From the In Development Forum post -- Tiggs Says:
- We are going to change the auto-retrieve items when items are purchased from a remote vendor/bazaar. Buyers will have to travel to the vendor/bazaar to pick the item up.
- It will go to Test Center in the next few days.

Please, please, please no! I really don't think I need to say the reasons why again, as they have all been posted many times over. I'll just add my voice to the chorus of "NOOOOOO!!!!!!"

Finally, what makes you think that the other planets will become less abandoned? On sure, they'll be shops there, but nobody will ever visit them, except for the merchants occasionally restocking. Rather than browsing a ring around Coronet people will just camp the Coronet bazaar.

Maybe you are right. Maybe I'm just optimistic. My thought was if there were no particular value to being in the hub location, then maybe people would move to the other locations again. I do remember when there were clusters of players around the other NPC towns, before Coronet and Theed became the merchant hubs that they are now.
I've observed merchants who live in player towns move their businesses to the big hubs, because let's face it, there is often more profit there. Some player towns have subsequently suffered. I just can't fathom a reason (other than profit) that would make everyone want to stay in those crowded hubs. If the profit motive were no longer viable, then wouldn't people move out to the 'burbs? And if people move their businesses and houses back to their player towns, wouldn't that build community a little bit again?

Auto-retrieve going away still doesn't address the problem with one-stop remote shopping.
I may as well put one vendor up in an otherwise empty house with every item I sell on it.
Any ability to buy the item remotely makes this a bad idea and listing the prices will only serve to benefit undercutters.

Well, for ME personally, that still leaves one point of contention. It probably doesn't bother others, but it does me.
Why can you search the galaxy from my vendor, and buy it from someone else? Sure, they came to my vendor, i'm pretty happy with that chage thus far. But, why am I advertising for other crafters and merchants? I can turn off ME being on the System - but I can't turn off everyone else?
Here's the flow. People see my shop on Planetary map or Bazaar.. Or perhaps it's been a long term loyal customer. They come to my shop, and I have the item they want. but, they click Galaxy, and find the exact same item cheaper. He buys that item FROM MY VENDOR, and goes to pick it up - And I get nothing from my competitor making a sale using MY vendor?
I'll take my battles where i can win though. At least the delivery is gone.

I agree with Elyssa. Auto-retrieve going away is good - but still does not solve the issue. Remote buying means it is still a flat out, centralized price war where location and building a reputation with customers means absolutely nothing (a big part of the fun and aim of the merchant). What happens with structure fees? You buy the item, show up at the shop only to be faced with a 50k entrance fee? Big opportunity for exploiters there.
It should be a galaxy wide search option only - no pricing should be listed. See that adhesive you want for 25k on some remote city on Talus? Better haul butt and get there fast or you may not get it. But at least you didn't have to spend hours combing every vendor on a planet looking for the possibility of it's existance in the first place.

I agree totally. This doesn't fix it. Its less broken but its still a bad implementation.

Yes. One battle at a time, wins the war.
As Tiggs said, it's not even on TC yet. Try it out and see how it works, or doesn't. And give them lots of feedback on it.
I don't like the idea of being a remote advertisment for all my competition. But if I choose to opt out of the galaxy search, I cut myself out of the chain, don't I? I'd become a missing link?
I don't wantthe reasons forvisitingmy remote location to be cut completely out of the loop because someone may see they can get it somewhere else cheaper. I am hoping they can see they can geta wide varietyat my mall and not have to city hop to complete a shopping list.

This is what we actually asked for:
8 New Feature Global Item Listing (Searching)
The global map advertising is a great tool for getting people into your shop to browse your wares however many merchants would like a global item listing that could be searchable and would allow them to compete with the bazaar for sales. One method would have a “premium auction” feature in Merchant that would allow merchants to place items (for a fee) into the global listings that would be in a separate tab on the bazaar terminals. This would be searchable and show the item details and the price listed. Purchasing the item could still be handled at the local vendor, this method would be an advertising method and not a sales method.
We did at the time include pricing. That obviously was some time ago and the attitudes here are definitely against pricing on the bazaar at the moment.

It's not that people can see other people's goods and prices from my vendor that bothers me - It's that they can BUY the items from my vendor. If you're on the internet, and buy frm Ebay - Ebay takes their cut. This is the same situation here.. People are using my Vendor as a search engine. They are making a purchase through my system. But instead of getting a fee for having my system used, I get nothing, and my competitor gets the sale.
