to buff and likewise would give the patrons who to look for. I agree with using the main dance floor for healing, the patrons would adjust easier if that remained there. It would be easy to spot a buff- avaiable entertainer in a crowded cantina if we could have a flashingred (yellow? orange?)name tag or have our dropped "table" be outstanding in some way, so that a patron can spot us as fast as possible. A big complaint from patrons is taking so long to find who is buffing and this would cut that time down tremendously. I've been working on combat myself and trying to find who is buffing seems to be more difficult than I thoughtand often takes 10 - 15 minutes to find who can or willin a single cantina.

Put this idea with the dual buffing we will be getting and I am exstatic!!! btw, I will be the one moving around the cantina buffing as fast as possible hehe. This could very well be the solution to Elwyn's and my "buff team" dream !!
