Thread: Vendor Items MUST be Removed and Relisted to View Detailed Information
Hey Elyssa, could you please suggest to SOE that they use the in game messaging system to alert people to this? Most of the players don't read the forums and don't use the holocron help system. I swear 95% of the people in game think the vendor system is just totally bugged and they are waiting for a fix. A few system messages about this during prime time would get the economy on my server moving again.
Oh my oh my - just what I wanted to do - relist over 3000 items cause the lazy-ass Devs dont want to update a database.
AARGH - I may have a Going to WOW Selloff soon
Sorry for the frustration - but this is totally stupid and another way to wates my time.
I have to give credit to the mod here. At least she's talking and passing information along. So Kudo's for doing that.
But being a former programmer myself. There is no such thing as can't convert data. There is such thing as won't convert data. Or are too incompetent to know how to convert the data.

OK guys and gals - it's like this.
If the Devs say "it can't be done" they are both accurate and inaccurate at the same time. Let me explain.
If they (the Devs) had unlimited time, yes, it could be done (wether something is in your house or vendor, it's still simply records in a database table). However, someone (I assume some marketing weenie that wants to capitalize on the release of the Star Wars Episode 3 movie, but that's just my opinion) made the decision that ROTW must be released by a certain date - NOT open to negotiation. Since everything for ROTW was programmed for the CURB, the CURB HAD to be live before ROTW was released.
Given this, let's say there were 1500 things that had to be done to make the conversion perfect. Time, however, only allowed for 1000 things to be done. So, decisions had to be made to drop 500 things. Which 500 things? Whichones fell into theneed-to-have category and which into the nice-to-have category?
The reality is that the devs are capable of programming this conversion, but they do not have the resources to program the conversion.
I thank you Mr. Marketing weenie for placing so little value on my real-life time.
Not having time to do something quickly is a still a "won't" if they tell you to do it yourself. "Can't" means it's not possible to fix it given any amount of time. Obviously it's a "won't" since we can fix by relisting ourselves.
Can't ... won't. Whaatever. Regardless, this was the last straw for me - 2 accounts cancelled.
I agree with Paladin. They need to add this information to their other little "helpful" tips they randomly put up on your screen.
I had heard by word of mouth in game that the items just needed to be relisted so I spent about 3 hours relisting over 2000 items only to be disappointed by the fact that my details still weren't showing up. Frustrated, I came here and found that I had to unlist, withdraw, and relist. How ridiculous! I really can't believe what BS that is. I had already considered cancelling my combat character, but this makes me just want to quit all together. I really love how the CU effected so much more than just combat. Way to go Devs. I already have almost a full vendor of BE clothing that doesn't convert. Now this?![]()
I pulled everything and restocked last night, took me about 3 hours /sigh. What amazed me was that I was still selling things even without being able to see them. I'm a tailor, I lable the colors, and leave the origional item name on the item. I hope this problem doesn't happen again, like the reappearing and dissappearing waypoints. If it does i'm going to be very unhappy. It's bad enough everything is going to fall off of my 8 vendors all at the same time /pout.

I know incompetence when i see it, there is no excuse for the inability to convert things automatically. Except for incompetence and bad game design - but what else is new. Anyway, I do not plan to move all the 5000 items i have on my storage vendors through my inventory. As far as I care they will stay in this limbo state until the ancient bull rancors give milk.

noone's happy about it, but it doesn't look like the devs are just saying no because they want to. this seems to be actual database issues that probably can't be fixed in any fast/easy way.
I'm now kinda glad I use the original item name plus color in my items, so people can still match clothing items if they trust me

Well, hmmm.
I could rant on this issue like others here...No, doesn't accomplish anything. Instead I think an analysis of the matter is in hand. What all of this boils down to is a job to be done. The Devs were hired by SOE to work on game software in order to address situations such as this. SOE has determined that other similar situations take priority for the Devs' work time. So hence they reallocate the work duty to others (us). Sounds a bit like "sub-contracting" to me. This need to restock vendors is not a normal part of this game, it is work. And I would be willing to bet money that no player doing it has found it fun or enjoyable. It is a job. Well you pay someone to do a job, right? As far as I see it, all vendor owners in the game are now subcontractors for SOE. Now I realize that we should not be expecting an SOE payroll check in the mail. But how about a one month credit to our accounts, for any account with a character that owns a vendor? I could list a slew of companies that are more than willing to grant a free month in order to maintain your business.
Yah, I know...this idea will go no where. Guess I just needed to get it off my chest.
Or, SOE can start doing their own software quality assurancetesting, like every other damned software company does on the planet. In my opinion, pushing garbage software out to paying customers is inexcusable. And what do they do for a "reward", they give us five days to earn double XP--which is just stupid for veteran players that have already filled out their templates.
*sigh* it saddens me that so many will not take a day to relist
{yes it is a pain, I did it to, and I had just relisted everything last monday}
and would rather wait weeks banking on the DEVs fixing it,
when they already stated they won't
{for whatever reason it does not matter, they are not doing it}
People are looking for stuff,
buyers are wondering why sellers don't want their creds,
Players are at a loss where to find items they need,
and merchant's are pouting...
Honestly- if you are not going to relist, then delete the vendors,
do not leave them up for potential customers to stroll in and waste their time on,
when you won't waste your time to retreive andrestock for them,
you are not selling your stock anyways so destroying the inventory won't be a loss.![]()
