Thread: Recursive macros are being removed!

Fine, I will hire a slave to sit at my computer and play my stupid entertainer alt while I get buffed from him on my main. How cheap are they nowadays? Maybe I should outsource my entertainer gameplay...

ok i have read several pages of this not every single post mind you and i would like to offer my opinion i am sure many will disagree with me from what i have read correct me if i am wrong here =several people here think that the afk entertainers are a great crime a tragedy to the game thats fine ok they need to go thats fine also some say this is my sole proffession my only acct this is how i want to play and these afk entertainers out number me 8 to 1 and kill my game play thats the problem right ok if someone from sony reads this and it is my intention that i hope they do what are you trying to say by doing this are you sayingare you sayingwe do not want money from people who have ALTERNATE accounts that are solely there for afk buffing i personally have 3 accounts i personally pay for all of these accounts because i havea job im sorry if some of you can not afford this but this is my choice and the message i am getting from this change is SOE no longer wants me to have alternate accounts that i do not actively play when im there so now the 8 or 10 afk entertainers per cantina per server you don't want thier money either right hey wait a min that may turn out to be alot of money and even tho SWG is a game for entertainment purposes SOE is a business with the intention of making the all mighty dollarim just curious how well thought out this is and my next question i pose for the community in general is who is gonna suffer from this change well several thousands alternate accounts just went in active does that then mean everyone gets a price increase to compensate from a marketing view maybe im looking at this all wrong i look forward to seeing to your response

Well if this goes through it won't have much affect on my professions. But I can see it having an affect on me because of the hours that I get to play the game. I work until about 2 am and when I finally log on, the cantina is full of AFK entertainers. Most likely all these people are AFK because they are sleeping. If not, then they don't say much when I walk in, so I have no way of telling them apart. So because I can't play at "peak" times because of my work schedule, I may have to go without mind buffs and heals because all the entertainers aren't going to be on typing /flourish 1-8 to heal me/buff me.


This may cause more problems then it will solve if you look at it this way.


Possible solution would be to make macro's only work while you have your "AFK" title up. This way it will make that little option of filtering afk chatter really work the way it supposed to. (instead of the person just running the macro without being marked afk)


Or make buffing for both doctors and entertainers like ID is now set up. You pick enhance stats and it brings up a window and you pick what you want, put a payment in, and the doctor/entertainer goes to work. (this way you actually have to be atk to buff. takes care of that argument) It may take longer for a doctor to go through his lines, but that's the price we have to pay to accomodate EVERYONE. We all pay 15 a month, and we deserve the same treatment. Like I said this may affect my gameplay, or it may not. I just hope the DEVS aren't too rash with this, and I hope that they exaust ALL the other solutions before getting rid of looping macro's.

Well, from a money standpoint, if it's even a factor in SOE's mind, what they do depends on what kind of outlook they are trying to have for the game.
If SOE is a company that lives from one business quarter to the next, and must do everything in their power to increase their bottom line by the end of each quarter, they may take a short term view and say "we can't lose those alternate accounts or our bottom line will suffer this quarter."
If instead, SOE has a longer term mindset, they will not be as concerned with one particular business quarter if they have a business plan that will benefit the company over a lonter period of time. In this case, they may look at the general view that people have towards swg right now, with nicknames like "SWG: An Empire AFK," and will act to make the game be full of players having fun and telling their friends to join the game. (I recently tried to tell a friend that I was having fun playing the game and it was really hard to make my point when what he'd heard was that no one actually plays, they just get the computer to play for them). So, while SOE might lose some money during the business quarter where they implement whatever would get rid of AFK players, they would be looking to making SWG more marketable overall and seek to increase revenue over a longer term.
Then again, the devs could just be saying "this is no fun, and we're going to change it, no matter what marketing says," and the money thing wouldn't even be a factor.

Don't forget, it's not just AFK entertainers that are causing them to look at doing away with recursive macros. It's ALL those who use these macros to grind experience, credits, loot, etc. during unattended gameplay.


They could just make unattended gameplay against the EULA. However, beware the zero-tolerance policies... Not to mention the fact that it is hard to monitor, and enforce. And what's to determine what 'gameplay' constitutes? To those with common sense, it's progressing in the game. To a zero-tolerance policy, it could be your character sitting in a corner while you make dinner.


Don't just look at the Entertainers as the cause of this. It's systemwide unattended play, by poor players in nearly ALL professions, that's the cause. We're just impacted more directly.

What if they just made it where you can't go AFK inside a building without being forced to log out? Or simply made looping macros not work inside buildings? Combat types could still have their COB macros going, and artisans could still macro survey. You could even have buffbots out in the wildnerness, with a camp, but this would leave the cantina's free for ATK players. If guilds wanted their buffbot, they could set one up in the wilds of dathomir somewhere, but it would leave outposts free for the real entertainers to make their living. no2

The recursive macro removal is not purely for the benefit of entertainers, notwomasters. We are just the ones who have been looking forward to it the most.
If you had actuarially read this topic you would have seen that mentioned a few times.

Unattended gameplay for all professions is a problem. This just seems to be the least amount of work (blocking recursion) with the greatest amount of impact. They COULD try to implement all the various ideas posted before. However, they will take the easiest route, with the least amount of code change. Sounds kinda like AFKers, eh?


Besides, with all the flawless changes they've made in the past, I can just see some of the potential bugs coming from some of these ideas. No buffs sticking. ATK players getting kicked from the game every 5 mins. 0 xp. One flourish drains your action completely. Only dance left working is Poplock, and the only working song/instrument combo leftis SW1 on theslitherhorn. lol
