I have been happily selling armor from my own shop which I share with my partner and a business manager (alt) we hired. I try to keep my prices reasonable and even on the low side for most thing. I hand build all my armor because... novel concept... I enjoy crafting and do it more for that and the interaction with people than to amass a massive fortune in pixelated money.

Anyway, I get a tell out of the blue from someone asking me to sell them composite in bulk for a wholesale price. I ask if they are outfitting a PA or somesuch (in which case I would have worked out some sort of PA discount/deal by armor) and get the response that the person is intending to resell. I tell him I price my stuff pretty reasonably even cheaply in some cases (though I do let Composite sales subsidise the other armors) and I wasn't interested in selling them in bulk wholesale. The person then goes on to tell me how stupid I am for not wanting to grind up suits of armor for him to sell, selling them to him at below the prices I sell in my shop on my own. Ummmm... okay? *blinkblink* He tells me I should be selling wholesale to him in order to make more money than I am. Ummm.... okay? *blinkblink* Can someone do the math for me?

selling in bulk at a discount can be good for bisness to see how i will use RL examples Sony sells it products to mass merchants ie Wal-Mart they make instant sales and profit if they sold through Sony only stores they would have to wait for sales to make profit. granted they make less per unit by selling to another company yet they sell more units than they could otherwise. and you dont have to sell yourself short by doing this with a company like walmart after overhead (paying for product and all costs associated with the bissness ) the profit margin is less than 4% so if you were to discount a bulk sale by no more than 5% to 6% you would be makeing money on the sale and he would be able to make a profit also if you swithced to selling through a merchant only you would maximis your profit by not having th overhead of runnin a vendor.

I am well aware of how it works in big business. BUT, if you want to look at expenses... To be able to do a mass run of armor, for example, you have to have several factories set up to run the armor, you cannot keep up with large orders if you hand build. Right now I have 4 wearables factories and an equipment factory I share with a few people (but I pay all the costs on). So, if I wanted to run composite, for example, through a factory, I would need to increase the number of factories I run because not only would I have layers and segments to run which -require- a factory, but I would also then need to run armor pieces through the factory, 9 pieces in all, mind you. Also, buying quality resources in the bulk needed for factory runs of suits raises their prices dramatically. Also, since if I were to be taking up the rest of my lots in factories, I would either have to buy -all- of my non-creature resources (my partner and I mine most now) or get additional accounts (spending more of the real life money I don't have much of right now).

Yes, my ROI per piece of armor would -possibly- increase after months and months of this equasion, but only if my wholesale price was about what my current price is because my current prices (except composite) are pretty low in comparison with most armorsmiths because I don't care that much about getting a huge ROI (pixel money... oooo.. how much of that can I amass?... sarcasm aside, I really don't care about my character having millions other than it makes it possible to buy some resources I couldn't before...).

So, this guy with the proposition wanted me to sell my armor for even cheaper than what I am (lowering my ROI on them), increase my production (increasing my costs for factories and resources), and presumably sell only to him... and was dissing me for wanting to -enjoy- the craft and actually spend time making armor and interacting with those who wear armor. To me, that doesn't add up at all. But, it wasn't that he offered it that bothered me, really, but that he was calling me stupid for not taking him up o his offer when I explained I was happy -hand building- armor and selling it for low prices to people I mostly interact with.

Adendum: my partner (real life significant other) and I share the RL costs of running an extra account who is our business manager (merchant master now) to handle our resource selling, my armor, and some of my partner's architect stuff.

If you get a customer that can't understand the word "NO" when used in a sentence, all you have to do is simplify the sentence untill he understands.

1. Customer: Do you make houses?

2. Me: No I don't make houses anymore, I like couches better.

3. Customer: How much for a house?

4. Me: Sorry I don't make houses anymore.

5. Customer: Make me a house.

6. Me: I don't make houses anymore.

7. Customer: just do it this once.

8. Me: I don't make houses.

9. Customer: What if I paid you?

10. Me: I don't make houses.

11. Customer: (no responce)

12. Me: /ignore

It is that simple, if you shorten the sentence or repeat a very easy sentence over again (See> line 8 and 10) the "NO" changed will recognize the word and look for a different victim.

while i was smuggling i got a tell from somebody to slice their comp armor set.

/me i ran out of AUKs about an hour ago, i was on my way to a vendor to buy more if you wanna wait 10 minutes

/dork whatever

/me *runs to buy AUKs*

/dork where are you going

/me x waypoint

/dork shows up at waypoint and asks if my muon gold is any good

/me all muon is the exact same, my factory run should be finished now, i can go get you some crates for 6k if you want

/dork whatever can you slice my armor?

/me *slicing disclaimer*

/dork after getting ok slices i want muon

/me i dont have any on me and i dont have a vendor, you will have to wait or check other vendors *mind you im standing next to a smuggler vendor*

/dork i dont wanna run all over the place trying to find it can you just give me some?

/me i dont give anything away, i need money too. how badly do you need the muon and how much do you want? *keep in mind i already said i charged 6k a crate*

/dork im all out and i have to have it to put my armor on. i'll pay whatever you want

/me *checks smuggler vendor im next to and see muon for 4k a crate!*

/me i'll get you some for 10k a crate since its a rush order

/dork yeah whatever i need 2 crates

/me *buy 2 crates from vendor*

/me you are so in luck, i forgot i had 2 crates in my backpack the whole time, that will be 20k for both

/dork ok, i just need it. i should master smuggler so i dont have to keep paying these outragous prices.

/me *collects a 12k profit*

i couldn't belive that this guy was standing next to a vendor that was titled "spice and slice" and asked me for muon. i made 12k off the muon, still had my factory run to sell on the bazaar, and got 27k for the slicing. the idiocy of some people amazes me!

You should have told him to wait a minute and put a scout blaster on the vendor for 500k.

Moron wouldn't know the difference.

First of all, I want to say that this thread is great! Keep up the stories! I have one too, however, this didn't happen to me but rather one of our citizens.I am an arch/merchant/politician and I have experienced my share of demanding/unreasonable/rude customers, but none of them compare to this little tale. Sorry, I'm paraphrasing here:

  1. Citizen is a WS, and is standing in his shop when a customer comes in. Customer is decked out in full composite, carrying a T21 and - get this - sporting a Novice Marksman tag.
  2. Customer checks the vendor for a few minutes, then pipes up asking our WS where all the "good" guns are. WS asks what he means by "good", and customer replies that he wants an "uber" gun and it needs to be "spliced".
  3. WS tells customer that the T21 is about as uber as you can get as far as rifles go, and why is he using one when he is a Novice Marksman and obviously doesn't have the skill? Shouldn't he be using something more appropriate to his abilities?
  4. Customer ignores the question and repeats his request foran "uber" gun that is "spliced" and asks why aren't there any on the vendor.
  5. WS follows suit and repeats his question about the T21 and adds a question about how the customer got all the money to buy these things as a Novice Marksman.
  6. Customer replies "Oh, I got all the credits on ebay. I want the guns because they look cool and I bought the composite yesterday because I saw someone in a starport wearing it and they told me I had to have it if I wanted to be good" (I suspect he used the term "1337" as opposed to "good" but I wasn't in on the actual conversation so I can't say for sure).
  7. WS asks customer how long he's been in the game. Customer replies "3 days".
  8. Customer asks again... so where can I get "uber spliced" guns?
  9. WS walks away...

Personally, I find running my vendors to be the most hassle-free way to make large sums of money. Maybe because I don't craft what I sell, they figure I have what I have and that's it. But the money rolls in either way.

That's the most fun thing about being a merchant, in my opinion. Log in after being asleep or working 10 hours and have a long list of "vendor sale completed" emails.

I'm a capitalist at heart. Merchant has been the perfect money maker for me.

Add in a combat profession to placate my inner gun freak and some scout to stock the vendor, Nirvana achieved.

I have yet to open a shop, but after reading this, I'm almost not looking forward to it! I am just really, really sick of some people...
Today I was in a few different starports /shouting to train people for Apprenticeship points. Only trained one person. However, ten people did send me a tell asking me to make stuff for them. Dude! I'm advertising TRAINING here, not selling my wares. One chick even asked if she supplied the 600 units of hide, if I would make her a merchant tent for free. I mean, come on, people!

I feel for you. I sell resources between 1.5 and 2.5 cpu for minerals, gas, and power. Organics and premium extracteds are higher.

I can keep the stock, but it's a part time job finding it.

Works out well in the end, though.

Rude customers happen, screw them.

Jaxx wrote:

Here's one, not really a customer, BUT competitors.

1. I have an email asking me how come I am able to sell all my resources between 2 and 4cr/u and STILL keep stock on hand and in the vendors. Obviously I am exploiting he goes on. Cause he has sat in my house watching all the customers I have come in and out over a few hour period. If he has his prices that low, he is sold out really fast.

2. Competitor sits in my shop while I am at work during day for two days, spamming EVERYONE that comes into my shop with his shop waypoint and telling people that I am rude to my customers. I actually recieved over a dozen emails about this from long standing customers.

I love it when people tell me that.

Because there's a chance it's true.

You see, I just go and check, and if it is true I buy them out and sell it at my original price.

OMFG this thread is hilarious...one of the best I've read in awhile

I just got referred to this thread cause I started a similar one elsewhere venting about the stupidity of people this week. I swear the local looney bin musta opened it's doors and let all the goofballs out for a week-long pass.

I had an unusually funny one just yesterday...

Customer: Hi do you sell vks?

(I have my master WS title up now)

Me: Yes I've got some kick@ss ones on my vendor, I'll send you the wp

bout 15min later...

Customer: Hey jack@ss there aren't any vks on there!

(no joke, can you believe this guy?)

Me: Yes there are, I had 100 of them on there awhile ago and they havent' come close to selling out

Customer: I just checked every vendor and there's none there jack@ss

so I walk next door into my shop to look, by this time the guy has already left for theed and he's sending me tells...naturally, I look and there's still 40 of em left, plenty with high slices...I know at this point he's a noob who doesn't know about the "next items" button so I decide to have some fun with it

Me: Hey jack@ss I see 40 of em on the vendor, what's your problem?

Customer: I checked every vendor and I'm telling you they aren't there

Me: I'm looking at them now...did you bother to hit the next button?

*silence* ...by this time I'm guessing he's driving back so I'm adding him to the ban list of my shop

...5min later he's on my front porch

Customer: hey how bout you let me in?

Me: no

Customer: Come on I have money to spend...

Me: ...but I thought I was a jack@ss? I guess you should have waited to make sure the jack@ss wasn't you before running off at the mouth huh?

*silence* ...but he's still standing on my porch staring at the closed door

Customer: I'm a customer man...let me in

Me: No, you're a noob who calls others jack@sses out of your own stupidity...the lesson today is learn to act your age and you might actually get what you want. Go find yourself another armor and weapons vendor...you're money is no good here.

Customer: oh sure, leave it to an imp to be an @ss. (as if this whole issue was somehow my fault...ROFL)

I mean come on...I can understand not knowing how to work the vendor...but to open up a dialog with profanity, over your own stupidity...that just takes the cake.

What is it about players that they STILL think crafters exist for the sole purpose to supply them personally? Haven't they figured out by now that for every 1 player who wants personal service there are at least 50 more who are content buying whatever is on the vendor? I've started adding alot of people to my ban list out of sheer principle. The level of stupidity and greed in this game is starting to reach all-time record levels. The best part is I'm one of the last AS's on my server to have any GOOD beryllius copper left and I've been busting out sliced 80% base armor so little by little more and more people are gravitating to my shop. I can't help but laugh when these @sshats run off at the mouth thinking they don't need me...and then days and weeks later they show up at my shop cause they can't find any other quality vendors that are stocked...and they can't figure out why I won't let them in

I hope the devs keep the resources away for a few more months...I'm well stocked and I LOVE watching these fools grovel over their own stupidity

I'm still laughing about this one. (c = customer, m = me)

c: hi

m: ehllo

c: could you make me some imp armor

m: armorsmiths can't make factional armor, you have to buy it with faction points, hopefully this will change sometime in the near future

c: can you buff

m: you're kindding, right?

c: i would like you to make composit armor without the foot and hand

m: sure i can do that, what kind of price are you looking for ?

c: about 10k hole set

m: i'll get right on that, wait for my tell
