If I've collected the info correctly, simply having the vendors give you xp, peopleusing them gives you a bit more (but on a 15minute timer). An entry fee I believe also gives you xp, which is why you see a lot of tents with a 1credit entry fee.

Once upon a time there was a tissue that BEs could create called Chiagra..
it was a bonus to business acumen...
long long time ago this was..how I miss those days..
It was removed from game along with the mod,
so even if you stumble acrost any clothing that may have it,
it's well like grenade ass/exp..there but pointless.
{I my self still have a shirt and headwrap with it..talk about packratting old clothes}

The in-game knowledge base (article #7757) says:
Merchant experience is gained through use of merchant abilities. Merchant experience is awarded for each of the following:
- When someone pays to enter a structure with an access fee.
- When someone checks your vendor, but only once every 10 minutes.
- Every time maintenance is deducted from a vendor. This amount is doubled if your vendor's maintenance is fully paid.
The exact amount of experience granted is based on a couple specifics that should be discovered through general game play.
The awarding of merchant experience is currently working as designed.
However, my own testing shows this:
Vendor with maintenance: 150xp per hour.
Vendor without maintenance: 50xp per hour.
Furthermore, your vendor must be loaded into the world before it will cough up it's xp but it will catch up on all that it missed when it does.
Doc wrote an excellent guide to the profession that's stickied at the top of the forum and it will answer an awful lot of questions you might have.

Well been a while since I did Master Merchant. But it is one of the slowest in the game besides politician to Master. Here is what I did to get exp.
Place as many vendors are your level allows. The more vendors the more XP.
Also viewing of a vendor gives a small amount (but it is only every 15 minutes and for all vendors in the area that you own if I remember right.
So you can have two vendors up and one is viewed then have to wait 15 minutes before the next viewing. Can not just view the other one.)
I am not sure but don't think you get any XP for the actual sales but more from the viewing of the vendor.
But best way would to read the Merchant FAQ. As I said been a long time since I Mastered the Merchant profession and there have been some changes to it all.

ya the fastest way is to get as many vendors as you can with management. Then go for barking and adds a little more xp everytime they bark. Also have mat. on them. With mat. on them your get 150 an hour without only 50 an hour. Once you get management up all the way, i get about 25k to 35k a day. i have been at it about a week to a week and a half. i am currently at 2,4,2,4. I also went after effecency before barking because i want the cheaper prices for vendors mat. only 5 credit difference but hey i dotn got alot of money atm.
The only problem i have ran into i think maybe a bug unless someone tells me different but on effciency 4 i am suppose to get 20% knocked off of structure management but i started at 50 and i am still at 50. Anyone have any ideas with about this.

Go up the branch that gets you the most merchants first. It's really slow to start, but once you get it up there and get more dummy merchants placed, it goes so much faster, especially if you have people checking them. That first half, though, is just so dang frustratingly slow.
To get your discount, add a credit (or credits, it only takes 1 cred) to the structure you want to get the discount on. It'll remain on there until a non-Master Merchant adds money, and then you have to add money again. This goes for buildings, factories and harvs.

By placing items you get xp and the selling of them also givex xp.
Actually this has not been true for quite a long time.
Originally you did, but it was changed around the time the hologrind really started gearing up.
You only get Merchant xp from:
- Vendors in the world per hour. (150xp with maintenance, 50xp without)
- Vendor views per player per 10 minutes. (50xp)
- Access fees per player per 10 minutes (and only to the owner). (50xp I think)

Damn, i did mine to master in 2 weeks (10 Days)only because i forgot to train all the time and capped xp alot, i put up as many vendors as i could, stocked the guilds cantina with drinks and cheap low end stuff (made wooden stafs and survival knives for the smugglers in the guild to slice) and had guildies run by and browse whenever they passed byone of my vendors, thats when we had 20 ppl, i now get 40k merchant xpa day, my main complaint now is capping before i can get to the village to trade xp, its as easy as that

You and me both.

If I keep my vendors stocked, I cap every 24 hours.
If I stay in the village to cash in xp my vendor stock drops and I don't cap nearly as often.
It's a no-win situation and one of my biggest complaints.
The XP caps were put in before the FS skills came along and now they need to be raised.

I was wondering why I see you there all the time when I'm grinding Crafting
Yeah, only reason I don't notice is beacuse I tend to cap Medical a lot faster then Merchant so I just empty Merchant out after I've buffed a ton of guildmates or something. But if I haven't logged in for a day and a half I see a nice 80k Merchant xp just sitting there, so its highly annoying then.
While we're at it, can we raise Medical too? 1.5 x highest box is pretty dumb.
