Thread: My take on the upcoming Vendor and Merchant changes

Collapse of the economy? What are you talking about? The economy is going to go on whether vendors are working at all. People will always find a way to make money if they need it. Vendors is only one outlet to dispurse your goods. Vendors do not even handle services. Players manage just fine to peddle their services without even using a vendor. The economy is going to be just fine with vendors the way they are.

My bad and my apologies. I read your post wrong. I see you were talking in retrospect of Stu's post. If people get mad over losing their merchants and quit crafting that will not be much different than now anyway. There are so few crafters that are actively stocking vendors it is work to find what you need. Something needs to be done to improve the crafting process. Crafting is alot more work than alot of players want to put into a game. For me the burnout is relisting 100s of items to the point I only do requests for orders. For others it is trying to find resources you need. Some resources never spawn. I have yet to find one resource I need for tailoring. I haven't seen it for the several months I have been a master. For weaponsmiths and armorsmiths this is even worse because they need tons of specific resources.

Well Crafters can't have merchant skills? that is the problem? Just loaded Kswgprofcalcualtor and did the following...

Master Rifleman/pistol/carabine/Teras kais/fencer/swordsman

Master Crafter from artisan

0001 Merchant ( 3 vendors )

41 points left

So you're master crafter, you have three vendors. I'd say you have a shop with all the potential to be a good shop. You now have the otion to go scout/medic and be a more field guy or puttng your shop in first place and get survey or more merchant. Seems very reasonable. You can be the best whatever crafter you want to be and still go out and do quests/hunt/etc...

Why should they not fix it?

Refering to the original post you say you have thousands of items and would have to move them and it would take forever, etc... Pick up merchant. If it's that important to you just understand that you got away with a situation you should not have and now it is finished. You now have to spend skill points to run your shop as it is... What is more important to you kill stuff or sell stuff? Choose...

As to limiting the number of items on a vendor, there I think they are going to fail... if the limit is high enough everything will stay the same.. if not then I'd say ppl who have vendors should complaint, you can do thousands of a lot of items and you should be able to sell them... So I don't know what they can do...

*sigh*, for the upmteenth time, I have Novice Merchant 0/0/0/3 to run my 5 vendors. Once I'm done playing Master Swordsman I'll be picking up my advertising skills again and possibly move to 3/4/0/3 as will most other crafters seem to be doing. I really wish people would read things instead of assuming things

The only difference between now and when the fix comes in(from my own personal point of view) is that I wont be able to consider my Merchant skills as being (along with my politician skills) a disposable skill set.

How about at master merchant you get the skill to drop a vendor and give a person admin rights and then you can set how much of a percentage you get from each sale and the person with the admin rights can restock it themselves?

This skill alone sounds like a good solution to allot of the problems IMO.

Sorry if this is being implemented or someone already suggested it, I only skimmed through this second page, I was falling asleep reading the same thing being said over and over, so many seem to complain rather than to just accept and make adjustments.

Bottom line is this was not intended to work this way, they are fixing it, so deal with it, they are giving plenty of time to fix it.

If everybody is happy with the current situation *ie non merchants*, then there will be no outcry for improvement. Take away the sanctuary those poachers currently enjoy and I expect an outcry from NON-VENDORS who finally realize this profession needs fixing. However, I don't see this outcry happening till poachers are eliminated. Then we can get real fixes to this profession to make it what it should have been.

You know, here's a thought that I doubt has been mentioned... (I didn't see it here, anyway.) What if they improved the profession, and THEN fixed the bug. I do keep merchant skills on my crafting alt, but I can see where a lot of people could be in deep trouble when this fix goes live. Especially if they don't read the forums, and you have to remember, not everyone does.

This largely depends on how they handle it. I know many people here would like to see the poached vendors simply disappear. I would prefer if the "sell" button was simply disabled for all poached vendors ("buy" for offers should also be disabled). Nothing on the vendor disappears, the owner can still remove inventory from the vendor, and existing for sale items can even still be sold until the 30 day limit is up and items move to the stockroom.

Why do I like this solution? First, it's reasonably easy to implement - every time the owner clicks "sell", a check for the owner's skill can be made. Second, it essentially gives merchant poachers 30 days to deal with the situation. Sure, some items may begin to move to stock almost immediately, but even in that case, the owner has 7 days to find a place to deal with their goods. In either case, 7 days or 30 days is enough time to begin working up merchant again if that is the solution.

Suddenly deleting people's stuff willcause people to cancel. And you are right - there is no way to warn everyone through the forums. Disabling the sell button (with a message about lacking skills to operate this vendor) works as a reasonably effective warning.

/nod yep.. I don't think the majority of merchants honestly want anyones' "stuff to go poof".. We just want them to not be able to use the vendors that they have no business having once they drop the skill.. At least that's the impression I get from reading what people have had to say.. I'm sure there has to be a way to deal with this issue without everyone losing their stuff..

Trust me. It will work exactly like that. There will be some period where your vendor shows up for work every day but refuses to sell stuff for you. They won't just refuse to come in one day that would be really bad.

If I had to choose between a 'poached' full vendor and an empty "legitimate" vendor.. I'd take the full poached one any day.
