Thread: Master Musician but missing Instrument
Considering that they changed it right before the end of beta where dancers didn't loose any new dances the way theyused toand now they only get better versions of dances that they already have. What they should do is move mandoviol and cerimonial somewhere else and gives us Rock2 and Folk2 in Master Entertainer.
I really didn't want to bother with dancing or hairstyling and I shouldn't be forced to in order to get all my songs and instruments. Dancers don't have to if they don't want to and image designers don't even have to worry about it.
No, I think they got it right. By getting Master Entertainer you have basically mastered the advanced stages of dancing, music and image design. Then you get into the specialty part of entertainer. Since you have mastered Entertainment, its time to Master something not so broad, increasing your skills and becoming specialized. So, you go to master dancer, musician or imager!
I thought about trying for Master Entertainer, but I realized it wasn't worth it. First...most musicians will likely skip ME. The Mandovial is nice, but playing behind your back is only interesting for so long before you realize you could use those extra skill points in another profession. The song is a good idea, but everyone has to know it to get a decent benefit, and since most musicians will skip it...not gonna use it a lot.
I like playing music, but obviously no one's going to do that all of the time, so I'd rather master smuggler or TK artist perhaps.
Its a trade off and kind of a shame that it is this way, but I think the mandoviol is worth it. And the song is great. Since not many will go for ME, I think the mando and the song are unique and may get you recognized more.
Often times though, the mandoviol can't be heard in many songs because of to much slither and fizzz sounds. They need to bump up the volume on it.
Woot... A friend and I were finally able to make our mandovials last night. VERY worth getting IMO. I love the animations, and the sound adds a lot. It is subtle, but definitely adds.
It's true that not a lot of people are going to get master entertainer, but that is what I like about it. There are only two MEs on our planet at the moment, and one or two more in our band I think are working on it. But when we play ceremonial everyone listens. It is an EXCELLENT duet for a Kloo-type and a Fanfar-type! We go around and play it at the med center once in a while for fun, and always get a big crowd cuz no one has hardly heard the song. It is great for xp too - same as traz or whatever novice instrument is. ![]()
I have a bandfill and play it whenever I can. It adds a LOT to the sound of a band. But...I cannot accompany any of my ME friends when they play ceremonial. As a result, I'm driven to get Master Entertainer just so I can accompany them on the bandfill. ![]()
The mandoviol adds so much to the sound of a song, I agree. Very worth it, IMO.
Seeing as a master artisan never has to play a note in his life, I'd say that no, the mandovial and ceremonial don't belong in that path.
A master entertainer though has mastered IV levels of music, plus 2 other branches of entertainment, making him an overall great entertainer. As such, part of his reward is that he gets a new song and instrument. How is that wrong? Master entertainers are musicians, it just so happens that they are dancers and image designers as well... I don't know why everyone keeps trying to draw the line directly from image design -> instrument/song when it clearly doesn't work that way. Yes the dances they get are also second variations of those that a dancer would already have, but so are the first two dances they get in the dancer's knowledge line... that's just how that class is setup. If we were given a second variation on a song we already had you still wouldn't be able to play along without being an ME, so nothing would really be different.
I understand the point everyone is trying to make about master musicians, and how theyshould be the master of everything music-related, but if that's how things worked in the game then no one would have any motivation to master any of the base professions.
So anyway like I've said before, once you're done racing everyone else to master musician on your server, go take another couple of days and get master entertainer... not only is it worth it, but what else are you going to do with your time once you master music? I doubt you are going to be performing 24/7 (certainly no one is going to be giving up hunting to watch performances 24/7 hehe), so if nothing else it will give you something to do! Plus you won't need the healing xp anymore, so you can dance in seclusion if you aren't secure enough in your sexuality to dance publicly! ![]()
We often don't like vocalists, dancers, or anyone that draws attention from the "real" art that's going on: the music. (What's your instrument? My voice, I'm a Soprano. LOL, no realy, what do you play? My voice is an instrument foolio! Don't make me laugh!)
"Hijo, we musicians are sometimes elitists."
Ain't that the truth! As a singer, I've finally realized that singing is the only real musical art. Anyone can learn to play an instrument, why do you think there are so many "prodigies" out there... but to be a great singer you have to have been born with the right set of chords in your throat!
LOL Just teasing the instrumentalists.
We could never be on the stage, blocking your light, without you!
The real flunkies of the conservatories are the "inter-arts" majors. The "I had the lead in my smalltown high school play so I am good at everything" brats who, in fact, aren't really that good at anything... Wait! Is that what a master entertainer is?! Aww hell, now my whole theory is going out the window! Gah! ![]()
(I hope there aren't any inter-arts majors here! I kid, I kid... really!)

"I understand the point everyone is trying to make about master musicians, and how theyshould be the master of everything music-related, but if that's how things worked in the game then no one would have any motivation to master any of the base professions."
now that justhas to be incorrect. there are certainly more things than a unique instrument and tune that could motivate musicians to master Entertainer. many of them have already been mentioned in this thread.
and so what if there isn't. when did the game start revolving around mastering Entertainer. if there are zero Master Entertainers, and a lot of happy Musicians who have all their instruments, what is the overriding, damaging game balance effect?
You'd loose any reward for master entertainer. It's a self-defeating arguement. If you want the carrot for free, how are you gonna make the donkey work?
Seems fairly simple to me. If you want it, go get it. If you don't want to master entertainer, don't get it. It's the same for Master musician, you have to learn all the healing and instrument making to get it.
If you can propose an option that gets you the song and mandolin for freeyet stillleavesa reward in master entertainer that makes a musician say 'gosh, I REALLY want THAT', be my guest.
