No one is able to play 23/7. Thats why WE turn the game off when we are no longer playing. This is what was intended. Not unattended gameplay which isundeniably avery destructive action towards the game. Its kind of hard to have fun playing the little that wa do, when there are other players not putting in the effort to actually be at the computer and playing. Unattended gameplay destroys a many parts of the game.

It was NEVER intendedfor players tomaster an elite profession in a week. It was never intended to master one in a month. It WAS intended for people to play the game, experience the profession, and take TIME to finally gain the master title.
However, the devs seriously underestimated a few things. 1: the number of players who want to run around with a lightsaber. 2: the number of players willing to do just about ANYTHING in order to run around with a lightsaber. 3: the investigation skills of players willing to find the best way to get there with the least amount of effort.
Now, they're backpeddling, trying to find a way to get the game back into pre-holo balance. Remember when it took months to get your elite badge? Getting rid of looping macros is the first step. Now, if they can just take care of the alias work around, it'll be another step.
Although I can understand how some of you may feel spending hours apon hours ATK in a cantina, greeting patrons, socializing, and putting on a show is boring, most of us feel that is the core of the profession. It is a SOCIAL profession! Many of us feel the profession has seriously downgraded because of those who simply refuse to perform. It has lead to the current 'shuddap and buff me' attitude that we're seeing, and the total disregard for courtesy in the cantina.
I can't wait for this first step on our long road to recovering the cantinas. Bring it on.

Won't be even then. This is set for some nebulous time in the far distant future,probably long after JTL.
Thunderheart has done a real disservice to the Entertainer Professions and the playerbase in general with his ill considered remarks on this subject. If this is so far in the future nothing should have been said until such time as some plan had been formulated for implimenting it and the patch was scheduled. He has ignited a firestorm of forum flames and wars and a great deal of in-game hostility. In any other industry this would have his superiors taking a close look at his actions and probably calling for his resignation but in the world of SOE it appears to be SOP.

Despite trying to get myself from these threads, as I'm tired of hearing/saying the same things over and over, you don't seem to have read much about this, so I'll try to inform you.

I myself have never used an AFK buff of any kind. And I highly doubt that every person on your server has used them at least once. (From a technicality standpoint, I have a character on Naritus that I haven't played in forever, and he hasn't used one). There are people that don't like the idea of them, and not everyone even needs entertainer buffs.
One in dath for those who grind NS. One in Mining OP on Dant who grind solo missions. Those afk buffers go away.... All the money you make from grinding missions in Dant or Killing NS in Dath all that money you make from doing those are going to Pay for food. BRANDY and Canape if you get one crate of each on my server its about 100k for each one.
As someone who has grinded solo missions for money, I have to say that the investment in food is much lower than what you claim here. I am able to grind these missions using *just* brandy, and in one session of grinding (i.e. one set of doctor buffs), I make about 500k when doing solo missions (or 250k when I do missions by myself without a group), and I go through maybe one bottle taken from the crate (though I think it's less). With 25 bottles for 100k (your price), that means that for my investment of 100k, I can make a 12.4 million credit profit (minus the cost of doctor buffs, armor maintenance, and travel). I hardly think all my money will be going to food (and I know hardly any of it goes to food now).
and honestly the macros that our afk buffers have you get Spatial Spam every 5 mins... telling you when they start a new stat.
If this is meant to say "the spam isn't so bad," you should try staying in the cantina for an hour or so. Granted, it's easy to /addignore the bots, but my point is that 5 minute spam is still very annoying if you're in the same place for more than 3 iterations of it.
So everyone has used the AFK buffers and they have been Very effective for those who grind for money or loot or US who PVP. So you take the macro's out...... you are going to have a hell of a time to find someone to buff you. I think the cantina's all you will hear is Crickets. No music what so ever.
There'd be a lot less crickets and a lot more music if the buffbots weren't preventing live players from making any money as an entertainer. Entertainer buffs are very useful, and as soon as it's worth it to sell them, people will start doing so.
I used them all the time.. because in PVP you cant just suport your toon on STAT MIGRATIONS to fill up your mind and canape and brandy. There is no way... when everyone in PVP attacts your mind with out mind buffs you get hit in mind 2 times your dead... even with brandy or canape. For those of you who use them and say YAY they are going away.... soon you will see how it effects your game play because your money you make from grinding solo missions will be all spent on food... because you know CHEFS know they will bank by this nerf and probably double their food prices.... so they can make more money because they are just as greedy as anyone else.

I can live with that.2) How meny of you even THINK a doc will sit in coronet or where ever they may sit and sell buffs?Docs i feel get the most tells then anyone... asking .... How much for buffs? How long do they last? Bank tip or Reg tip? How good is the stats? any doc out there can relate to that..... They rely on those macro's to spam that for them... because its so hard to buff someone and make sure you get all the stats and then to reply to tells every 2 seconds to answer questions. I am a master doc and i sat in coronet a few times to buff.... and got those exact tells even when i had a Macro running to say the info on them. And i got tells asking me every 10 or 15 seconds... With those macros being taken away... its gonna drop to every 2 seconds.
Here's where you're so completely wrong. Here it's no longer a matter of contrasting opinions, but you're just flat out wrong. Macros are not being taken away, recursive macros are being taken away. You can still make a macro of some length (and use copy/paste to make it repeat several times within the same macro) to advertise the stats on your buffs. You'll have to hit the key to start it up again every few minutes. You'll still spam the starports with your advertising without any problem, at the same rate, so there's no reason you would get any more tells after removing recursive macros.
So this macro being taken away not only effects those annoying AFKer with their spam... when i just /addignore them or take off the messages from AFK players BOOM SOLVES PROBLEMS for me it will effect how you all grind professions, solo groups, or grind a POI's for money. So before you jump up and down in your seat and say you are happy they are going away... Think of how it will effect you..
And though I haven't addressed this yet, I'd like to point out that you're posting this in the musician forum, a place that's less likely than other forums to contain people who spend a lot of time grinding professions, solo groups, or grinding POI's for money. Perhaps you should figure out your target audience before you ask us to think about how it will affect our gameplay.NO MORE AFK MIND BUFFS that i know EVERYONE LOVE's.... AND NO MORE DOC's BUFFING IN CORONET because they and my self included won't want to sit answer every tell every 2 seconds.. WE ALL HATE TELL HELL!!!!! and for doc's its going to be TELL HELL NIGHTMARE!!!! I myself will no longer BUFF in coronet i won't even have my MASTER DOC tag on.... i will stick to buffing friends... So everyone if they take them away.... Better make some good FRIENDS with doc's and Musician/dancers so you can get your buffs because they will vanish just as fast as they take the MACRO's away.
Yes, you should make good friends with docs or musicians/dancers to find your services more easily. One might argue that it would have benefited you to make friends with them before, so that you could have someone more likely to come to you to help you when you needed a buff, or someone who would likely give you a discount on the buffs. I have doctor friends that I have to pay much lower than the typical starport docs for buffs, simply because I'm friendly with them. As a musician, I almost always give my buffs for free to my friends. This being a MMORPG, you tend to benefit in the game if you know people who can help you with whatever aspect of the game you need. These games tend to be about reputation. Unfortunately for you, your reputation among musicians isn't helped much by posting what you did. You may indeed hear crickets when you go into a cantina after buffbots are removed. But I know I won't ever hear crickets. I'll be welcomed with open arms and be told 'sure, hun' when I ask for a buff, because I've bothered to make friends with people. Good luck to you, and I hope you see that things won't be so bad as you claim.

I couldn't have said it better myself... I have a Master Entertainer/Master Musician/Master ID/Dance 4043 on Starsider and since the day I've gotten Master Musician, I haven't buffed one person, in protest to the AFKing bots who polute our air with their afk spam...((which most of the time now, they don't put themselves afk, because their spam isn't seen if they are))
I even got to the point where I refuse to play in a cantina for the reason that the entire cantina is filled with AFKers who don't chat with anyone, and still end up getting paid for what they are doing.
If you can't play without going afk, then don't play...

I have no problem with recursive macros going away. I am a bit concerned how this will effect alias files though. As a song writer it is common for me to make song files from 8-10 alias files long, each triggering the next. The macro files are just not long enough to do a complete song with lyrics and bandflos so I had to resort to alias file writing. While I welcome the removal of afk entertainers and have actually witnessed a renewal in the entertainer field on Kettemoor now that jedi grinding is gone, I am concerned with changes that will stiffle creativity in song writing. I really think they should have just worked on grouping mechanics and how thats done rather then the recursive macro thing. Somehow I can't help but think this is going to adversely effect the most serious of entertainers also, the people who write dance routines or serious music. At this point I am very concerned with the upcoming changes.

Entertainer buffs are not your right, there a privilege. Buffbots have taken that option away,because while most people complain your going to be spending a lot of money on chef foods, it would help in that more than half out there don't even pay for their buffbot buffs. I speak from experience. I made a couple of macro's, spammed them manually, and sat there pretending to be an AFK buffbot, watching all those who came for buffs. Easily 75% of those person's did not pay a single credit, the ones that did never more than 5000. Here's what really sucked: Those same people walked completely around another master musician who was ATK not spamming but shouting he was buffing (who was doing this test with me). They came for the free buff. I had about 30 customers in this, I made about 20,000 for 2 hours work. EVERYONE of those people were going to go do missions, making there 60k worth solo group missions every 15 minutes, come back, get more missions, repeat.
I am so sick and tired of the argument "there aren't any musicians to be found". EVERY SINGLE MUSICIAN can testify that while atk they have auctioned selling buffs and WATCHED people walk around or through them to go to the buffbot. Its not quicker to get a buffbot, we can invite people, its the same exact amount of time and strength of buff. And GOD FORBID they get entertained by an ENTERTAINER in the process.
IDers charge anywhere from 1000 / minute to 30,000 for stat migrations. They are not spending money on buffs like doctors. And people pay, pay for the service they can not provide themselves but still a) value and b) need. Doctors spend a lot on making good quality buffs. They charge anywhere from "what you can" to 20,000. The mentality that players have a right to music and dancing buffs and for no expenseat their own discretion is crap. You mean to say that other players are going to suffer as a result? Your preaching to the choir, and thanks to the populace of the servers, deaf ears. Why should the entertainers that buff give a *beep* when the recursive macro's are gone
I strongly feel those who cry the loudest about recursive macro's getting removed are the ones who don't pay a dime, except the buffbot'ers themselves. On my bad days I sincerely hope there are days all musicians agree across all the servers after recursive macro's are gone to charge astronomical fee's for buffs.

Like i said on my bad days....to this day I have never required a specific amount on any buff, any ID I perform. =P
