Thread: Merchant Poll: Have Poachers hurt your business?

I would disagree. I think that most people that have/want vendors are crafter types. Most PvP/PvE people don't need a vendor to sell loot, because at least on shadowfire, all the good loot is sold through the forums. I know most of the high end hunters and they either have friends that buy stuff from them -- wouldn't be surprised if ittov has a few hunters that come to him first with RIS components or nightsister armor segments -- or they sell them on the forums where they can usually get 10x as much for them. I would even venture to say that for most, it is the trade forums, and finding that first special loot, that brought them to the boards to begin with.

But, even assuming that a portion of them used poached vendors, if they disappeared, it wouldn't help the merchant profession. lesser loot would just be deleted, and the good stuff would still be sold on the forums or directly to people that could use it.

Which is why to me, the main problem is still a lack of skills/abilities. because if there were things to do, non-vendor-related, it would make this profession into something you could actually participate in, not just stock vendors, and would give crafters something to do with those invested skill points. Making them far more likely to keep their skill points invested instead of being tempted to drop the entire profession, or make a secondary account.

I see a lot of loot vendors on Sunrunner. Keep in mind, only 5% of the player base reads the forums.

Only 5% Maybe I am just on a smaller server.. but I would say the percent on shadowfire is a lot higher, because I am constantly running into people that post daily. Hell, we have a few guys who respond to their own posts with their own secondary accounts. lol. it is kinda funny.

Aren't you making the assumption that if people did have to keep the skills to use vendors they would stop selling altogether?

Do you know anyone that stopped crafting or selling resources because they wanted to use the skill points on other professions? I know this would require them to not know vendors would still work if they dropped the skill which is something pretty difficult to measure.

This whole situation is just... dumb. I can't imagine it would be very difficult or time consuming to add a few lines into the code that runs when a sale is made to check if the vendor owner is legit and denying the sale if not.

MerchantLevel = <hiring 4=6, hiring 3=5, hiring 2=4, hiring 1=3,novice=2, business 3=1
VendorCount = <count number of vendors owned by that player>
if ( VendorCount > MerchantLevel) {
<witty message to buyer>
exit }

As a Master level crafter - the solution to me would be simple, I'd just drop my combat skills and pickup sufficient Merchant skills to run my vendors and have planetary advertising. I might decide to master the profession if I could, but I would risk not being able to enjoy other content in the game as would revert from a "Poacher" to a "Dabbler".

And I would not feel on iota of guilt in doing so.

Merchants will come and merchants will go, but at the end of the day, unless I could be guaranteed that my goods will get sold and that I would get the money back from the sale of those goods, I wil continue to do it myself. And I don't know of too many Master Level crafters who think any differently.

Simple as that.

Then why don't you start now? Free up those stolen skills you have and be a legitimate player like the rest of us. Not being able to enjoy the rest of the game is such a cop out excuse. We all have to deal with the same amount of skill points, so how about getting off your high and mighty throne and mingle with us commoners?

How about selling wholesale or enter into a consignment contract with a merchant? You know that CSR's are around to help deal with disputes that you may have with an unsavory merchant.

And along those lines, if I would be the merchant that you would choose to sell items through, what gurantees would you have for me that your product would sell at all? Since you know all the benifits of the skills of the merchant profession byhaving stolenthem, you should know how powerful they are in helping in the distributuion of your products.

You should have said Simple-Minded as you are.

Indeed, he'd have to be pretty simple-mindedput his faith in the CSRsto sort out monetary disputes between players.

Just because I've been quiet doesn't mean I'm not watching you, Balki. You keep your flaming up and I'll jump right back in to start making fun of you for it.

I'm okay with you, though, because you don't pretend that you're being anything but immature, and I respect that openness.

will my wit and charm never end? Actually, I just am tired of this discussion. Everything that could be said has been and it's just rehashing issues in a never-ending circle... so might as well have a little fun.
