What the....Excuse me??? HELLO!! TH I think you need to open your eyes - the CU has affected andtotally CHANGED the entertainer professions.

It almost seems like this combat upgrade is nothing more than a nerf to any profession that isn't combat. I actually don't have too much of a problem with some of the combat related things, like more/different sp's needed, reducing buffs etc. But, the collateral damage to the non combat professions is immense!

I was in the alpha for like 2 weeks before I quit for reasons I won't go into here. But, the docs I received then seemed wonderful! It was building, enhancing, and tweaking what we have now. The doctor buffs weren't being nerfed into oblivion. But, rather being brought into line with the entertainer buffs. I thought everything I read was really cool, and things were going in the right direction.

But, what we have now is utterly and completely different than what I first saw. It's a completely new game. Everybody is going to have to start all over again. I didn't pay all this money over the past two years and suffer through the buffbotsfor a completely different game that you know is going to take YEARS to tweak. A couple months when they haven't even started testing yet? My god, what are they thinking?! And, then after they nerf the hell out of every non combat profession, how long are all of these professions going to have to wait to get fixed? Do they even have any intention of making us viable again or will these future professionrevamps consist of nothing more than lowering skill points needed for crafters, and eliminating skill points needed for entertainers? Are we going to have a purpose or just be a pretty wrapper to a completely combat oriented game? They've given up. They failed in the grand experiment. They should be ashamed of themselves. I cannot even express what I feel right now except to say there is lots of anger involved and lots of depression. Anger over having wasted so much of my life on this game to have it end up like it's going to have to end up. And depression over losing what was such a wonderful game and concept. All that time wasted on upgrading other professions like chef...completely thrown out of the window. A complete waste of time. What the HELL are these devs thinking? And, if they truly think this game is going to be better and that we can't "understand" because we don't know the whole story, then for god's sake, give us the whole story!

I think this time, when I hit the cancel button, it's going to be for real.

Well, the difficult thing is, of course the CU will affect us. However, we're not really Combat professions, and balancing Combat is the focus of that effort.

I think he was just saying that the CU isn't going to be our Entertainer revamp. But things involving Entertainer and Combat will be adjusted, as it's unavoidable.

Calm down, guys....

This is just the first pass of details, and there is still a lot to learn about what's coming. Just because we won't be healing mind wounds anymore doesn't mean we won't have anything to do. As has been stated already, battle fatigue is still a factor, and that always takes longer to heal anyways. There's no where else players can go to get that healed.

Furthermore, I havea strong suspicion that we'll still be providing mind buffs. Mind buffs in the new system will allow you to do more specials. Actually, assuming our roles don't change, Dancers will boost a players's mind pool, and we Musicians will boost their mind regen (I can't remember what they called it) stat.

I guess I don't understand the reason for complaining about the removal of mind wounds. Anyone that has mind wounds has battle fatigue, so guess what - they're gonna have to come see us anyways. And despite TH's comment (which I believeis the result of misunderstanding the question he answered), the entertainer trees will be changing, if for no other reason than to fill the gap left by the wound healing lines. Maybe they'll just redistribute what we have already, maybe they'll split the enhancement line in to two, for short-term buffs and long-term buffs; but my point is we don't know yet and there's no point in getting worked up about it.

It amazes me, really. For months upon months we've been hearing the same line: "Combat is changing. Forget everything you know about combat." And yet suddenly people are going, "Wait a second! This is different! You didn't say it would be different!" I wanna /whap the lot of 'em.

Before you jump in and say, "They said combat was changing, not entertainers!" I have this to say: Whether you participate in it or not, the game was built around combat. Thus, you can't tweak that system without touching the non-combat professions as well. What we do as entertainers is not changing - our gameplay will remain basically the same as it was before. Think about that a second. Combat players are going to have to learn an entirely new system. We get status quo. We'll have to make some adjustments, to be sure, but again, that's to be expected.

One last thing about the action pool, and the possibility that it will be harder to play for extended periods without a doc around: Sucks to be a buffbot.

as a dancer who doesnt afk dance i see the CU as a way to get ride of what i think is the best proff in the game. Give us whimpy stats and weaker buffs and who will wanna come see a ent anymore? BUT i will wait and see what happens first and if it does what most think it will do to us not only will i quit the game but WILL be contacting certain friends i have to get every penny i put into this game back

Well, the important thing is that the Combat Upgrade makes the game more fun for combat.

I hope they maintain a focus on keeping non-combat professions fun, too. The non-combat profession upgrade is happening after this. I think it's in the game's best interests to have someone tell non-combatants that things will shape up for us. Right now it just looks like non-combatants are getting hosed for awhile.

Perhaps all of this is part of a plan to make Entertainers less attractive to buffbots for awhile, and make AFK playing less attractive.

We may just have to ride this out, to get to when they make our game better.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but I think that's exactly what is frustrating the veterans already.

Hehe, you yourself know that this is exactly what we've been doing for... well, it started a long long time ago...
and we just don't want to see these changes come in a galaxy too far away from where we are already.

Alas, you are correct.

And we don't really have a choice, hehe, if we intend to keep playing (Which I do).

May the force be with you.

so lets see CU and expansion and then its tweaks ...figure 120 days or so... then "docs" for non combat upgrade then 1mo doc ignore time then "new docs" then 2mo doc ignore time and then maybe if were lucky by the begining of next year we'll have it. Is sitting on an even bigger shaft for another year worth the money? ...not to me

There is nothing to ride out here. They've just stated that AFK play one. Entertainers now have 100% no place in the Star Wars universe. Battle Fatigue was a mental wound type; they've said health wounds will be the only surviving type and ALL OTHERS are being eliminated. Whatever else BF was it is NOT a health wound. All buffs but health buffs are gone. All stat migrations are gone. Jukeboxes provide better music and on demand than entertainers can offer. Our status is no longer marginalized, it's deleted.

I'm tired of waiting to see what can happen with game; I don't want to have songs and dances that no one will see. I'm thrilled as (expletive) that the last vestiges of this being a different sort of game, one trying to provide a lot of different gameplay styles is gone. I'm cancelling, effective today, and there's no point in looking back at this point. I have other characters, non-ent characters, but who cares? This entire (expletive) CURB has done nothing to improve the game and only acted to systematically remove every innovative aspect of the game on a step by step basis. This isn't SWG anymore, it's DAOC with phasers. And I LEFT DAOC to come here.

Frankly, I have to say that this is why I hate developer secrecy. If it had been clear the combat upgrade was to stupidify combat so it was less involved and more rock paper scissors. I have pokemon already,t hanks, it's good for what it is, but i don't need to play monthly to do it.

I certainly hope that this will be the case.

Hmmmm.....I seem to recall a reasonably important quote that I heard once: "Game Experience May Change During Online Play"

Heh...that's a tired quote. It could also mean, that your avatar will someday be standing on nothing but white ground with white sky and the only words you'll be able to say are, "blpahsghlp" with foam dripping from your mouth.

You also can't use the reasoning that we knew this was coming. Nope, we didn't. On one hand, they say we're out of the scope of the upgrade. If that were true, why are we being nerfed? They absolutely must do something to replace it, and not in March of 2007.

And its not just that, I have two accounts, asking me to wait is like saying send us your 30 bucks a month to wait. Waiting till May to see "what happens" cost me 60 bucks while I have a bad feeling right now. I am tired of paying to wait to see nothing.
