Sorry for answering myself here...

But the AFK macro is a response, not an action.

For a game to be engaging, there must be a direct relationship between player action and reward. Healing XP is the real problem. There is no action to reward relationship. Since the player has no control over the result, it is clear that his interaction is not required.

Fix the problem, make the entertainer masteries "FUN" to obtain, and you'll find people actually at their keyboards enjoying themselves, in fact, some might even like it enough to keep it.

Don't do anything, just wait until Holo grinding goes away. Then the AFK'ers will go away.

They are all holo grinders (95% of em) so once the jedi revamp is in works REAL entertainers

will be the ones in the cantinas. So we need not do anything really.

Make it so you can not receive xp or tips while afk.

I dont think that exp given to macros should be reduced, cause i use a macro and im never afk hile using it. I use it cause i dont want to be constantly hittin gmy keyboard to do a flourish, which could be a pain while chatting.

The best solution I can see, and I think should probably work the best, is have AFK timers.

Say someone goes into Theed Cantina, starts playing music on a macro, and then leaves but leaves the character on auto. The game should recognise the in-activity after so long, and either disconnect that player, or eliminate that person's experience gain. This would probably be the simplist solution to the entire AFK problem, because then it would force the player to remain active.

I disagrees totally.

I I ever get the good forchune to unlock a jedi I would play that character online when I'm there and run an entertainer in the guild cantina for all the guilds needs for buffs and mind restorations.

IF anything I would argue and suggest the Entertainmnet tree should heal a player's body and action wounds but stimulating the body into repair mode much like sitting in a medical center doing nothing.

Has anyone done a calculation on how long a person would actually have to be at the keyboard "playing" the character to master musician? I got a holo that said musician and the only reason it's not worse than mastering ID now is that it can be run AFK. While holo-hunting musicians will go away soon, if AFK macroing does go away the xp given (or required) should make it so the skill can be finished in a timeline similar to other classes like pistoleer & fencer.

My suggestion is that you should decrease the amount of xp it takes to Master Musician. Seriously, you'd have to afk macro 24/7 for a week and a half to master the profession. It's fun to sit and chat, but after five hours or so it would be nice to train at least one freaking skill. Entertainers should not have to beg Combat Medics to disease the heck out of people just to get some decent xp. It takes litterally days to get one box of Entertainment Healing at 12 pts a tick. And there's eight boxes of that! I think that if you fixed this really slow leveling, you would have much less of a problem with afktainers, and also by leveling faster, bands could possibly play something besides starwars1, the most annoying song of all time.

For what it's worth, there's no current need to bump this thread; I have it sticki'ed to the top of the forum.

I really the 9.2 entertaining quests will be cool.
I've been musician for 6 or 7 months, and I'll never change.
The problem of the profession: you can't get fun when you're alone.
It's a REALLY good social job (I'm a famous cantina handler), but having fun alone is IMPOSSIBLE.
Give us fun, and I hope there will be less afks.

Say no to grinding!

I decided to put in my 2 cents.

I am a holo-grinder, and yes, I do alot of AFKing. I'm at my keyboard about half of the time. By the time the devs do anything I will have come and gone. In fact, by the time the devs do anything, the hologrind will be over and this point of this thread will mostly disappear.

Anyway, to my point, AFK entertainers are important to the combat professions that I come from. Having been a commando and being halfway through TK, I see this issue a little differently. Before I came to your profession, I spent a lot of time on Dathomir fighting rancors. The biggest help to me was being able to go into the cantina at the outpost to have my BF healed. There is one dancer (I don't remember her name ATM)who is always there AFK. She never asks for tips, in fact, she never says anything, but she's always there on Gorath BTW). If you remove the ablilty to AFK macro the entertainment profs, she won't be there. I know you guys might feel that she's taking business away from you, but it would be unfair to the combat professions to be forced to pay nearly 5k for a round trip ticket to Coronet to watch the ATK people there. Then to be expected to pay for the service you provide. If you guys insist on limiting AFK macroing, then limit the fix to Coronet. But, I have a feeling that when pub 10 goes live, you'll see the numbers of AFK performers decrease dramaticly. Anyway, the devs need to focus more on the professions that really broken, like Smuggler (been there, done that, zero AFK, wanted to put my eyes out).

Lastly, just remeber what can happen when the devs try to fix things (take the ID profand the outrageous timers for example). Imagine the bugs that could appear with the no tips or xp while AFK. And remember macroing, tips, and AFK timers not only affect your prof, but they affect everyone.
