Thread: Some reasons why vendors should stay after you drop Merchant.

Even though I don't agree with your logic, I suppose not letting the vendor stay will hurt the game eco more than anything. While those people who didn't dropped merchant will have to rebuild their vendor, those people who haven't planed to keep merchant at all, mostly resource sellers, will have to resort to auctioning to sell their resource, that means the resource will all goes to those with millions of credits and it eliminated the competition at all.

1. The Bazaar is a heap of ultra-low end garbage. Allowing players, especially artisans, but also loot hunters, to place a few vendors around is a good thing.

Yeah, that's what the bazaar is for - low end products.
Vendors, and the merchant skills are for 'serious' sellers andhigh end products.

I'll admit that the Offer option is limited, but instead of crying about it perhaps we should advocate Admin Lists for vendors so merchants can add other people to sell things from their vendors.

Then just find a merchant and build a relationship.

2. The merchant uses their skill to HIRE someone. We then pay their salary to sell goods for us. Raise the price of vendor maintenance to something like 3x or 5x for those who drop merchant.

The way this game works is:
Take skills, get abilities.
Drop skills, lose abilities.

Not drop skills, pay 5x.

3. Taking vendors away from all non-merchants would result in a server wide catastrophe. Hundreds of shops would vanish, thousands of items too. Seems its a whole lot easier just to raise the fees on non-merchants and let all the vendors stick around.

No it won't.
You can still keep your shop open.
Just take the skills required to use your vendors.

I think the way they were thinking of implementing the change would be that vendors for people who don't have the skills would just go inactive.

This would allow you time to take the skills necessary to use the vendors and then you'd be back up.

If people start taking merchant skills now, they should have no problems keeping things running.

"When Sony and Lucas set out, we said, How can we do this and not make another EQ? We didn't want it to be all about Luke, or combat, or lock our players into a class. So we created a system that would allow players to switch professions during the game, and there would be a lot of gameplay around making that change. If you want to go from architect to scout we've created a system to make that happen."

Wow Yolner, looks like I touched a nerve. Wonder which nerve it was, that you are an exploiter, a cheater, or a twelve year old tiddy baby.

The Devs said that cross server ITEM trading isn't an exploit (specifically Holocrons), but look it up, cross server LOT trading is. You are lying to yourself if you can't see the truth in that - you have convinced yourself that the exploits you are using are just peachy fine, but cry-baby about the people that spend weeks, months working up their Merchant (to Master, like me) and then keep the vendorsthey earned the right to place.

You are an exploiter,a lying cheater on one hand and a tiddy-baby crying for nerfs on the other hand. You are the lowest of the losers in this game - quite honestly everybody here thinks you suck.

Pretty straightforward - even a twelve year old child like yourself can understand that. If you are having any problems with the big words I used, go upstairs and ask mommy.

Your the only exploiter here. Cross server lot trading isnt an exploit and I dare you to prove that it is. Please submit a CSR ticket.

Ok where should i look it up?Can you pull dev posts out of your ass atwill like you do these "facts" of yours? There is not dev post about it. Why would they allow posts about it on their boards if its an exploit?

Your a moron who pulls "facts" out of his ass. I think exploiters like you suck.

Ok i got tired of being called an exploiter so i decided to go to the source and createda CSR ticket. It was answered in about 3 hours which was a nice surprise. Heres what it said:

My ticket:
"Hi. I would like to know how SOE feels about cross server lot trading. Do you consider this an exploit? Thank you"

Answer

"This is CSR******** (im not sure if i can use his name here). I am sorry to hear that youre misinformed about the game and cross-server issues. We do not support cross-server trading or lot usage, but it is not agains our policies."

So shove that in your pipe and smoke it buddy.

I think this is the misunderstanding.

No one is keeping skills. People who drop that tree can no longer place vendors... they have lost the skill, they didnt keep it.

The only thing that was 'kept' was what was done with the skill.... much like your wounds would still be healed if the person who just healed you suddenly dropped medic.

In this case, it would be perfectly reasonable that those who have dropped the skill and retained their vendors be permitted to keep them -- but not to use them in any manner. No selling, no buying, no stocking. Which is to say, the very same thing that would happen if the vendor were removed.

Its not an exploit

It's a cheap loophole that some people feel fine using.... what we are pointing out is that someone who vehemently calls the vendor issue an exploit (when it is working exactly as described in the game documentation) comes across as a bit disingenious when he is willing to use this cross server loophole. We are basically calling him a hypocrite and we are using the same childish tactics to do so, as he did earlier in the thread.

cheap fun, admittedly, but well deserved in his case.

ps: nice photoshop CSR ticket

Personal flames from either side of this debate are very unhelpful. It is enough to disagree but to do so with such personal attacks just hurts your cause no matter what that may be.

The screenshot does, I believe, accurately describe Sony's position as far as I have heard. They don't support cross server trading of anything but they have not come down with a position that trys to prevent that from happening. I dont' happen to like cross server trading of lots becuase of the implication it has for Player Cities, it isn't really comparable to the question about Vendors and the merchant profession.

Now if you have a cross server merchant character dropping skills and keeping his vendors then I'll be all over it

For the record one of my characters dropped the last of his merchant skills last night to pursue another path. To do so he had to give up his last vendor because he was giving up all of the business line as well. I spent more than an hour transfering all of that merchandise to a new vendor owned by someone else. It was pleasent. I could have kept using it (after all I've been a Master Merchant for months) but I wouldn't have felt right doing it even though so many other people are doing it.

Doc, I am curious how this actually works - are you saying that a player is unable to give up Novice Merchant unless he deactivates all his vendors?

Dang, here all along I thought the fuss was with people that were dropping the class entirely and yet keeping the vendors. Come to find out anybody that keeps their vendors are actually still merchants, but just not 1337 enough by Yolner's (et.al.) standards to deserve the vendors they earned the right to place.

Wow. This gets better every day. No offense to the merchants who are enjoying their game and leaving other people alone, but a few bad apples are giving the Merchant class a real bad name.

Crying for nerfs are going to get this class destroyed from within. I have seen it happen - and honestly if it happens here I will be the wookiee in the corner rolling on the ground, laughing my furry butt off. That anybody could cry to have their own class, their own brothers, nerfedin any manner is ... shocking. You guys don't get it - they never stop at nerfing the stuff you asked for ... they do a total class 'rebalancing' and you end up walking away looking like the goat se guy.
