Seems SOE can keep me as their customer and I wont cancel my pre-orders of JtL :-)

I kinda felt all the time that they were unable to push the 110 item limit through..

but you never know with SOE..

I'm very happy.

As to a few issues that have been raised.

1. Where will I put the balance of 12 vendors if I'm only using 1?

Easy, create a party room! Give them clothes, etc.. and set it up like a cocktail party. Very swanky indeed! I'm looking forward to placing my 6 shiny new vendors.

2. On nos! Now the big bad merchant man will put little_guy_001 out of business!

Hardly. Big bad merchant can still only list 3600 items total, so unless they handicap themselves by spreading selection incredibly thin, they can't list much in 12 different places. Add on top of that, that people could, until now, exploit the system and use vendors without using the skill points, that many of the "little guys" were probably in business illegally. Those that were'nt illegal already know how to run their business, or they'll have to learn. Or, they'll have to spend some skill points to work up to Merchant if they feel that its necessary to compete.

Making a change like this gives a little meaning to the Merchants as a profession. now, given that, would I like to see the item limits tied to the skill tree, as opposed to the number of merchants initialized? Yes, I certainly would. I think that there are some people that would work up the merchant tree to get the number of items, while not really needing the number of merchants involved. If part of the impetus behing this is to reduce the database size, wouldn't it make sense to avoid having to deal with vendors that are only holding 1 item so that the merchant can get the max number of items sellable on another vendor? There will be some people that have 11 extra vendors, and thats got to be unnecessary database strain.

All in all, I'm pleased as punch with this. I'm a Master Architect, and will be a 4-4-4-4 merchant by the time I get home. Change was necessary. No one *likes* change. But it does equalize the game a little.

750 Items on 3 vendors with Novice Merchant is something I can live with. Its still painful using the skill points to upgrade from Artisan Business 3 but compared to the original plan this is a fair compromise that meets the community half way. Its nice to know our concerns were actually listened to for once.

Sad....sad...sad.....the joyious cries have started and most of the sheep follow.....

Now, please allow me to explain.

1.) Vendor Limits - whooptido...whatever....going to have to live with it. No I don't advocate unlimited, but I do support at LEAST 500 spots (50 Comp suits is 450 spots) per vendor.

2.) More Vendors - More shops on almost all planets. So much for levelling the playing field. You though lot trades are bad now....

3.) More Vendors - Name recognition is going to draw people to their shops. So much for levelling the playing field.

4.) Help the database - still not fixing the vendor maintenance bug. More vendors in more houses across the planets means more lag and more data the DB is going to have to store (unless they leave an empty house).

People see this whole situation turn around now as a good thing without truly thinking about the need for why? Empty vendors cluttering the planet map? FIX THE VENDOR MAINTENANCE BUG! Using them as storage? ALLOW HIGHER STACK LEVELS! Even the playing field for new crafters? GIVE THEM 1000 STAT RESOURCES THEN! Better idea...don't have them learn the ropes..just make them masters NOW.

Sheep....this is what they have been working instead of the profession fixes, combat balance, BUG FIXES that have been around since BETA....and people are happy....

I apologize for such a negative response....but you have to understand..I have been here since beta. Pretty much done this and that, and see a lot of issues that are preventing this game from being GREAT. Instead of working on the CORE of what is going to make this game great, they are working on placating and obfuscating. So much potential in this game...

Ok first, I want to be clear, this is much much better then what was proposed before. However....

At the same time, empty vendors are coming off the global map. Empty vendors will actually dissapear eventually. These are all good changes, designed at making the hsopping experiance much better for everybody.

Yet from that point of view, they just undid everything they did. Your literally DOUBLING the amount of vendors that people can legally have. Sure they may hold less, yet the overhead map (with thevendor names, not the world one,) is going to be just as cluttered if not worse then before.

There is a fine line between a cluttered vendor where things are hard to find and not. This is the whole point of the filter features on the left. Nobody wants to filter through 5 pages of stuff, but nobody wants to look through 5 different vendors just to dress their character either.

People say now that with more vendors you can open a second location, I don't get that. Let's say you stock 700 items at your current location, that's your current stock. You can do that with 3 vendors now. With 6 or 7 vendors, you can still keep those 3 then put another 3 at the other spot.

I'm looking at this not from just a Merchant / crafter standpoint, I'm looking at it from a shopping and clutter standpoint.

Keep managent increasing you number of vendors, ending up with 7 at Master Merchant. Make the efficiency line increase how much each vendor can hold. The end result is we get 500 on each vendor, just less vendors. We get the same amooun of items, shoppers get less vendors, and the overhead map is less cluttered.

Understandable. But they can't fix everything at once. Its alot like being in debt. They owe many debtors (us, the players) alot of money (re: fixes to bugs and progressive content). The only way out of debt is to focus on one thing to pay off (fix) and to string the others along on minimum payments (information, feedback, and communication, letting us know that they have it in their sights). Fix things one at a time, and once something is fixed, then move on to the next item. And fixing small things, or things that have obvious solutions, is always better to fix than to fix nothing at all.

This is better, but still not ideal.

How are most decent malls going to be able to effectively double the amount of vendors they have without having space issues within the building itself?

Not to mention the fact that maintaining 12 vendors is going to be a bit of a nightmare in itself. Keep the number of vendors at 6 and double the item totals for them (from the latest figures).

Actually, I will like being able to have 12 vendors. I usually only have a max of 1500 items for sale anyway, this will allow me to open a second shop!

I don't agree with these changes primarily for exactly this reason. They are going to put an even bigger hurt on the little guy. More of the big guys will open a new shop near the little guy and take away the small amount of business he does get.

I am a little guy. I max out at about 100-250k in sales per day. I work very hard for this amount in sales. I craft every day. I gather resources so I can get a BE to make mods for my clothes. I stock my vendors. I spend a great deal of time adverising. I want to be one of the big names in tailoring. If the little guys complain after I start taking thier sales, then they should work harder to compete. Try to tell a successful real life business that they should be looking out for the little guy and curbing their success to make room for them. They'll laugh in your face.
